If CBJ would do this, sure. But I can’t see them moving him for Johansson.

Wild probably need to add a little, but given Tortz was just playing Domi at 4LW I'd say this is possible.

I agree, his game is much better suited for the wing, but he's more of a center than Johansson and has shown he can at least perform at center.

I'd gladly do this trade, not sure if Columbus would though.

I don't see why CBJ would do this.

Domi isn't a center anymore than Granny was. MN doesn't need more LWs. So not much reason for MN to do this trade either. MarJo's cap at least goes away, while Domi would be another year at $5.3m. Not a good use of cap.

As much as I don't like Rask at center that line is somehow working. Neither Domi or Rask would be a good fit where JEE is or as the 3C in MN.

I’m not sold on that. His trajectory was going up as a C, which is where he had his 70 pt season. I’m not gonna say move Rask off the KK-Zucc line but I would more confident with him as the pivot, not to mention he’s more attractive in the ED.

I watched about 10-20 games of him over the summer when we were without hockey since Habs fans were forcing Domi trades down our throats and that was just what I took away. Like I said, he has certainly produced at center, I just think his game is better suited for the wing. He'd easily be the best player that has produced at center on our roster if we traded for him.

He spiked a good year where everything went right for him, then fell back down to his norm again. Lots of players do that in their careers.

He doesn't have the d-zone game to play center.

Right, which is why I’d entertain this. If Jarmo wanted to get rid of a year of salary it’d be foolish to not move Johansson for him. He’d be a definite upgrade this year and if he produces at that 40-50 pt pace once he gets here he’s expansion fodder. I see very little downside to this iteration.

CBJ will suck it it with Domi and his 5.5 X 1.5 years contact. If it wasn't for the Sabres contracts, Johansen and his 8m X 4.5 years might be worse contract in the NHL

Wrong Johansen. This is Johansson, signed only through the rest of this season at $4M cap hit. But you're right the Preds Johansen has a really bad contract.

Thanks for much for the correction. Guess the question is, do the Wild want 5.5m free cap space next season by not trading for Domi

This would either require us to lose him in expansion, or would require us to move Dumba (which will probably happen anyways). We need to sign Fiala and Kaprizov to long term deals (both will probably be around $7M AAV) and Ek will get a nice new deal, so that would be something to keep in mind if we made a swap like this.

Domi has been put at 4LW so it's possibly.

Even so. They play the same positions with similar styles. Johansson is five years older with half as many points. Give Kekalainen a little credit. He pulled a rabbit out of a hat in getting Domi.

Prior to the season, I was very interested in Domi... and still think he has a game to find but I am less interested now. MarJo has been hurt or unimpressive for us so it would be zero loss to move him. If the Wild felt like they could make a deep push (which I don't think they can even with the recent success), maybe you are buyers at the deadline for a guy like Domi.... but my guess is the Wild will hold steady or sell at the deadline.
