Hronek at 8 x 7,000,000 might be the most Canucks contract I've seen in my life. Yikes.

Actually just did some research and the closest comparable would be ARZ dealing Kuemper to COL for a 1st, 3rd, and Connor Timmins in 2021. Kuemper was a pending UFA (like Helly), was 31 (Helly is a year younger). Considering that ARZ got that haul for Kuemper without an extension, it is easily fathomable that Helly could get a 1st and Holtz from NJ (if not more pending an extension). So yeah definitely not too far fetched imo.

One thing on the Goodrow front is the personal aspect. How are you going to feel if you have a team that is actively trying to move you and doesn't want you playing? Probably pretty bad. What if a team in a less desirable location says they want you to come and be a mentor and play consistent minutes. That might be tempting enough for him to waive, it's all subjective though.

I think the Rangers would buy him out before giving up "something shiny" like a 1st or even 2nd. Gotta remember that the cap is rising drastically in two years so while you have to eat that now (which honestly isn't a worry for WPG), it becomes far less impactful in years 3/4.

Well apples to apples is something that makes up market value. I don't mind the trade deadline idea, could definitely work as well. As bad as Goodrow has been, I don't think the league views him as a pure cap dump. You could definitely let him redefine himself with minutes and a bottom six role and then flip him for assets later on. It might take a little more work and creativity, but this is how you get more bang for your buck rather than just trading Dillon for a 5th or 6th (which is what he's worth honestly).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WPGSK</b></div><div>Yes re: Ehlers, Lowry and Morrissey. NOT Connor. Connor is almost as bad as Scheifele for playing the wrong way.
You need more than 3 guys playing the right way.
Definitely don't want to lose Nino for nothing. Hoping Chevytakestoomanydaysoff can sign him to an extension. The JETS got him for a 2nd, so he may believe his worth isn't that high and re-signs for a team friendly deal.
Namestikov is a key piece for the fact that he has stated he likes WPG and wants to play there. He played up and down the JETS lineup as soon as the Jets got him and he seem to fit with guys that are not easy to match up with, like Ehlers. The JETS DESPERATELY need guys that are positive about WPG (my hometown, and trust me, saying nice about WPG is challenging, especially from people not born there). Can't discount guys like Nino and Namo who can play up and down the lineup and are positive. WPG NEEDS that. In so many ways.
The team needs a shift and positive, hard working guys are required, even if it is for another year or 2.</div></div>
Every team needs those character guys but you can't compromise your chance at a brighter future to keep them. With the rising cap, the only way a 31 year old Nino signs in WPG is if you absurdly overpay him. Otherwise, he's gone to a contending team. The reason a guy like Namestikov likes playing in WPG is because they keep him around lol. The guy has been a suitcase and probably is tired of finding a new apartment twice a year. 100% agree on finding guys that are positive about WPG, but you need to grow that in your system and by being loyal to younger players, not asking it out of veterans who are on the back third of their careers.
That's where acquiring young talent like Vilardi, Kupari, Holtz, and Swayman could be invaluable. You give those guys the chance to play important minutes and the odds increase that they reward you down the line with loyalty. Along with that, drafting high character players that are born and bred in the organization is paramount. I think Chevy and Co. have done well at this with picks like Barlow and Mcgroarty in recent drafts.

He's far more valuable to Winnipeg than points or anything else.
The JETS need a HUGE culture shift and guys like Nino, Namestikov, Lowry, Ehlers and Morrissey embody that. They play hard, say the right things, etc.</div></div>
Sure, I agree you need veterans to show younger players the way. That's where the core 4 of Connor, Ehlers, Lowry, and Morrissey can contribute. As much as you like Nino, he will walk in FA for nothing if you don't move him now. Also, Namestikov is not a key piece for Winnipeg. He is plugging a roster spot.

Goodrow plus a 3rd is more than "free". Moving Dillon allows Heinola to finally play consistent minutes, and if that doesn't work out, enter Dylan Samberg. Similar to Nino, Dillon at his age and with pending UFA status does not help the Jets in any capacity.

How exactly does Nino at 30 years old and with 1 year remaining on his deal help WPG? In this scenario, he blocks their younger players from playing top 9 and PP minutes. Maximize his value, get an asset and move on, hockey is a business. As for the Jets not wanting Goodrow, I don't think having him in their bottom 6 would be egregious lol. Not like they are strapped for cap and can't bring him in and flip him for assets later on like I mentioned.

