Having a Jarry as a back up making 5.4 million would be way worse.</div></div>
agree im not sure Jarry would be better, just saying a buyout would be dumb
"The cap is going to go up 4-5 million each year for the years ahead" could you link the source for this please?

i agree retaining would be dumb
but a buyout would be really dumb, Ill never count out Ken Holland tho
Saddling McDavids prime with more deadcap would be a shame, and theyll need to resign big pieces aswell

Eller and Copp put up similar numbers this year and Eller costs half the price...
Rakells way better then Anderson and cheaper... why would PIT be the one paying?

I think PIT would still be interested in Chychrun (they really wanted him b4 OTT outbid them last year)
Only problem is futures are off the table, so any deal would have to center around roster players and not sure if OTT wants that

I dont see the point of trying to compete with nearly 10m in dead cap
This seems like an undoing and redoing of the same random UFA signings that didnt work this year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>Poulin, Smith,
I mean really what justification is there to keep playing carter? Love to hear it if you have one.
- theres no one else that plays center... the roster is 23/23 and I think theyre 4/4 on their normal recalls aswell so they only have emergency recalls that can only play in emergency situations
You realize what they did to Smith to right? You can google the article from Post-Gazette about how he outplayed everyone in camp for the 3LD role his first year here.
But nope, down to the AHL. He got 9 games his first year. He played well. 9 games 1 goal 3 apples and a +3.
-this article? https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/penguins/2024/02/20/penguins-pipeline-ty-smith-ahl-ready-nhl-wilkes-barre/stories/202402180141
it says "But he was beaten out in training camp by Pierre-Olivier Joseph"
Smith cant/doesnt play defense, thats why he cleared waivers
You think they let him play.... nope, that was it. No more. But they could find room for POJ? Ludvvig who is arguable the worst defenseman not named Jack Johnson I have ever seen in a penguins uniform.
I mean really. We gave up Marino for that kid.
-Yea Hextall was a terrible GM
But it's not just those 2, it's happened for a long time. Sully played his guys from WBS and then suddenly people in WBS weren't good enough. It is what it is.</div></div>
- This is right but its not because Sully doesnt like them its because no players down there are good enough
check out dobber Poulin is the only half decent guy they have in WBS atm and hes been injured and stuck in the contract jam

Long answer: yes This will be a wild card team at best.
There are too many holes and they refuse to play the youth so not much of a chance fixing it.</div></div>
I'm Curious what you mean by "they refuse to play the youth"? What youth specifically?
Poulin is really the only one and bad injury timing and cap constraints kept him out not coaches
who are the youth you would play?

this is a lot of hassle for PIT just to move from pick 80 to 60

Dont like the EK deal but the rest seem reasonable... but What is the point of this?
If its to compete having 10m in dead cap is idiotic
If its to rebuild then picks/prospects need to be coming in not players

Jarry DET
Even with Rakells bad season, Copp is more expensive and less productive, idk why PIT would want to do that
If youre gonna pay a backup 5m, just keep Jarry and look for a move next year

I dont hate this for either team. from PIT perspective I think OTT could get a little more
Does OTT want to keep Korpisalo? I could see PIT eating that to balance the money
I'd add an extra piece too. something like Accari or a 3rd, maybe Puustinen

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Are you looking at career stats? Seems pretty relevant for a 33 year old! :awesome</div></div>
Doesnt matter what stats you use Smith is as good if not better than Kane in every metric
Last years playoffs: Kane - .41 ppg Smith - .64
This reg season: Kane - .55 Smith - .51
Career reg season: Kane - .66 Smith - .61
Career playoffs: Kane - .63 Smith - .75
Smith: +129 Kane: -50!
Kane is slightly better in reg season, Smith is better in the playoffs and plays defense. Add in Kane being unpopular teammate and having a worse contract and Smith is easily the more valuable player

I honestly don’t think Kane would waive for any team anyways.</div></div>
LMAO Kane is absolutely not worth more than Smith. Same numbers, worse contract, worse teammate
