Sid gets his 4th

Created by: SpankyGeezus
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2023
Published: Jun. 30, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
-Jarry re-signing has more to do with the lack of capable goalies available in FA than with his play. I don't see Jarry being offered a deal where he can be the starter on a competitive team more lucratively than this (4,750,000 might even be an overpay). Yes, there are options at G via the trade market but the Pens need to use draft capital to improve other areas and don't have more assets to give for a net-minder. Aside from Helly, it could be argued that Jarry (when healthy) is equally as effective as any other goalie being made available on the market.

Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Kähkönen, Kaapo
  2. Sturm, Nico
  3. 2024 6th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
PIT gets a bit of a question mark in net that could start as a 1B. Kahkonen struggled last year but could find his game under a different structure. Sturm is a big bodied bottom 6 center that can help PIT's depth down the middle.
SJS
  1. DeSmith, Casey
  2. Petry, Jeff
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Pens offload Petry's contract and send back an NHL caliber backup capable of 15-20 starts. SJS get a 2024 2nd that becomes a 1st in 2024 or 2025 (Pens choice) if PIT reaches the ECF.
2.
PIT
  1. Hanifin, Noah
Additional Details:
Hanifin approves a sign & trade to PIT and inks an 8 x 6,500,000 extension.
CGY
  1. Poulin, Samuel
  2. 2024 1st round pick (PIT)
  3. 2025 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Flames acquire a 2024 1st and 2025 second for a pending FA. They also acquire a former first round pick in Poulin who has faced his fair share of mental health struggles. Reuniting with a great friend in Jakob Pelletier might do wonders for a young player with upside.
**If the Pens make the ECF, they would automatically be giving SJS their 2025 1st as their 2024 pick was used in this Hanifin deal**
3.
PIT
  1. 2024 7th round pick (MIN)
MIN
  1. Ruhwedel, Chad
Additional Details:
Sent anywhere that needs a depth D for cheap and can give up a low-end asset.

Sprong will get more $ based off the year he had. Bunting gets more as well and less term.

A lot of guys are going to take 1 year deals with the notion the cap is going up even more next year.

Also hard pass on Shattenkirk

This person can't be real. This is so bad!

Coming from the guy who’s solution for the Pens as an Armchair GM was to sign every VGK pending UFA to a 5x5 😂. Try to make it less obvious you started causally watching hockey in 2017

One of POJ or Smith will be the odd man out. I would venture to say the one who hasn’t earned regular minutes by mid season gets flipped for futures. It’s tough, I like them both but realistically don’t see them both playing consistently under Sully.

The flat cap is the very reason players like Sprong might take a prove it 1 year deal. Being that he wasn’t even qualified in SEA, I would be shocked to see him get anything over 2 mil AAV.

As for Shattenkirk, yes he’s not the cream of the crop but he’s a veteran and could be relatively cheap. Historically a good puck mover that can produce offense, maybe under the right system he can find success. You can’t honestly say his play in Anaheim was a true testament to his current state as a player, that entire team was checked out by November.

I hear what you're saying but I think both would play over Rutta

How desperate are you? LOL
For the record it was only Hill & Barbashev. Hill signed for $4.9M x 2 & Barbashev signed for $5M x 5. My analysis was far closer to reality than this manure you call a lineup(I literally nailed Barbashev)!
You have P.O.J scratched, Petry going to a team that's trying to unload aging D $ not take more on, Hanafin taking a meager raise 1 yr from UFA status & $/term are all wrong on Bunting/Shattenkirk/Sprong... You're a clown!

It’s literally been reported that PIT and SJS sharks have been in talks surrounding a Petry deal you absolute mongoloid 😂.

Oh yeah you really nailed the barbashev contract (not like you couldn’t have copied it from capfriendly projected salaries). He didn’t even make it to FA, real sharp call on your part!

Bunting signed for a million more and 3 less years, hard to say giving him 3 more years term and a million less is a major miscue. Sprong signed for 450 more thousand, are you actually splitting hairs here?

Just looking over your account and your posts I can see how much of a 🤡 you are. Absolutely disgusting our fanbase has to deal with mid 2010 bandwagons like you. Looks like you’re on your way out though and hopping ship to EDM as soon as McDavid makes them semi relevant 🤣.

Have a good day dude, let me know which team you hop ship to in another 5 year! (I’m guessing Chicago and Bedard will be your fav player!)
