Schneider wasn’t a top 3 goalie at the time.. nice try though.

I think Vancouver declines because they want to keep Demko. Not because the return is too small.
Maybe Mercer for Demko one-for-one. No goalie could could return Nemec.</div></div>
Name the last time a 28 year old, top 3 goalie got traded to a team that only needed a good goalie to be a much better calibre team.. you can’t.
Yea goalies historically haven’t returned much in a trade. But the situation that New Jersey is in combined with how good Demko is + his contract/age means you’d pay more - likely a price fans wouldn’t be comfortable with.
Mercer + prospect + pick for Demko.
Nemec + pick + younger roster player with not as much upside for Demko.

You’re asking for 2 years of a top 3 goalie on a cheap contract and THAT’S all you’re offering? Come on..
With Vancouver’s current needs, if Demko was dealt (highly unlikely right now), I can’t see any deal happening without starting with Mercer or Nemec. But this ain’t it.

1. You don’t trade franchise centres.

Large Marner Deal
Not terrible for a Marner deal - I’d think they might prefer Borgen over Larsson though since he’s younger and a similar player. & probably Wright over Sale for a more positional need at a prospect. Make the 1st top 5 or 10 protected and I think it’s closer of those changes are made
I’ve said and will likely post soon:
Seattle gets:
Marner
Toronto gets:
Wright
Borgen
Tanev (could be Gourde instead)
1st round pick (top 5 protected)

This whole narrative that plays don't waive there NTC or NMC is ridiculous bc it literally happens EVERY YEAR. With picks upcoming etc with a crap ton of cap</div></div>
Marner to Nashville isn’t a bad idea, but that deal likely doesn’t happen for various reasons.
1. Preds need centres more than wingers
2. Saros has not been good this year and likely asks for too much on a contract due to his previous seasons
3. Saros isn’t the type of goalie Treliving likes - he only likes bigger goalies. Anything shorter than 6’2” isn’t a guy he likes so I can’t see him trading for one under 6’

Realistic Off-Season
There will be changes to the team, likely big ones. NMC ‘a aren’t impossible to work with, it takes a man to man conversation with the player but generally when a player realizes that they aren’t wanted on a team it’s pretty easy to make a deal work. 1 of the core 4 is likely gone, all signs point to Marner. I’d be shocked if they “ran it back”. 9 years and no results is a whole other level of insanity.
Changes are coming barring a cup finals appearance.

Dallas doesn’t have anything to get Marner. Unless they’re willing to trade 1 of Oettinger, Heiskanen, Hintz, Johnston, or Robertson there is no deal.

Would honestly love Mason Appleton in Toronto and I think he’s a great fit and that’s an incredibly low price for him - I’d be shocked if he didn’t at least return a 2nd round pick. But that being said, unless Winnipeg is either retaining on him (unlikely) or taking a contract back, Toronto will have to use their cap space to address other areas before a 3RW is added but admittedly I’d add Appleton then worry bout moving someone after

Actually Marner did play centre in his last 2 years in junior. He rotated with Dvorak - as a long time season ticket holder of the Knights I literally watched him play centre.
& no. Nylander came up as a winger and has always been a winger. He has not had any continued length of time at centre in the NHL. He was tried at points but barely lasted that long. If you’re only classifying a guy as a centre based on how many faceoffs he’s taken, you might wanna double check that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dekes</b></div><div>If Marner asks for 13 mill which will be more then, tkachuk/ pasta/ kuch/ mackinnon/ potentially Rantanen/ potentially same as Draisaitl/ almost the same as Matthews. Then it will clearly show he only cares about money and nothing about winning so good luck to him playing for bottom feeders after Toronto.
The contract comp to nylander is terrible everyone knows nylander is overpaid. Nylander is worth 10 max maybe 10.5 if he was to play full time Center and excel in that spot.
But with that nylanders ability to play Center will give him and advantage on contract negotiations, Goals also pay so nylander being a much stronger goal scorer also adds up.
You can argue marners selke level defence but all that **** disappears in playoffs anyways.
I’m a bruins fan I’ve got my fair share of seeing leaf’s play and over our last few playoff runs against each other I can easily say that
Nylander/ Kadri/ Hyman/ Connor brown/ Kapanen / Johnsson/ all had played a much better all-around game then Marner did most those series</div></div>
You can argue whether or not Nylander is overpaid all you want - that doesn’t matter now. He’s paid that and that’s the comparable out there & Marner has always been better than Nylander so it’s a baseline his agent will use.
Also you saying “Nylander has the ability to play centre” as an advantage is quite hysterical. Just be cause a guy “can” play centre, doesn’t mean anything. Marner played centre in junior too, Nylander hasn’t played centre consistently at all in the NHL and when they said they were gonna give him a long look at the position this season, it literally lasted less than 2 games - his “ability to play centre” means absolute dog$hit nothing.
Marner is worth more than Nylander, substantially more. Whether or not you like it doesn’t matter.

