Culture Change
Just saying the fact that there are two sides that think opposite things, is usually a sign its a reasonable deal. so the fact two sides are so vehemently opposed, means there has to be some fairness. Most people think negotiations are trying to find a deal both are somehow magically 100% happy with. Bias will always interfere with that feeling ever existing. Most good deals leave both feeling a little uncomfortable with what they gave up. With your point about Kyrou going to be in same situation, it isn't the money they are trying to save, they just want someone that wants to be in CGY, and the reality is perhaps bringing in a Canadian, with a year to get him comfortable in his surroundings is probably a positive step. Less proven so he he is more attainable than Blues fans would like him to be. (keep in mind younger and less proven are the same just different semantics used for which side of the argument that you are on).

Flames Trades - OTT MIN MTL TOR
I think my favorite part are the people who state as a matter of fact that this team is not accepting an offer as if they were actually just offered these trades and if they are in the front office. LOL. Keep in mind that literally every one of these, unless its Brad Treliving, is wishful thinking, and they are all going to have some sort of element of "not gonna happen". I mean I did one where we traded for Malkin, I dont actually think thats gonna happen haha. I think that your right, I couldn't see Lehner sign for that, but I think that he will sign for not far off, he may end up being the best bang for your buck, IF he makes it to UFA. And if he leaves, when NYI could have him at a discounted price and lets him walk, I would just make sure homework is done as to why. As far as the MTL wouldn't take Brodie for 2x2, if not them, I believe that is a very reasonable market price for Brodie, and if not MTL, I think 2x2 would be easy to get for Brodie. I wouldn't but someone will, and I also think because of his cap friendly contract he will be attractive to teams, and he has good term. Very marketable asset. I dont like this scenerio at all, but as far as realism and modest take home for your trades, I think you did a good job on this one, and again I don't like the make up, but this could happen hypothetically

Fully agree that it would make no sense to retain more than your buyout would be. It is not worth a 7th round pick. On the flip side, you can't have it a bad deal for both CGY and VGK like you say. Obviously, VGK would jump at a Troy Brouwer on a 2.25M salary. Thats a good deal for Brouwer.
Unfortunately, I think they will have to do something creative though, because I think, regardless of what we want, the market sets the price, and a Hanafin is worth more than a Lindolm, and he will be making more than what is listed here, and unfortunately so will Jankowski. I don't think Kulak will get more than the 800K or so he made last year. He was great and probably deserves more, but again, from a negotiation standpoint, the Flames have 5/7 D not doing anywhere (unless a Stone has to be is traded for cap room), then you have a 6th D in Prout you pretty much already committed a spot to, and then there is a handful of flames farm club D that have to start getting and deserve NHL experience, I am not sure how much leverage Kulak has with this crowded blueline. He has got more playing time and his currently better than a few of those guys, but who has the higher ceiling? The Flames brass will give an opportunity to whoever they feel, through their own research and analytics, has the higher probable ceiling. If Stone is traded, they may give Kulak a little extra, but the Flames would be smart to sign him, before they trade away stone if they do, while they still have the leverage.

Flames go after O'Reilly
I dont think Buffalo or MTL would go for those, and I really hate parting with Jankowski, but overall Lindolm would be unreal for that line with MT moving to the top, and I actually really like the look of the line up. Smart, balanced. Well done.

Tavares talking with Hamonic
Agreed, however the purpose of these is to pipe dream, and what if Tavares DID sign, how would it work. But I agree, overall your better not to have all that money wrapped up in one player. Look at Edmonton with $27M tied up in three players; all forwards nonetheless, isn't what I would do, especially teams are continually proving the old 2-1-1 or 2-2 forward line breakdown, or even 3-1, is not as effective as having depth and 4 strong lines. Getting a $6M player like JVR I htink is well worth it, except for the LW part. The top 2 on the left side are locked down I think for a very long time. Hence maybe James Neal or trade (Simmonds?), but although Neal is over $2M more, you could llock him up longer and wouldn't cost anything. I think Neal is actually an exceptional option for Calgaary, especially now that Lindholm is there, then our right side looks pretty good.