24 year old goaltenders that have established themselves as capable starters and a potential elite goaltender in the league aren't worth a 30 year old, pending UFA centerman? Swayman is way more valuable and much more of a guarantee than a 1st round pick in the 22-32 range (which is where Boston's pick would be) . If anyone says no in this deal, it would be Boston lmao (but I think they consider it due to cap constraints).
I agree the Jets don't need bottom pairing d-men but that allows TB to shed $ which maximizes return value for WPG. Myers has 1 year left and can bet let go after that.
Again, I agree that Goodrow would be unlikely to waive for WPG. Although, you never know when a player sees a position that they could benefit from. Goodrow might see WPG as an opportunity to re-establish himself and be moved to a contender later on. Who knows though, I think that deal makes a lot of sense for both teams barring the logistics of a NMC.

For the record it was only Hill & Barbashev. Hill signed for $4.9M x 2 & Barbashev signed for $5M x 5. My analysis was far closer to reality than this manure you call a lineup(I literally nailed Barbashev)!
You have P.O.J scratched, Petry going to a team that's trying to unload aging D $ not take more on, Hanafin taking a meager raise 1 yr from UFA status & $/term are all wrong on Bunting/Shattenkirk/Sprong... You're a clown!</div></div>

Oh yeah you really nailed the barbashev contract (not like you couldn’t have copied it from capfriendly projected salaries). He didn’t even make it to FA, real sharp call on your part!
Bunting signed for a million more and 3 less years, hard to say giving him 3 more years term and a million less is a major miscue. Sprong signed for 450 more thousand, are you actually splitting hairs here?
Just looking over your account and your posts I can see how much of a 🤡 you are. Absolutely disgusting our fanbase has to deal with mid 2010 bandwagons like you. Looks like you’re on your way out though and hopping ship to EDM as soon as McDavid makes them semi relevant 🤣.

A lot of guys are going to take 1 year deals with the notion the cap is going up even more next year.
Also hard pass on Shattenkirk</div></div>
The flat cap is the very reason players like Sprong might take a prove it 1 year deal. Being that he wasn’t even qualified in SEA, I would be shocked to see him get anything over 2 mil AAV.
As for Shattenkirk, yes he’s not the cream of the crop but he’s a veteran and could be relatively cheap. Historically a good puck mover that can produce offense, maybe under the right system he can find success. You can’t honestly say his play in Anaheim was a true testament to his current state as a player, that entire team was checked out by November.

Pens Retool
You can have 3 retained salaries and last I checked Anaheim is only retaining on Rakell (Lindholm is now on the extension he signed with BOS). Unless you're meaning ANA wouldn't consider retaining salary, which I'm sure they would given the particular landscape of a deal (not necessarily this one). The LHD argument is valid, may have been trying to force the Smith issue on that one, he's probably better suited elsewhere.
I also didn't realize that Comtois wasn't qualified and will be a FA. In that case, take both Comtois and Smith away and the deal becomes:
Gibson (1,600,000 retained)
for
2024 1st
2025 5th
Joel Blomqvist
You could argue this isn't enough but I think goalies always tend to get less in these types of deals. I think ANA missed their window to fully capitalize on Gibby's value and this return is definitely reasonable.

The canes ownership/managements propensity to not buy players to improve their team is why they struggle to eliminate good teams in the playoffs. Wouldn’t pay up for Tkachuk and look how that turned out (not saying Schieffle is Tkachuk lol). Same thing with Timo Meier. At some point they have to take a little risk and show their top guys they are willing to surround them with secondary and tertiary talent.

I agree the Hawks will use their cap space strategically. But the extent to which they can do that will be limited. There are only so many teams with a bad enough contract they would be willing to pay assets to offload it. From that group of teams, there are even fewer that even have the necessary assets to make such a deal. Bad teams have the luxury of taking on project players (I.e Mantha) at little to no risk and as TM11 mentioned, they can always flip them for greater assets at a later time. It’s give and take, the Hawks aren’t just going to be able to hold the league hostage and get 10 first rounders for every bad contract lol.

There is literally no surgery that has a propensity for long NHL careers, I agree that body’s do break down. However, looking at Lehners playstyle, he’s deep in his net, plays big, and has elite vision and pucktracking to make up for his lack of athleticism. If it were an extremely athletic goalie (I.e MAF) that had these surgeries, I would be much more likely or believe they were unable to rebound.
All I’m saying is until VGK comes out and says then don’t believe Lehner can play again, we can’t rule anything out as an absolute (especially when Pierre Dorion is your GM)
