(PIT/ARI) - Kessel, Birks, 2021 4th for Galchenyuk, Joseph
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rangersandislesfan</b></div><div>Lol 13 votes for fair deal, and the same amount of votes for Arizona as Pittsburgh.</div></div>
Haha. Usually the votes favor the team that got the best player. Remember the Subban to NJD trade? When you look at the big picture the team that got the better player doesn't always win the trade. There are more factors to consider than just stats. And I think Galchenyuk will crush it in PIT. Kessel will probably take a big step back in point production.

(TOR/CAR) - Marleau, 2020 conditional 1st round pick, 2020 7th round pick for 2020 6th round pick
Umm...GM Dumbass has traded every 1st Round pick he's owned, in 2015 he traded down in the draft, 2018 he did the same trick again by trading down in the Draft, now this year he's traded 2019 and 2020 1st Round picks for 2 years of Muzzin and to rid himself of Marleau. Wow.... I'm guessing Carolina will be buying out Marleau's contract than he'll sign in SJS for 1 million.
Draft Smaft lives again in Toronto!

Wooooow... Now THAT is a huge one-sided trade, ladies & gentleman! Im not gonna be surprised if Marlaeu is gonna score 20-25 goals this season. I get that Toronto need a cap space, but a 1st round pick? Really, Dubas?
Big win for Carolina, no question

(SJS/PHI) - Braun for 2019 2nd, 2020 3rd round picks
I'm saying the Sharks won it, but barely. Really, only because SJ was in a TOUGH spot and Fletcher definitely helped them out with the #41 pick this year. PHI has the cap to take him for 1 year...and really they'll just let him go next year...or flip him @ the TDL if for some reason they don't play well next year. It allows for 2 vets to roll of the books each of the next 2 years giving room to sign other d prospects. He's a pretty good Dman. Just because he doesn't score goals doesn't mean he he can't eat up 20 min a game.

(PIT/CHI) - Määttä for Kahun & 2019 5th round pick
A lot of Pens fans are bi-polar (not all of course).
When I was suggesting Lehkonen or Hudon + 2nd for Maata 3 months ago, I was crazy because he was "a top 3 defenceman worth a top 6 foward".
Now, they are just happy to clear cap space...

I kno how all the Hockey geniuses on here crush Maatta bc of his speed only but the kid is a really good D-man and is def a top 4 type.
Pros on Maatta - Very good break out pass / very good in own zone / has some offensive ability / always in good position / good PK guy / plays #2 PP
cons Maatta - He is slow / needs to be more physical

While it's sad to see Olli go, the Pens got the better value in the trade. They managed to free up a good bit of cap space, and got a young, scoring winger with lots of upside. #ThankYouOlli for your time as a Penguin, and good luck in Chicago.

Chicago Blackhawks signed Collin Delia (3 Years / $1,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Three years seems like a lot for a guy who hasn't even played 20 NHL games.
Obviously it's a great deal if he's even a league average backup, but it seems silly is all.</div></div>
I agree that it feels weird, but at the end of the day, the extra years at $1M carry some very good potential upside, with almost no risk. You can burry up to $950k in the AHL, so if it doesn't pan out, he's on a one way deal where he gets too much cash, but he isn't hurting the cap.
If he is a better than average back up, or even a starter before the end, it's a ton of flexibility in the salary cap having only $1M committed to a goalie, so I like the deal overall.
It seems to be getting harder and harder to get good value deals on young players who are stars, so looking for ways to manage the future cap by spending cash without typing up a ton of cap space is going to become an important tool for a lot of GMs.
Finding guys who could be NHL calibre help going forward for $1M is ideal for cap strapped teams, so signing those guys who are probably happy to just have a 1-way deal for an extra couple of years is a great way to reward a good young player (even if he doesn't make it he gets paid significantly more than a 2-way deal), while potentially having an absolute steal on your roster if they develop well.