Thread:
What do Hanifin and Lindholm sign for?
Hanafin's worth is probably closer to 5.5 and Lindolm 4.5. If he is asking 5, Treliving has a good record for negotiation contracts overall. Obviously some exceptions. But i think he can get him down. Dougies contract was over 5.5 and they are coming at similar ages and times, with very similar point totals at the time. I think Jankowski will be worth more, and worth locking him in long term even at a higher price. hes going to be a big time player in a couple years. Goof thought into this one.....I would say Tkachuk is a for sure top 6 guy next year though, and Bennett...meehhh. Who knows, I could be out to lunch but my guesses for what they will sign for is as follows:
Hanafin: $5.5M x 5 or 6
Lindholm: $4.5 x 5
Jankowski: $1.85 x 3 (would prefer longer)
I am not sure Kulak makes the cut simply because they have to start developing some of the other guys now. I like him and hope they do though, but could see him being an add on piece in somewhere. Big fan of him though. I think your bang on for Rittich. I think both Gilles and Rittich get 1 year prove yourself contracts and then next year will be one of the two or Parsons. Overall pretty close and realistic i think though! Although I think allot of the bottom RFA's will be slightly more money.

well, in this hypothetical scenario....Tavares did come to the Flames! lol. Tavaras will get 10.5 wherever he is, and thats probably what Hanofin will get. Hanofin is the real deal. Points and Posession. Realistically Carolina woudn;t make that trade though. Basically sent them allot of stuff, but nothing with real value in what would be the actual market unfortunately.

Just throwing it out there, but the comments are either in disgust about the return one way, or in disgust about the return the other way. I am not a big fan of the trade tbh, but the fact that there is such conflicting things proves that the person who did this proposal, probably did a pretty good job. If anyone has made actual trades before, you will find that quite often both sides do feel that they gave up too much, that is usually a good sign. good work.

well...i think like most others on this site...its kind of based on hypothetical..in this case the hypothetical that COL does the deal. Keeping Duchene would be ugly, and he will have to back down on his initial ask, the evolution of negations. Loook how quickly we went from "VGK will not take less than a first rounder for Mathot" to "OK" ina matter of days. Not to mention there was a time those same names were the only thing that would get Hamonic out of NYI. Could happen. But I actually 100% agree, i don't think Duchene would be a good fit. I don't know how comfortable he is on his off wing and there may be less risky choices, where you don't have to give up as much.

Giving into the Hudler Idea
its a two year show me contract. lol. With our space under the cap and RFA next season, 1 year may be a lose/lose. He doesn't do well, and we dont keep him, or he does well, and we over pay him. remember where he would be in th eline up, his numbers would be inflated, and the last player that really gelled with those two, was him. TSN keeps talking about Jagr and Iginla (45 and 40), I think a 2 year on a 33 year old who was a point per game guy in as similar an environment as you can get, if he was willing to take less than $2M, which lack of offers suggest there is a good chance, then I think it would actually be smart to get him for 2 years, because you wont be able to afford him for year 2. We are not talking about insance 4.5M/5year risks. We gavce up a rostered player for Shinkaruk, he puts up great AHL points, I would be that there would be a team out there that would put aside the odd personality for a 2nd rounder. I agree, I wouldn't, hence the trade, but I bet you could.

My 2017-18 Calgary Flames. Can you do better???
I like the train of thought however, as nice as gagner would be, actual needs need to trump players you like. Flames are deep down the middle that if you add centre man your just making your AHL team stronger at that point. I would say you want a natural winger to play such a prominent role with the two studs up front. I don't think Bennett has enough strength to battle pucks out of the zone from pinching defenseman to do as constantly as he would have to at the top unit. I like how you kept the 3M line together. To me it makes no sense to split that up. And I think $3M is too much for Bennett on a bridge deal. He has allot of work to do. Great kid and scored 4 goals in game, but has so much development defensively before he is at that level. Would love to see stone as a 5. I liked how you kept bouma. Everybody seems to have a hate on because of his numbers and I am not sure when he was ever sold to us as an offensive juggernaut .lol. look at how much Darren helm gets paid to do just that. And I don't agree with using 1.8M in cap space for Stajan not to play. He is a good bottom 6 guy. Maybe overpaid. But not as overpaid as he would be not contributing at all in a buyout. Now all of th sudden for the luxury of having another centreman your are paying the extra salary (in this case gagner) plus the buyout to accommodate the situation. ...i am waiting for food killing time...hence the reply. Haha. Love the D.

ALEXO
Easy tiger, it was the first speculated one from a Russian newspaper. Didn't have time to do the other one. Which would be a pretty unreal deal. I'd probably move Bennett for him as well though depending on how his ovechikin's personality meshes with the team and how he fits in the overall vision. There is obvious upside to Bennett, but defensively needs more improvement that can be provided in a bottom 6 capacity and with the emergence of the 3M line is tough to fit in the top 6 in my opinion. Great player, just circumstance I think makes him expendable under the right circumstances and for his sake would be good as well to get top 6 opportunity.
