Hooking up with the jets
I'll use the Trouba trade arguments, why wouldn't the Jets just wait till free agency and try to sign RNH for free?
I think this is bad for the Oilers and I'm a Jets fan, they should be signing RNH to a $7.25M×8 year deal not trading him, having him as a top 6 winger and as a backup to shift to center if one of McDavid or Draisaitl get injured is a luxury that shouldn't be traded away, other teams can only dream of having that kind of insurance.

If you were to trade Rantanen would you trade him for a package like that? I wouldn’t, so then I don’t think that Florida would trade Huberdeau for that package.</div></div>
Ill admit i misunderstood your original comment.
No, I would not move Rantanen for that package however, COL is heading in a much different direction.
FLA needs picks and prospects to rebuild, COL has no use for picks and prospects at this time

Huberdeau
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smokingun71</b></div><div>Yes different situations but you don’t trade a 90 point winger in Huberdeau for 2 third liners, 2 late firsts and a top prospect in Byram. I personally just wouldn’t do it, I think there would be much better offers</div></div>
If we use the Stone trade as a proxy, then this blows that return away. Yes Stone was on an expiring deal, but I think everyone knew he was going to re-sign.
In this case the return would need to be better because Huberdeau doesn't have one foot out the door the way Stone did. IMO, Byram, Kaut, and two firsts would be about right. It's tough to really put a trade value on star players though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smokingun71</b></div><div>I see Huberdeau and Rantanen as pretty close in value. Would you accept that type of trade for Rantanen??</div></div>
Different situations. Colorado is entering a window of contention and looking to add. Florida is allegedly looking to cut salary. Assuming the rumor about the Panthers cutting costs is true, then Byram and first round picks are what they probably need.
That said, I don't think Huberdeau gets traded yet. It might happen eventually, but they have time to see if they can right the ship and don't need to do anything rash.

Oilers win lottery and then BLOW it up For FUN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>No defenceman in the league is worth the public perception of Draisaitl. But is Slavin worth someone who produces like an 80 point player when taken away from McDavid? I'd say so.</div></div>
Draisaitl outscored McDavid this year whether together or apart.
While together (5v5)
Draisaitl: 3.04 P/60
McDavid: 2.93 P/60
While apart (5v5)
Draisaitl: 2.7523 P/60
McDavid: 2.7473 P/60
Here are some other players you might recognize:
Aho: 2.42 P/60
Svechnikov: 2.33 P/60
Teravainen: 2.22 P/60
Aho was on pace for 80 points. Are you saying Slavin is worth more than Aho?

This is how you get no one to ever take you seriously. No defenseman in the league is worth Draisaitl.

Read the description part two
For the Oilers trade you forgot to add the typical Bracco and a 3rd.
Why would other cap strapped teams take on 6.9 million for 3 years for positions they dont need?
Unless teams strike out in free agency I cant see them paying anything significant for either player. Cap space is way more important.
Just hot garbage.

Not likely, but let's pretend he would Montreal just turns around and offers 8. The Habs will not let him go without a fight even if it means they have to move another quality player like Tatar or Drouin

Realistic Cap Outlook
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smokingun71</b></div><div>Russel’s salary next year is 1.5M plus a 1M signing bonus. Since the bonus was paid on July 1 wouldn’t his salary be only 1.5M, therefore if we restrained 1M would bring it down to only 500k in actual cash being owed?</div></div>
You have to retain a percentage. It can be any amount up to 50%. So if you retain 50% of Russell's contract it leaves both teams paying $750k (50% of $1.5M) and both teams taking a $2M (50% of $4M) charge against their cap.
PS. You're right about the bonus, its already been paid so it doesn't factor in to any future move.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Herms17</b></div><div>Why would you care what Russell is owed??? his cap space is 4 million. That is what he costs to building the team. The owner might care about that, but not the GM(to a point).
Oilers are delusional about the return for JP(i live in this city, trust me). He is a 22 year old bottom 6 forward till he proves the NHL otherwise. A second for a player that was drafted in 2016 that has done nothing ample of opportunity, is generous considering he couldn't even play on the Oilers and lack luster wing depth at that time. Just because he was a 4th overall pick 4 years ago shouldn't mean he should retain that value.
but either way, I value any opinion so thanks for not calling me a ****.</div></div>
In a covid world, the owners are losing money, they would look at russell since his real money is a lot less than his cap hit

(a) Russell might return a 4th without retention and (b) Holland won't accept a 2nd for Puljujarvi.
This is more in line with what CF users think these players are worth. Par for the course.
