This isn't an academic paper or a court of law, my wording doesn't matter nearly as much as your incessant need to dismiss my question because of how i feel about the team. Anyone who isn't trolling could've seen in context what I meant when I said right instead of freedom to ask a question regardless of how i feel about the team.

I care/am curious about their (CuyahogaKid) thought process, that's independent of the team. See how you asked cause you were curious?

They are 1 pt back of toronto, but the leafs have 3 games in hand. They are 3 pts back of tampa, with the same amount of games played. They are more or less in the same position they were last year. Except they are playing a much worse brand of hockey. Tonight was their best game of the season.

The team is not getting better, individuals will get better on account of being older, but the team itself is a poorly run franchise by a bad owner and is in no way shape or form a threat to win a championship any time soon.

They are far more likely to miss the playoffs this year than make it, that's not even really up for debate at this point. They'll need a small miracle. Which of course, is what buffalo sports are famous for lol.

Yeah sure, teams like Detroit and Washington are better but that just means theres going to be more mediocrity from like teams 6-11 in the conference and they'll take points off on another.

It probably will be higher. Even if I grant your premise, that still requires the Sabres to play at a 102 pt pace for 47 games. That's not happening this year.

14 games til christmas break, assume they get there with like a 16-15-4, that's 36 points after 35 games. the cut off isn't going to be low 90s like last year, there are better teams in the division now like detroit. Even if I generously put it at 95, that would require them to pick up 59 or 60 points in the final 47 games.

This is a near 105 pt pace the rest of the season. Even healthy, this team is nowhere near that, otherwise they wouldn't be in this mess to begin with. Erik Johnson, Okposo, Clifton and Girgensons are going to continue receiving regular ice time. That's already enough of a problem before you factor in core players taking a huge step back. Dahlin looks like he's playing for Ralph Krueger.

The best thing they can do right now is take the time to help them find their game again so that they don't run into the same problem next year, hopefully under a different coach.

Why is the age thing a factor? The Devils were, at least up until the deadline, the youngest team in the nhl last year. It's a young players game. And if you asked most sabres fans to make a list of the 5 worst sabres right now, how many do you think would in any order have okposo, EJ, Girgensons and/or clifton on that list? Those are some of the oldest guys. A team falls apart like this after getting close last year is likely more than just "they are young".

This is true of basically every rebuild and is usually resolved by trading anywhere between a few or many of them for established players, something this org. failed to do. The problems with this team arent just on the periphery. Cozens, samuelsson, dahlin and power have all been different degrees of terrible. The GM cleverly signed all of them to long term deals before making sure they were any good lol.