Thread:
Marner UFA not stupid enough to trade for him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dekes</b></div><div>That’s hilarious. Well looks like Marner is going to the KHL then.
Draisaitl and Rantanen will set the price for Marner.
Drai is worth 2-4 mill more
Rantanen is worth 1.5-2.5 mill more
Both can play Center and both show up in playoffs.</div></div>
Clearly you don’t know how UFA works.
Marner currently makes $10.093M, he’ll be looking for a raise on a new contract, especially if he hits UFA. Next seasons cap is projected to be $87.7M and then the season after that is unknown right now but let’s say it increases another $2.5M on the low end. So that’s roughly $90.2M
Now back to to Marner’s current cap hit - the $10.093 was signed at a cap hit percentage of 13.38%. So even if he signed for the same contract when he hits UFA, then 13.38% of $90.2M is a little under $12.1M and that’s for not even a raise so there’s the base number. Now add in that it’s a UFA contract and players that are free agents always get more on the open market since there will be multiple teams bidding on him. & whether you love him or not, there will be a bunch of teams looking to sign Marner, I’d guess between 5-8 serious teams. So if a team wants to outbid the other teams, you’ve gotta offer something more than what they have to offer which is usually more money.
Now let’s look at a comparable - William Nylander. We can all agree that Marner is the better player (if you can’t then you don’t know a single thing about hockey). Nylander’s cap hit percentage is 13.77%. So now that’s the baseline - and 13.77% of $90.2M is just under $12.5M so that’s the REAL STARTING point for Marner. Add on that he’s a UFA and an extra $500K for all the reasons listed above and the fact that the cap should inflate over the term of the contract and now we’re at $13M easily..
So yes. As a UFA $13M+ is what Marner is looking at. He’ll likely be between $12-$12.5M if he re-signs with a team before he hits UFA but that will likely be with the extra year at the end.
There’s your lesson in hockey today. It’s not all about if YOU like the player. It’s a business first. & Marner is an asset that brings in money to a team and has the comparables to justify a $13M UFA contract whether you like it or not.

You're being more childish than Marner's glove throwing tantrum was.

I think the funniest thing is that you think I care what you “give me” for a player.. these aren’t real proposals. These are imaginary. I don’t work for a NHL team, nor do you. So you’re not “offering me” anything.

DeMelo and Levshunov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LosPatos</b></div><div>*money has entered the chat*</div></div>
The thread started here has Demelo signing a 5 year deal worth $5.25M per season.. easy to believe he can get likely at least $4M per season if not $4.5M per season from another contender. With the high taxes in California, the money here doesn’t really balance out. A team like Tampa is looking for a top 4 right handed defender and can offer a $4M or $4.5M AAV contract and Demelo walks hole with more money.
At a $4.5M AAV in Tampa, Demelo would walk away with a little under $200K more in cash than he would if he signed a $5.25M AAV contract in Anaheim.
At a $4M AAV in Tampa, Demelo would only be short about $100K less than if he signed a $5.25M AAV contract in Anaheim.
Gonna have to offer more than that to say money is the reason why he signs in Anaheim.

Players want to win. Money isn’t everything. If Anaheim was 2-3 years closer, I’d say Demelo would be a great fit. But they’re not close. Winning beats money.
