Leafs 2023 2024 Season Discussion Part 7 - Shambles
Ilya Lyubushkin hasn't been on for a 5v5 goal against in this series, and he's third on the team with a 58.3 xGF%.
Sums up this series but also would not mind bringing back on a reasonable deal as he has not been bad just this Dcore needs renovations
Till they can find or develop someone better would not mind a 2 year 1.5m deal for him and just slot him with MO

Yep what team is winning with a 7% PP and 50% PK
Or in 10 of their last 11 cant score more than 2 goals
Game 1: 1 goal
Game 2: vs. Ullmark 3 goals
Game 3: 2 goals 0/5 PP
Game 4: 1 goal
WTF we paying these big 4 for if we struggling to score in big playoff moments. Dont matter whose in net if these guys just crumble when they meet a goalie who can stop them a few times.

The last time we lost to Boston in 7, we had a 3-2 series lead and we're down a goal in the 3rd period of game 6 and he played Matthews something like 3 minutes in the 3rd while playing Marleau 11 minutes. Babcock was a bad coach who cost the team and Keefe is no better. He played Sammy these playoffs, there are some (me probably more than any on here) who absolutely knew he was going to have bad games cost us. (Game 1 and 3 are as much on him as anyone else). He never adjusts anything, he gets out coached all the time. It's just dumb, Keefe has to go.</div></div>

Steve Dangle has a saying and it fits this issue with TOR
2 + 2 = 5 is what Leafs management is trying to get out of these guys
When you have so much money tied into 4 forwards these are the issues we see rn
This team has no playoff depth scoring, defense is meh, and goaltending is unpredictable
And we can go to ABC and go so why dont they fix. They cant without trying to get rid of one of them but now they got big fat NMC
That said with what we saw game 4 I think one of them may be more willing now

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>Genuinely thought with the new “playoff style editions” would be the difference maker. And they’ve been pretty good (a few dumb penalties). It’s the core not being able to score that’s the problem. There is no justification for not trading Marner and maybe Tavares (although no one is taking John Tavares, even for free, so that’s why it’s probably better just to ride out the last year of his contract).
PS: as much as it needs to happen that we trade Marner, I’m fully expecting them to resign him. This is the same crap we’ve seen year in and year out. I’m so sick of it.</div></div>
Leafs had the decision to make a year ago.
1) Dump the core 3 or 4 and rebuild, or
2) Re-sign the core 3, almost guarantee they will be the 3 highest scorers in Leafs history, and accept that there will be little to no playoff success.
Now all have No Trade Clauses. The decision was made - now we live with it. Enjoy the regular season - after all, it's longer than the playoffs.

I don’t fault Reaves for the 1rst goal, as if that was the difference maker, you have more issue with your team
It’s looks like a bunch of players are either sick (Matthews) or just don’t care enough to win, they couldn’t be bothered. Then you have your 3 best players chirping each other on the bench to really seal the chaos happening.
Extremely disappointing from this team, it’s definitely a new low for me, hopefully they make enough changes and improvements to this team where they can come back better next year, age 27 for Matthews BTW, 27 for Marner and 28 (I believe) for Nylander</div></div>
I can’t say Matthews doesn’t want it. Apparently according to reports Matthews had to be forced out of the game by doctors due to medical concerns.
Doesn’t sound like he wanted to stop

At least Mitch got one, but it just seems like collectively, as a group, the core 4 (5?), is never clicking at the same time. Like is it really too much to ask to see us be able to score around 4 goals a night, one for Matthews, one for someone else on the core four, maybe a couple depth guys get goals.
I honestly don’t know what to think about a possible comeback. But it’s not looking too good for us, I’m not really expecting much at this point. And even if we do win this series I don’t have a lot of confidence they can win another one, let alone 3.</div></div>
We moved to form 7 so do it there but yea agreed how is scoring the issue lul
Were paying these guys almost 50 combined and so far its 3 goals in 4 games combined from the 3 of them
Willy gets a pass only for this game cause its his first back and maybe will extend it if they go the distance but yea not good

If Woll isn't good enough we are in the same position as we are now. Having to outscore your problems because you will have too many goals against.
It's not that Sammy has been terrible but he's been not very good. 3.05 GAA and sub 900 save percentage isn't good enough.

