Assuming that Robin Lehner stays on the LTIR list, the Golden Knights have about $6.5 million to allot among 4 roster slots. (Already under contract for next season: ten forwards, $45 million; seven defensemen, $30.2 million: two goalies, $5.7 million.) They can afford to give their one important RFA (Pavel Dorofeyev) a significant raise and fill the other three forward openings with $1 million AAV guys without having to dump a cheap young defenseman with term who has sufficient quality to play #1 RD for you.

I second this, but I heard a rumour that Lehner will be ready to play next season. Complicates things a bit but not where they have to give away cheap young players on good deals for.

No that’s just brutal stupidity to give up a top 10 pick and still retain nearly a quarter of his salary to play for someone else.

I’d rather just use that contract to hit the cap floor and ride it out.

I don't think CGY is going to give up the pick and retain money. I'd love to get out from under that contract, but that isn't happening.

Huberdeau had a decent stretch where he looked like his old self, but he still didn't have enough support offensively, especially on the PP. That's why Duclair is likely going to be a Flame next year.

Actually the Knights have something closer to $2M with 10 forwards 7 defenseman and 2 goalies signed..... Stone comes off LTIR...plus Doro has arbitration rights and will definitely get a sizeable raise

All good just throwing it out there.... But to consider this, Philly wanted Tyler Boucher 10th overall to take Mathieu Joseph last summer who had 3 years at $2.95M as payment to take the cap hit. Which is why I was throiwing it out there. It';s a steep price for sure, and a very good draft especia;lly if you're looking for defenseman. But to get out from $8M for 7 years.....Yopu'd have to give up siomething very valuable. But just looking for opinions thanks guys smile

Yeah I heard that as well, he's in bankrupcy so he needs to secure another contract to cover his losses and obviously maintain his lifestyle.... So sitting on LTIR isn't what is best for Lehner and I suspect he does what's best for Lehner before what's best for Vegas. If he does come off LTIR, Vegas will be over the cap ceiling as soon as the summer starts. If that's the case? Everyone will be twisting Vegas over a barrell knowing Vegas has to be cap compliant so they could be in a tough spot.

Wrong. Add them up . . . the figure I gave earlier for the forwards includes Stone's $9.5 million. The cap space is $6.5 million and Dorofeyev won't consume more than $3 million of it.

I can understand the sentiment but its not so desperate that we’re at the point of giving away potential franchise savers just to get rid of a mistake.

The team desperately needs a top 4 defenceman that could carry us into the future which in my opinion should be either Carter Yakemchuk or Zayne Perekh who are likely going to be available at that pick.

Makes more sense to hold onto Huberdeau and try to revive him so he can be traded for less when the cap jumps even higher soon.

Bonehead Brad isn't the Flames GM anymore so no they won't be trading a top 10 1st to move Huberdeau. Especially not since he's started showing signs of life the last few months.

Awesome.... I agree I posted it because I mentioned above that Briere wanted Boucher who was a #10 overall pick from us to take on 3 years of Mathieu Joseph at $2.95M.... Ottawa balked at it, which I agree because if fans wouldn't be fine with sending a top 10 overall pick to get rid of $2.95M.... I was curious if $8M would be enough....Obviously not and I have to agree I don't think I would make the move either.

Use it to hit the cap floor and ride it out? You believe Calgary is going to tear it down and rebuild?

Hey who else are they going to give up? I agree with everything about Whitecloud, Vegas in my mind has the best core of defense in the league. But truth is, Vegas will be held over a barrell if Lehner comes back which makes sense. He took an entire season off, is 32 and his career is starting the back 9. He is in bankrupcy and Vegas fans should Lehner will put Lehner first. He will want to play to earn another contract. If this happens? Teams won't be taking the guys they want to ship out. As a Sens fan, some fans that follow other teams besides their own will know Ottawa ran into cap trouble and we couldn't sign one of our better centers... (Pinto) and no one was willing to take a Hamonic.... or Joseph... not unless Ottawa added a Ridley Grieg, or Tyler Boucher.... Vegas will likely suffer a simlar fate. However for a guy like Whitecloud, other teams will want him but the term might not be what they like if they think he might fall down the lineup. But I've seen him a ton I think her's worth his price and more. He was great alongside Chabot at the WHC 2 seasons ago, and Chabot needs a consistent partner he can trust. Whitecloud for me comes to mind. Hence why I proposed the trade.

Just saying though, Whitecloud, Hague, Dorofeyev, etc.... These are the guys other GM's are going to be pressing for. I think Vegas fans will really dislike the compensation that teams are asking for to take on cap....

Of course this teams nowhere near competitive and won’t be for atleast another 3-4 years
