none of them want this job lol. Its not the same time horizon as GM. young talent for a coach means high volatility and unpredictability. Most vet coaches want something more stable. Additionally, the sabres have a meddlesome owner who is penny pinching.

yeah thats ottawa i was talking about the sabres lol. Im not disagreeing with your valuation, I just dont think its something the Sabres consider this year.

Trade Down Pricing
Sabres have a history of trading up for guys they really like so it wouldn't surprise me but I think the general feeling for this draft class is lukewarm at best. Id be shocked if they really needed that one spot jump for a guy they like but you never know.

I know this much, if they make the playoffs, it's going to be in the most hilariously entertaining bass ackwards fashion, and I'm excited to see how it happens lol

Greenway-Faksa-Girgensons

Agreed but you can't ask krebs to carry both kulich and skinner defensively. Faksa has a much longer track record of being able to handle that. Its possible that under Ruff, Krebs eventually over takes Faksa, but Imo this is how hed start it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cornbreadnhl</b></div><div>Are buffalo fans happy with Ruff coming back? Wouldn't Berube been a better choice?</div></div>
I agree Berube would have been better, but Im happy with it. The team is in the crapper reputation wise. they needed some luck to turn things around, and it just so happens that Ruff, who is a solid coach in general, has ties to the area. Thats the kind of break they needed. He's not perfect, but it's an upgrade.
Also, I think Berube is waiting to see what happens with other playoff teams coaches. And if youre the Sabres, you dont want to wait too long. You'd almost certainly lose the musical chairs game once other more lucrative jobs open up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Pretty reasonable</div></div>
My mildly hot take is if we assume coaching held them back, then this lineup under ruff should remain competitive for longer than 10 mins/early november so that by the time rumours and player movement start up in Dec/Jan, the Sabres will come off some no trade lists and thats when we will see the bigger move.

incredibly unlikely they add another top 4 d-man. That would require pushing samulesson to third pair which they wont do.

Because he doesn't care about that. THe guy turned down a trade to LA the summer he was dealt to buffalo. For him, its about proximity to home (markham/toronto).

no no, he's "only" the owner. Dawg im not trying to be mean but are you being intentionally dense? You dont think the owner would intervene to force this trade to happen? Don't you remember the ROR return? simply because he didnt want to pay O'Reilly's bonus cause of comments he said in locker room clean out.
Owners influence decisions all the time.

I dont disagree. But you and I both know if Terry gets the chance to save 22 mil off the top moving this contract he's not going to hesitate over a silly little thing like "it makes the team worse"

I could live with that. Is that a hunch or is there a heavy roomer from some internal source you latched on to?</div></div>
Chad D has hinted at this. His name has come up a few times so theres probably some smoke. Obviously, he still has to say yes so tiny little wrinkle there.

They’re not in the market for a top six wing or top 4 D
It’s going to be a two way 3C, 4th line tough guy and maybe 3rd pair/7th d man

Small but big
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Njdev4</b></div><div>Marino is only 26 yrs old n has 3 yrs left on his contract. I added that bc I saw a lot of sabres n devils fan agreeing that would b a hockey trade n fill both of our needs.
I only put Chicago bc they have the space. Pretty much give a 3rd to any team willing to take on palats contract. Doesn't matter where he goes.
Siegs would b on the 3rd pair if we got zadorov n Samuelson. I can't see having him on the 3rd pair making $3.4 so Id put bahl in the position n trade him for a player who still has some potential n could possibly just need a change of scenery. It's worth a shot</div></div>
Huh younger than I thought my bad. I’d do it, the Sabres seem to like Sammy quite a bit though

Not arguing value here but I think Samuelssons age keeps him a sabre unless it’s a swap for someone in that same age range
