A tavares rental and liljegren is not even close to bridging that gap between 2 and 23. Chicagos not going to trade out of that pick, theyre going to take a foundational player for their rebuild.

Bringing the US to Ottawa
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>Part of it would be because it's hard for Ottawa to attract top players. Plus cap rising or not, just means players ask for a bit more of the pie. You need guys really contributing on ELC's in order to compete. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in Z.... But the 7th overall pick would just be overkill.</div></div>
Not wrong. Could just get Iginla at #7 potentially who would fit in so nicely with our group!

I really want to hear your thought process behind that trade. How could you possibly believe CHI would give up their 2nd overall pick? CHI wouldn't even give positive value for Tavares, let alone trade back 21 picks. And Lily is worth a 3rd round pick, at best. Are you ok? Are you being held at gunpoint?

Bringing the US to Ottawa
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>Ottawa wouldn't make that deal ever. I think they'd do it with the Bos 1st, not 7th overall. Even if Zegras pans out, in 2 years he'll want a ton of money. Moving on from that 7th overall pick means you don't have that prospect to help on an ELC in the future. Any one of Parekh, Catton, Iginla, Yakemchuk, or Dickenson would just be too valuable to trade for a center coming off a serious injury, and a poor season, with only 2 years left on his deal. The Bos pick plus Jarventie.... I'd go there but anymore than that would be too risky. Our prospect cupboard just isn't deep enough to be able to take another swing like that. Maybe offer Norris straight up....</div></div>
This wasn't meant to be realistic, it's just a fun little idea to bring in USA players to keep Brady happy.
Zegras was injured last year but he's already back playing with Team USA right now so obviously he's good to go. Our whole core in this case is like 24 years old, we're not as desperate for prospects as people seem, it's just ours blossomed quickly and made the team like Pinto, Ridly, Sanderson etc. We still have 3 picks in the top 40 and snagged Connelly, Emery and Surin who are all better prospects than Kleven/Jarventie imo so our prospect pool still gets a nice little injection of talent. Connelly and Surin would replace Joseph and Giroux, and Emery would replace one of the righties.
Salary cap is raising a lot too every season it seems like so I don't see why we wouldn't be able to afford to fit players etc.

Big Shift 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>I hear ya, his game improved in the AHL. He's still a legit puck-moving defenseman, but agree totally he has work to be done on the defensive side of the puck. Was more a project for Anaheim for a 6th round pick. But I can see your point but he wouldn't be a bad gamble for a 6th round pick.... I mean if I said a 2nd rounder or something? Okay call me nuts I will own that, but I figured a 6th rounder for a team that showed interest in him before. I didn't however, watch the preseason game you were talking about lol</div></div>
I honestly think you guys should throw him on RW next season and see what happens, as I don't think he'll ever be a NHL quality RHD.
Only reason we claimed him was to let Jamie Drysdale hear the branch creak over his contract extension.

Orlov has one year. Jarvis and Carolina might go the bridge route which would be expensive in 2 years but can keep a deep team going.

What does Necas sign for? Orlov makes almost 8 million, if Necas comes at 6 million that's 13.75 which puts them in an even tighter cap situation. I do like the deal however

Ottawa declines lol. Batherson is worth way more than two 2nds. I also wouldn't trade the #7th pick but I could live with it if Marner is the prize.
Also our defense and 4th line are terrible so Korpi and Forsy are going to be awful again.

Young forward
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riddick19</b></div><div>This is for the 25-26 season.... So this is based on Ottawa ****ting the bed again next season and Brady asking for a trade.... Ottawa if they move Brady, means they are basically doing a 2nd rebuild albeit not a total rebuild. Anderson would be off the table.... Do remember Ottawa isn't going to trade Brady down the road to one of our biggest rivals for what would appear fair trade. Ottawa will want Mtl to overpay if we have to battle Tkachuk 4 times a season and then possibly in the playoff down the road.
It would have to be more along the lines of Guhle, 25 1st, CGY 25 1st, and likely Mesar.... That might get a deal done if Brady asks for a trade. I know it sounds like a lot but Ottawa won't be giving Brady for what fans think is "fair"... Could you imagine the bidding war for the guy? PPG power forward who fights with anyone, always top 5 in hits, and shots... leadership.... Teams would be lining up around the block for him.</div></div>
Ohh man I didn't see it was 25-26 lol. I'd imagine teams like Buffalo, Detroit, Columbus, St Louis, NJD etc would all offer and best any Montreal trade anyway lol.

Bonehead Brad isn't the Flames GM anymore so no they won't be trading a top 10 1st to move Huberdeau. Especially not since he's started showing signs of life the last few months.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Assuming that Robin Lehner stays on the LTIR list, the Golden Knights have about $6.5 million to allot among 4 roster slots. (Already under contract for next season: ten forwards, $45 million; seven defensemen, $30.2 million: two goalies, $5.7 million.) They can afford to give their one important RFA (Pavel Dorofeyev) a significant raise and fill the other three forward openings with $1 million AAV guys without having to dump a cheap young defenseman with term who has sufficient quality to play #1 RD for you.</div></div>
I second this, but I heard a rumour that Lehner will be ready to play next season. Complicates things a bit but not where they have to give away cheap young players on good deals for.

I don't think CGY is going to give up the pick and retain money. I'd love to get out from under that contract, but that isn't happening.
Huberdeau had a decent stretch where he looked like his old self, but he still didn't have enough support offensively, especially on the PP. That's why Duclair is likely going to be a Flame next year.

Big Offseason Shake Up
Ottawa says no. I'm sorry but some 3rd liners, a late first and a mid first in a weak class is just not getting it done. Bonk is the only player of value to us in that trade. While Frost is great he'd be behind Pinto and Timmy and I'd still rather have Greig over him. Brink doesn't do anything for us.
Take out Frost + Brink and include Michkov and we'll talk.

Chychrun was traded for a 1st and two 2nds (one of which couldve been upgraded to a 1st)
This trade is basically equating JEE to either three 1sts and two 2nds or four 1sts and a 2nd.
Whether it's legitimate or not, either way thats much too rich to even consider.
