Yes, I'd agree with that as well. Last thing the Leafs need to do is stengthen their offense. They don't have enough players that can play good physical defense on both sides of the ice. Montreal physically overwhelmed them and MTL is not a great team; a B+ team IMO. Leafs have built the team and the system around this fast dynamic offensive style of hockey, and while fun to watch, it's a recipe for failure in the playoffs when teams get much more physical, defensively stout, and goaltending stands on its head. If you want that strong of a top 6, you have to have an incredibly strong shut down defense backing it up. Think about the Hawks cups last decade, they have a very strong top 6 with Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa, Teravainen, Saad etc. but they also had a awesome defensive allowing those players to overwhelm with breakouts with guys like Jammer, Seabrook, Keith, Buf, Campbell, etc., and great offensive defenders in the bottom 6 namely Shaw, Bickell, Kruger, Versteeg, Vermette, Handzus and Carcillo (who nobody wanted to fight) plus awesome goaltending with Crawford and Niemi.

Toronto should be focused solely on defensive players (both offense and d men) and goalies. Think De Haan type of player (younger healthier version then what he is now), and up front a guy like Kampf or Carpenter or Connolly to put it in Hawks speak or pick up Saad who is exactly the type of guy they need on the wing of Marner, Matthews, Nylander.
