Crazy Idea
Your title sums it up perfectly... This is not getting you Brandt Clarke.
I also doubt if Treliving would be willing to pay $3,5m for Talbot as a backup, who will be 37 before next season

I think Roy is looking for 5-6 years with >$5,5m AAV, but I definitely see big chances, that he is going to sign with the Leafs or also with his hometown DET.
I hope Rittich stays in LA - he was a phenomenal backup for the Kings this year

The contract for Roy seems about right, I just wonder wether he wants to go to Buffallo.
I'd rather see him sign with his hometown Detroit or heading to Toronto after this year

KINGS
I think Trotz will not accept that and he has been having an outrageous asking price for Saros.
Saros definitely is an elite goalie, but the asking price would be more justifiable, if he was top 3 in the NHL in all categories.
But, for example his SV% (.906) is tied 24th, his GAA (2,86) is tied 26th among all goalies that played >25 games. Eventually, he has the most wins, while starting 64 times in the regular season (as often as no other goalie), but especially his SV% and GAA just don't justify the high asking price in my opinion.
He is definitely worth a 1st + NHL ready prospect (like Pinelli) + Kaliyev type caliber + maybe another 4th round pick. But honestly, that should do it. He will also ask for an extension that will be in the Hellebuyk region after next year.
Ultimately, I think he won't be moved before next season, because i don't see any team being willing to overpay

Improve these
I don't see that 3 team deal happening:
- Ullmark reportedly doesn't want to go to LA / West Coast
- Although moving PLD's contract would require additional pieces or also a retention, I don't see the Kings retain $14m in total... Kings better give him the chance to play a full season with two decent wingers and after next season we can see, if things didn't improve. The Kings are not in the desparate need to trade him as of

Pretty fair offer for PLD and Kaliyev to be honest. I personally see PLD bounce back with the Kings, if they will play him in a line with 2 decent wingers. I'd prefer him to stay in LA

Kings back to the throne
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ecupirate07</b></div><div>Canes would just take a pick at that point. Neither if those guys are real roster threats</div></div>
Which pick would be realistic in your opinion?
Maybe Grundstrom and Laferriere are no roster threats but they are cheap options the Canes may need to get a decent roster with players like Jarvis, Necas, Teravainen and half of the defense being Free Agents and being in need of new deals

What Playoff Lines Should Be
Watching game 1 was a tough time to be honest, but I know the Kings will come prepared for game 2 and they will adjust. The Oilers have capitalized phenomenally well on the Kings mistakes, as they did also in the past years. Whether Kopi or Danault will be matched up against 97, both have to step up their game to reduce their chances to a minimum. Danault literally played his worst game in the Kings uniform, but he is surely aware of that, as well. I also wouldn't say that Talbot lost the game, it was definitely a matter of our first D-pair, Danault and Kopi. Nevertheless, I'd expect Talbot to be as intimidating as possible. If he can make some incredible saves, this can also be the turning point sometimes.
The biggest keys for me, besides matchups and individual performaces are discipline and to use the chances, that are there. The Oilers are 3/4 on their PP, while the Kings are 0/2. They gotta be more lethal on their on PP and stay out of the box. I disagreed with the first call against PLD but the penalty Moore took is exceptionally awful.
Arvy had a breakaway to make it 2:1, he had a wide open net on a beautiful pass by Kempe, but couldn't convert. They need to score on such good chances.
The Kings need to get their big guns started and I think they are absolutely aware of that and will be ready for game 2.

Well, but for that package it would be almost foolish not to take Marner. Maybe a third team could be interested in taking over part of his salary for a few prospects/picks to make it work for the cap space.
Marner is a heck of a player, that could boost the Kings goalscoring immediately

I'd rather re-sign Spence instead of giving DeMelo probably double the amount of what Spence would be getting for a few years.
Alss, I'd save some cap space for a decent winger to skate with PLD, maybe in a retention deal. We also better make sure to re-sign Arvidsson.
If Minnesota is ready to give up their second rounder, the Kings should ship out Kaliyev.

The trade that involved Moore was really a steal for the Kings, considering how well he developed.
Also, one of the 3rd rounders got the Kings Alex Laferriere, who was having a pretty solid first year with the Kings.

I think Roy is seriously considering a move to Detroit, if they are interested in him and if the Kings can't offer anything close to that.
I also see his value between $5,5m - $6m AAV for 5 or 6 years.
The Kings will have a hard time to keep him and unfortunately it's pretty likely that he won't stay in LA.
If he leaves, I would be happy for him, if it's his hometown.

Byfield is not going anywhere, especially not for that package...
Minten is a very good prospect, there is no doubt. but for that package LA just laughs and declines.
Even with the Kings a bridge deal at $4m AAV is rather unlikely. He is getting at least $1m - $1,5m more than that.

2024-25 Opening Night Roster
I think Kaliyev is going to be traded after that year. He has the potential, but couldn't really get started with the Kings. His numbers are actually still very solid for a player, that can perfoirm much better.
As much as I appreciate Lewis for his accomplishments with the Kings, I gotta say, he shouldn't be re-signed.
I would keep Spence, play the first full season with Clarke, not re-sign Roy and instead get a decent winger to skate with PLD. I would btw be very surprised if Arvy re-signs for the league minimum. This isn't going to happen

Clarke shouldn't be in the discussion for any trade. He is part of the future RD of the Kings. Spence btw gets more than 800k, you probably gotta double that amount to re-sign him. Roy is going to ask for something similiar to Gavrikovs AAV and I don't see the Kings pursuing Walker for their LD, that looks actually pretty fine without Walker to be fair.
Also, what happens with Saros after the season? The King would have no cap space here to re-sign him. He will easily ask for something between $8m to $9m after that year. And to give up so much for getting him for one year would be mad.
I think goalies often get overvalued.

This is way too much to give up for the Kings here. You’re throwing in 4 decent, young forwarders, Spence + a 1st? That’s awful for the Kings. They better just re-sign Spence and get Turcotte going. This trade would be just awful

To give up Clarke, Fiala, Turcotte and a 1st rounder for a goalie, that will ask for around $10m per season after one year is insane. That wouldn't make any sense whatsoever for the Kings

Thinking outside the box
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MadLin27</b></div><div>What are the chances the Kings re-sign Roy?</div></div>
I'd assume 50/50. But with an upcoming Byfield, Spence, Lizotte (probably Turcotte and a few other smaller) extensions, an unsolved Goalie situation and the need for a decent winger to skate in the third line with PLD, the chances are getting relatively slim. Clarke is ready to play his first full NHL season next year, so you'd have him to fill the gap.
I think Matt Roy deserves a bigger contract and there will be surely teams that will be ok to spend $5-6m, that the Kings simply cannot offer under the given circumstances

Ullmark doesn't want LA and the west coast,so this trade isn't happening.
The Kings shouldn't force a PLD trade either, as he has developed fairly good over the last few weeks.
I think they will do just fine with him in the next years, when he will continuously play with decent wingers.
