Wild Bill trade deadline moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pasta88bruins</b></div><div>2021 draft picks have very little value right now compared to other years</div></div>
Someone in one of my other threads tried to make that argument and I don't agree. It isn't like all these teams waited until this year to scout this class, they have had many of these guys on the radar for years. Yes, the draft is weaker that 2022 on paper, particularly at the top, but there is still a ton of talent in this draft and those teams that did their homework early will benefit. I think the 2022 players will be hard to scout/slot if things don't open up. But when it comes to 2021, my guess is that roughly the same 30 guys are on most draft boards with a few differences based on preference. Would you rather offer up your 2021 first since it has "little value"? :) And the Wild offer you a 2022 4th rounder?

Gust is a UFA/rental which we have no business buying. We have tons of youth that we need to move up/in to roster. Wild are the ones looking for a playoff push/run. He is better off on your roster than ours. Or pick a team who will actually be in the game, we are in the lottery draft rather than the playoffs this season.</div></div>
Ah, got it. Makes sense although the Wild have no business in the playoffs. Yes, they are playing well right now but it's all be secondary scoring and that won't last. This is a rebuild year and even to an extent next year. I just figured that being four points out and the Pitt front office changing direction that you might slide into that 4th slot. Thanks for explaining, makes sense.

Mojo and a 4th this year for a 2nd in two years. If it was a 2nd straight up I would agree with you, but being a low second and you get a higher 4th this year I felt it evened out. What would you think is a fair price?

As a Wild fan I would pass on that Nashville trade. Zuc won't waive his NMC to go to a team in rebuild and miss playing with K97... and Ryan Johansen just isn't worth that anymore. Didn't he just get his first goal of the season last night or the night before? I'd rather keep the draft picks.

Well, getting the pick to be a lottery pick helps get full value for Zucker (even though Addison looks legit). And I agree on Dumba... getting a late 1st from Philly with Frost, and then pick up a 3rd on the trade of Gustufsson makes it a 1st, Top Prospect and 3rd for Dumba which I think is pretty fair for a Right Shot D with his skill, shot, age & term.

I think you are right, but my other logic around putting this out there is it is all trades that help keep Pitt out of the playoffs as well. Helping the teams competing with Pitt for that 4th spot in the hopes that we can get Pitt's as a lottery pick.

I agree, but I am really hoping the Wild hang onto him for just that reason. I know he as arbitration rights and will probably get 2.5-3m, which might be too much for BG but I think he is worth it given his ability to play up and down the lineup.

Prior to the season, I was very interested in Domi... and still think he has a game to find but I am less interested now. MarJo has been hurt or unimpressive for us so it would be zero loss to move him. If the Wild felt like they could make a deep push (which I don't think they can even with the recent success), maybe you are buyers at the deadline for a guy like Domi.... but my guess is the Wild will hold steady or sell at the deadline.

Wild Bill strikes early again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>I'm a firm believer in staying the course for Minnesota. The biggest challenge will be navigating the Parise and Suter contracts as they decline, but they have some good prospects and with players like Kaprizov and Fiala looking like they'll be stars, why go after a big fish like Eichel that comes with a huge contract? Let's pretend they make the deal in this ACGM, how do you afford Kaprizov and Fiala if you could get them signed through their prime to good contracts with $10m Eichel, $7.5m Suter, Parise, and Spurgeon, $6m Brodin and Zucc? That's around half your cap tied up in those players and you still need to pay Fiala, Kaprizov, Erickson Ek soon and potentially Kahkonen, Addison, Rossi, Boldy after that before all of those deals come off the books. The cap isn't going to go up significantly for another 2-3 years I'd think.</div></div>
It's a fair question, which is why I had the Dumba deal in here... to clear that 6m and also sent Fiala on the Eichel deal. My concern is Fiala has had almost a half a season of good play... I am really concerned he will want north of 7m and I am not comfortable paying him that with what he has shown for how long he has shown it. So to me moving Fiala out (and Dumba in the other deal) gives us more than enough room for Eichel and paying K97 plus those others.
As far as staying the course... what happens if Rossi isn't the #1 C next year? The UFA's gone, Boldy won't be up here next year... so we have even more holes and only a little cap space. You waste valuable years of K97. Additionally, It's critical we move Dumba to lower the investment on the backend. You need to get Suter to waive his NTC for the expansion draft to protect Soucy. But in the end we need to make some moves because it's unlikely we'll find that #1C/#2C in this upcoming draft as it's D-Heavy and we don't need D replacements for a few years with our current core.

