Leafs 2023 2024 Season Discussion Part 6 - Nearly Playoffs

Marner's never shown he can be a contributor worth 10.9 mill in the playoffs... That's what makes everyone concerned...
He comes out tonight and score 4 points, and keeps it up throughout the series, different story, if he wasn't, on average, 2 shots and a -1 and that's all he's done, different story...
Heck, if Toronto was up 2-0 coming back home with Marner being a contributor to G1, different story, but none of these things happened

He has actually performed in the playoffs. 47 points in 52 games. Now I have been very critical of him as well. He gets in his head and does dumb things. But this playoffs is 2 games old and he hasn't looked bad, hasn't dominated but he hasn't looked bad. Give it a few games. We just won a game and several dudes on here just talk about trading Marner. Its beyond silly.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CantStopWontStop</b></div><div>Anybody have a guess on Chychrun’s trade value and next contract?
Revisiting his last trade, he went for a sub 16 draft pick (unknown at time and top 5 protected), a 2nd, and a 2nd 2 years later.
I’m finding him very comparable to Vince Dunn and his 4 year, 7.35AAV, and acquiring him gets you next season at his current aav of 4.6.
I wonder if Ottawa gets back “more” than they paid, primarily because Chychrun played all 82 games this past season, and the acquiring team would be extending at the time of trade. I think they can flip him for more.
I dunno if my blues would be involved but the left side of our d is going to change eventually, one way or the other.</div></div>
Personally, I would keep Chychrun and move Chabot out if I were Ottawa.
Sanderson is the absolute stud of the future there and they need a RD complement to him (a defensively responsible partner) to allow Sanderson to push the play. Pesce would be ideal but Demelo or Matt Roy would be in the mix.
Chychrun-Zub as their 2nd pair would be ideal. If they strike out on their top pair targets then maybe Sean Walker and bump Zub up to the top pair.

The list of things Leafs fans can get upset about is long, distinguished and baked fresh daily. It's generally pretty hard to fake a surprise spear to the back of the knee. Ya know, because it's a surprise. And it's the back of the knee, which has zero protection and a whole lot of function wiring.</div></div>
Obviously, but I'm just pointing out why it would have made Leaf fans upset...

He's not figured it out for the past 8 years... What makes you think he'll figure it out now while playing top 6...
Give him bottom 6 comp, like PLD and Lindholm and nurse his confidence when Willy comes back...

Yep, that we can agree on. Problem is, that doesn't happen every game.
I'm gonna go one step further and say Matthews has to build on this effort tonight especially when you consider Marner really hasn't done much in this series so far.
As for the goaltending...well, playing like this will really help both goalies and will need both IMO.

Isles should be embarrassed
Up 3 to 1 going into the third and yet are now down 3 to 5 with a min to go and have only registered 12 shots on net in 3 periods

Like I said earlier, the Isles stopped playing once it hit 3-0, they were just trying to chip the puck to center and park the bus in front of the net.
Hurricanes looked like they were on a powerplay for the entire 3rd period

Everyone top to bottom was good. Could we nitpick yes but meh we won who cares
Just tone down the temper to not give BOS easy PP's.
Liked the physicality, liked the big lines stepping up, liked everyone stepping up after that awful last min to period 1
And if they can play like that Game 3, 4, and 5 they set especially if Willy returns
