I don't see Ottawa wanting marner or Nylander. As a neutral party, I can say I would pay a premium for Tkachuk. Marner and Nylander would be interesting, depending on cost to acquire and contract demands, but neither are as appealing as Tkachuk.

Berube HC Next Year
I know marner is good, regardless of what's going on in the playoffs, I'd say no. The Sabres have too many small- soft guys (which is made worse by having several bigger soft guys). I would make the point that it's not just tuch and Greenway, it's tuch, Greenway, and like 6 million dollars that you don't have to pay marner. I don't like marner at 12, there's not many wingers I would like at 12.

Nice work on the trades, I like the targets. I'm hoping that girgensons and Bryson are not re-signed, there's no good reason to bring them back.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FlameFlameFruit</b></div><div>I considered adding Joki in the Seattle trade. I just didn't end up doing it. Joki was only moved here to clear space on the right side. And with whatever picks you get, could possibly be moved for an upgrade.
In the end, I just did it to clear him off the team.
I like the idea of Gourde. He's older, but could be a good vet presence. I also like the idea of getting a bigger 3C, though.</div></div>
I see more of what you see. I don't think all of the high end forward prospects stick though, very similar skill set, I can see a couple being moved for the help you suggested. Was watching the Leafs-Bruins games, it's a different sport from what the Sabres play. I think 3c that can legit play two way and win a draw, has got to be high on the Sabres list. Honestly, I'm not sure the Sabres are gonna do anything with their d, but I'm with ya, I would move out 2-3 d and go after a very different skill set.

The Sabres need to get tougher, not even up for debate, but they need them to be able to play hockey too. That year in Nashville really seems like a one off.

Ur GM clearly has a history of saying one thing and doing the complete opposite so maybe take his word with a grain of salt?</div></div>
Value is close I think, for the Sabres at least, I think adams was interested in cates too. For me, the Sabres are so soft that I want anybody coming in to bring their own sandpaper with em. I'm not a fan of their build as it stands- 5 puck moving d, 5 left shot d, two centers who aren't good in their own zone, a bunch of skilled forwards who avoid contact at all costs and gravitate to the Perimeter as soon as they think the coach isn't looking. I have been watching toronto-Boston, it's like watching a different sport.

Buying out Skinner and trading Savoie and Power
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>I'd take on Skinner for a 3rd if I'm the Sharks. That buyout is fine for the first year but man it goes up a lot after that. After next year:
$4,444,445 $6,444,445 $2,444,445 $2,444,445 $2,444,445
He's a cap dump not a buyout.</div></div>
He's a cap dump with a full ntc that doesn't wanna move away from his family (near toronto). In other words, he's gonna veto any trade. So if you REALLY wanna get rid of him, he's a buyout. To be fair I could be way off here, but that's what it looks like.

Packing picks for bad contracts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Buffalo is under no pressure to pay anything significant to move Jeff Skinner's contract, let alone Ryan Johnson, let alone the 11th overall pick in this year's draft. They've dealt with that boat anchor for five seasons now, so there's no reason to think that it's any great burden this year when the cap ceiling is expected to rise $3 million and the RFAs to be re-signed won't be getting significant raises with the possible exception of UPL. And that's <strong>if</strong> Skinner would consider waiving his NMC, which I highly doubt -- he seems committed to western NY.</div></div>
There's no urgency because the Sabres have cap space. I think ruff should have a ton of say in this decision. Basically, for me, the question is, if Skinner isn't in the top 6, would ruff wanna keep him around on line 3 (I'm thinking with a vet 2way center and greenway)? Would put your defensive liability winger on a checking line to try to get 5v5 production? Plus I genuinely hate how the skinner/kreuger thing went down- a terrible coach tried to shame an offense only winger, it couldn't have worked worse, and the coach took it on the chin. That's not a guy I want in the room with young players. Of course I realize it's gonna cost a lot to extricate him from the roster, that's why I think ruff should have a lot to say. Can he use him or not.

Skinner passes. Considering how his contract is set up, and why, if the Sabres wanna get rid of Skinner, probably gonna have to be a buyout.

This is really bad. Samuelsson is a defensive d, and he's big. Guys like that are in demand, nobody ever wants to get smaller and less physical going into the playoffs. His contract is a good thing, it's cost certainty for years.

I'd rather keep Samuelsson and see if he can put together a full season. He's really the only defensive d that the Sabres have. I'd like to say that maybe ruff will get him to be more physical, but I don't expect much change.

Joshua would be a good target. You are overpaying in dollar amount and term, which is probably what it would take in a competitive market. I get wanting physical play, but I don't think macdermid is good at all. I thought I heard pesce turned down a buffalo trade last year, so there's possibly that, and that he likely gets a fair amount more on the market- unless he takes less for sunshine or a shot at a cup. I don't know if there's any appetite to buy Skinner out internally, I imagine the new coach would have some say, Skinner is an offense only winger, who refuses to backcheck, and his game has not translated to success at the team level. Having said that, it's gonna cost to get rid of him. I don't care so much about Kane, adams has been interested in the recent past, as long as he doesn't overpay AND he doesn't make the mistake he made with Taylor hall- letting him have a full ntc, then getting peanuts when he picks his spot (if things go bad and he wants out). Bleuger and Martin are fine for what we need, no interest in Bryson coming back though.

Because he wants to be near family in Toronto, and toronto certainly doesn't need or want him. That's why his contract is still mind boggling. He's an offense only winger- who is a liability on defense, he was coming off a season scoring 40 (with 26 assists mind you) with eichel. What's the market for that player?- maybe Hoffman would be a decent comp, so a shade over 5 per. The Sabres gave him 9 per, with a full ntc, like it matters.

Owners influence decisions all the time.</div></div>
The problem I have with this idea, is I think pegula was responsible for giving Skinner that contract. Moving him for smith would be admitting to a mistake, maybe not as much as a buyout, but still. Plus, I'm just gonna assume that Skinner nixes any trade anyway.
