If we let Liljegren “marinate" in the A next year we can go after someone like Hamonic in the offseason and have both Sandin and Liljegren, + a healthy Dermott next year.
Would be sick

That sounds quite intriguing!
You are absolutly right about letting Liljegren and Sandin stay with the Marlies, it means Leafs won't have to worry about protecting either.
I really hope Hamonic isn't stuck on wanting to stay in western Canada because adding him to the roster would really help.
I have not seen enough of Barrie to have an informed opinion but from what analysts have said...I am worried about his defensive zone play and if it's true, would rather spend money on steady defensive play than a highly offensive guy like Barrie.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trickster</b></div><div>No thanks to the Marner trade from Leafs.</div></div>
As a Leafs fan, I would do it. That’s the type of trade Toronto needs for Marner: an NHL ready and proven forward, a prospect, and a pick. That trade fits. But since the NHL is a league with a cap, Marner’s ask cripples a lot of trade destinations. Apparently teams are quickly discovering that after talking to his agent.

You have been on this site for just a couple of months.... Four years later and 26,000 posts, hopefully I've learned a few things.
You've had quite a running start in your early debut. I'm kinda nutty but always enjoy good honest conversation ...or any topic. Nice to have you onboard

It's a little more complicated than that. Also has to do with "pro" years. Now Liljegren first year as Marlie doesn't count because he was of junior age.
So, last year, this yer and next year would give three pro years. But if he played only 1.5 years in in the NHL less a game....meaning 1.4999 years as Leaf, half a season this year and a full season next year ...he doesn't have to be protected. (as I understand it).

The bonus was Liljegern is a max 400,000 this season, so it's not like it's big cap hit this year or next if he helps the Leafs. Sandin has no bonuses. Just saying the Leafs wouldn't hold them back and keep Marleis because of bonuses... I read that Liljegren would have to protected in the expansion if he played 42 games or more with the Leafs this season. So that report is accurate, that;'s a better reason to "Marlie him" if necessary.
Just looking ahead to 2020/21, Leafs really need Sandin and Liljegren to be NHL good. Dermot and Reilly are the only other two Leafs. Three spots to fill.

Well, I'm not an outsider and I don't think Liljegren is NHL ready in October, Agree with you the Leaf have to give Ceci a shot. I don't understand the distrain so many have for Ceci. Let's see how he does with a better partner and teammates. Unfortunately Dermot is hurt, and there always the possibility the one or two guys are going to be injured at the same time. IMO Marincin will be OK with regular minutes.

He like most, thought Liljegren was going to be a Karlsson type, which was an unfair comparison. He's an elite level skater and puck carrier but I am not sure he has the passing ability to be an elite offensive guy. I see him being a great complementary guy for an elite LHD. He'll be very responsible defensively and extremely good skater who I feel will compliment Rielly very well.

Liljegren in fact did not take a step back, he didn't take a step forward offensively but he took many steps forward defensively and was the Marlies best defensive defenceman in the playoffs. At his age that is quite the accomplishment.

I don't think he's going to be the best suited to play with Rielly. Dermott is far better.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Marincin and Lijegren or Schmaltz on the 3rd pair with Ceci either traded or sitting and Dermott on the top pair when he's back. But I would be fine with Dermott and Liljegren on the 3rd pair.

Creating even more cap room strengthen D
Sens aren't giving an asset to move that deal. LTIR contracts are valuable assets to both teams. Toronto because it gives them more functional cap room and a bit more breathing room, and Ottawa because they're a cash poor team and LTIR contracts get mostly paid through insurance.
Ottawa would rather pay Clarke 400k or whatever on LTIR, than have to find another 4.5 million to get to the floor and actually have to spend 4 million dollars.

This is a bad deal for TO. They don't need McDavid, and giving up 2 elite wingers and two decent depth guys for 1 franchise centre when you already have 2 franchise centres is a bad move. Especially when you have to take on a bad contract and a nothing prospect to boot. Just stop with this McDavid to Leafs stuff. The only way it will ever happen is if McDavid demands a trade in 2 years after his NMC kicks in. Then he'll get traded for a fraction of what he's worth because Edmonton won't have much choice in the matter.
A message to Oiler fans, pray that never happens.