Wild Bill strikes early again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OutCold13</b></div><div>Wow this is a impressive thread, like 3 pages. Wild aren't getting Eichel, and this wouldn't be the offer to do it. Talbot is a nice goalie for the Wild but Sabres would showcase the holes in his game. Ultimately Eichel ends up in LA or NY. Rangers and Kings have a lot of nice prospects Wild won't be able to out bid them. Watching the Kings now I think they offer Byfield and a bit more and see what happens. Kings are actually within range of a playoff spot and Eichel might put the Kings over the top for the 4 seed.
Last thought if Wild were to make a offer for Eichel, it probably starts with Rossi and Wild 21 and 22 first and then keep adding. Wild would probably need to move Dumba for cap space and assets to include in the deal, IMO.</div></div>
LA will struggle with Cap Space as they have to sign Iafallo + 6 UFA's with 24m (which will only be 14m with Eichel. In addition, they have an aging Quick with no really backup... so he's right back into a losing team with no goalie. Yes, they have better prospects but if they are traded away to get him... then there isn't much coming to help him.
MTL has all the assets, just no Cap Space. They could put together a very serious offer if they wanted... Caufield, Poehling, etc. They also have 14 picks in the 2021 draft lol
NYR have some good prospects but I am not sure they are willing to trade most of them and 6 our of their top 7 are defenseman. Is Buffalo going to take 3 D prospects instead? Doubtful
I will be interesting to see where he ends up. Thanks all for your input into this trade thread.

Eichel could not be more of a perfect fit for us: top tier, right shot, offensive, center under 25 and signed long term. But we aren't in a position to give up the assets it would take to get him. Our best bet is to hope Rossi turns into a top line player or hope we can win the lottery for Wright, Savoie, or Lambert in 2022.</div></div>
We've been "hoping" for 20 years for a #1 Center.... need to stop hoping and move the assets to get him. Those other teams can offer more prospects, but not the same amount of draft capital or are in any better shape than the Wild. I think the Wild are closer than LA, and I am not sure the Canes are even interested. The Rangers are, and have good prospects but have said they won't move Laf or Kakko... so then how good is the rest of the prospects they can offer?

Why go play in minnesota or ottawa or winnipeg (glass houses and all that, but its not my decision) when you could wait a year before opening your trap and force a trade to new york, chicago, anaheim, la, or one of the florida teams? The sabres arent going to move him because they arent winning, they might move him if he kicks up a fuss next year. And my guess is after the epic fail that was the ror trade, they wont be taken out to the woodshed again. The market will decide whats fair, and if adams and the pegulas dont like it, he gets bonus time here or in the khl if he chooses.</div></div>
Buffalo's leverage is until the NTC kicks in... that's when they can/will get the most for him. I get Eichel's strategy to pick his team but if Buffalo is smart they won't wait to let Eichel decide and get less value. So that's why I think he will be moved before the start of next season when the NTC kicks in and because this year, even after adding Hall has turned into a disaster. I think my offer was fair, you don't... that's fine. We'll see what he ends up getting moved for.

Also SINCE HASEK??????????? Not Ryan Miller?????????? Even Biron was a decent starter after Hasek, what are you talking about. They then had Lehner but Botterill let him walk for free. Any way... 2 picks in the 2 least scouted drafts in the last 50 years, this years is so random that Raty was a lock for #1 in October is now sitting at #11. They're an absolute crap shoot and are probably the 2 least valuable years in recent memory. This year doesnt even look that strong so they could absolutely whiff with that pick. They are not as valuable as you think they are. Then Minnesota's 4th best center prospect... for a franchise Center... Eichel has not said he wants out, everyone on this website just has nothing better to do than hope that happens, even if he did teams would beat this offer without even knowing it existed. It starts with Kaprizov + Rossi +</div></div>
And like the Rangers... the Wild hang up the phone. One small correction is that Khovanov is their 4th best prospect (not 4th best Center prospect). I can get your concern around the unknown of this years draft. I can give you that but I think even you know deep down that Eichel won't be playing for Buffalo next year.