Honestly its almost ironic the biggest issue of Toronto is the fact despite having so much money tied into forwards they have trouble scoring
Like if your the new CEO of MLSE your going to Shanahan and going so um WTF we doing lul
And here's the fun part we cant move any of them they all got NMC so for those who want significant change the odds of that are down

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>I’m not sure if you considered that a goalie cannot allow 2.46 goals in a game lol? And 2.46 is basically 2 and a half, in other words, Sammy’s GAA from games 2 and 3 lol
I don’t love Sammy so much. I’m just not sure what you want to do here. I guess we can switch to starting Woll, but is he going to be any better coming in cold for basically not really playing for a couple months? At some point (if the leafs lose game 4 and Sammy is bad) obviously you would put Woll in. I just don’t know what you’re trying to prove here. Everyone knows Sammy is a weak starting goalie that’s not likely to be a starter on a cup winning team. But he’s what we got</div></div>
If you put Woll in and he's a little rusty and allows 3 goals, that's the same as what we have with Sammy. If he plays like he did in his starts last year vs Florida, he's an upgrade. Sammy is done as a leaf after this season. Why would you keep him? He's had some stretches of really good play and as many horrible stretches. He's been mediocre in the playoffs his entire career and it just can't be denied that he's mentally fragile. And that just doesn't cut it.
So what should we do? Play Woll. Should have given him game 2 and then ride it out. His ceiling is higher and the floor he has to beat is 3 GAA and 900 sv%. Those aren't hard numbers to beat.
Yeah it would be nice if the PP and the offence just came around and had a few great games. That's pretty important sure but you also need the saves Sammy doesn't provide.

It’s not stellar but it’s more or less average. When you have a team built on its offence 3 goals against is fine and you should be able to score 4 goals for the win.
By the way I agree if Sammy has not been great, he had a horrible game one. But his games 2 and 3 have been fine and good enough for us to be winning games. We just need to be scoring more, especially on the PP</div></div>
Exactly
Like is a team winning a playoff round with a 9% PP and a 50% PK
Has Sammy been game changing no but he's done well enough games 2 and 3 where we should have come out with wins
But nope 1/11 PP and a PK that basically almost guarantees a goal for BOS lul

How is that not hard to understand 2 goals a game total is not good to be scoring when you have 4 guys making almost 50m
TOR having a 9% or 1/11 PP on top of only scoring 2 goals a game 9 of their last 10 playoffs is also bad lul
But if you really need to short answer <strong>YES</strong> TOR goals for a playoff game 9 of their last 10 games has not been good enough.
When this team is built on high powered offense with 4 guys at almost 50m and fails to deliver dont matter whose in net we go no where.
If you cant figure that out especially with the money being thrown to these big players I dont know what else to say as we cant keep making excuses when they are making the big bucks and in big moments do not consistently deliver
Will end with this and be done as its getting silly if they do not get their act together and put on a better show and give us more than 2 or 3 goals major change better happen this offseason and not just the HC or assistants but the core

But he has discussed it before "It's above me, but it's also concerning my team, so yes we have 100% input in this, and we have to look at market prices everywhere in the NBA and in our market. We have to consider our fans too. It's been looked at in every way possible"
I think if u had a Leafs president who complained enough you would see better prices. Not super affordable but not what were currently seeing. Heck maybe the new MLSE CEO will go to the board and say look we need better prices for the fans as we need a new culture here not just business snoozefest topia lul
Lets see cause if this keeps up eventually TOR seats will just be filled with black suits and ties and briefcases by 2027 100% lul</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oneX</b></div><div>Raptors tickets are just more affordable and that's fact because I have been to at least 1 Raptors game a year. You wouldn't catch me at a Leafs game because the ticket prices sky high.
It has nothing to do with Masai but everything to do with greed. MLSE knows they can charge whatever for Leafs tickets and get away with it...it's not quite the same with the Raptors.</div></div>
The Leafs need to look into building a new arena (ideally right beside the current one) or rebuilding the ACC to increase capacity. They could easily push 30k, keep their high priced seats and have more reasonable nosebleeds.
I dream of a time where someone living in London can grab a round trip Go train (need to have them run late enough to go home) and see a Leafs game for about $150.
The rebuild plan would be multiple years of construction so they'd need to start working on a temporary home now where they can play for a few years that isn't a Coyotes situation. No fewer than 16k ideally. Does anyone know how large Hamilton's new arena is? I know the Bulldogs have moved out to brantford while its being built.
Edit:
Hamilton looks like the answer. God bless Tim Leiweke https://venuesnow.com/280-million-hamilton-arena-project-takes-shape/

Maybe I’ve thought about so many names they all just kinda seem generic and lazy. Like what low grade theme park would name its newest ride. So why not be generic and lazy to the extreme, own it and do it well, go big or go home. Could refer to them as whatever people from Utah call themselves, or just Utah. (A Ute?, the Utes?) (I’ve recently lived thru the St. Louis MLS expansion and really like our branding there, local ownership enhances marketing opportunity and impact, impresses upon fans that advertising partners are “us”).
It would be fun if their mascot was a snake and it was a dude in a modified green inflatable flailing arms man costume, so for that I’m rooting for venom or poison or whatever. They could have a power play dance for the fans that looks absolutely stupid and ridiculous, making it amazing, where they all wiggle around like snakes.</div></div>
