Because they would re-sign him if they made the trade. It's not a deal they make as a rental. And assuming Boqvist is the next Karlsson is an unlikely outcome.

It means why waste your time guessing what they'll trade back for Pokka to not take TVR. Probably nothing. Hawks will probably add a pick as well. Just not worth guessing. Irrelevant to what the roster will look like.

Then you bring down Kempny AAV. Fact of the matter is that will probably be the roster next year. Maybe move on from Campbell.

If Darling gets market rate and he likes the team that is involved in the sign and trade then he will likely do it. Anyway, I can see the Hawks trying to move Crawford. Darling fits more into this second wave of players coming along and will be had for cheaper, is a local kid and will probably be a top 5 goalie with consistent starts. Crawford has been average since his surgery. He's one more random injury away from Chicago having a serious goaltending problem if Darling moves along to another team.

They aren't too cap strapped to resign Panik. It's not similar to the Saad situation at all. As far as Darling, if its a deal that results in a sign and trade then yeah a team will trade a pick to get it done. Why wait until he's a UFA and there are way more teams in the bidding.

Panik isn't going to be traded. Hawks found something with him. And yeah, Crawford could be moved to sign Darling at 3-4 years for 3.5-4m aav. Matter of fact, I would prefer it. But Crawford has a NMC and might not want to go to a team like Carolina who needs a goalie, and Carolina has the cap space to take on Kruger and sign Darling.

The Hawks will have the rights to Darling. Prior to July 1. Sharp isn't coming back. Oduya I doubt is back. Hawks have too much youth coming on to block spots for guys that fans have nostalgia with.

The Toews line was down last season. Moving Kaner up with the young kid on LW maybe gets Tazer going offensively to the tune of his paycheck. The second line has the makings of another good season. The third would be a pretty good shut down trio, and the fourth, well they may get 5-6 TOI.</i></div></div>
They can even move a defenseman and stash the return in the minors if its a player or if its a pick then thats the same result, cap space. No reason to run 8 defense and Gus shouldn't be in RFD. I think Rozy was resigned for expansion reasons, so maybe they keep 8 and he never plays. Gus is the true 7 in that case. Then they move Pokka for another young forward. In the end, they have that fourth line to begin the year because it's the cheapest as most of the RFD prospects have higher AAV, so Bowman can maximize TDL cap space and then they really have a whole bunch of options heading into the playoffs. That 4th line would be gone by TDL imo. By the beginning of spring you could see a bottom 6 of

The math just doesn't work out to give Saad his 5m/yr for 5 years that he probably wants and keep Seabrook next year while paying Crawford 6m/yr and having a starter caliber goaltender in Darling making peanuts. The forward depth takes a little hit but the D depth is great and gives the kids like Johns, Pokka, Reilly sheltered minutes while Oduya signs for 4m/yr for 2 years and gives them time to develop. That's a team that can repeat imo. Not sure they can with the D depth they'd have with Crow in net. Maybe they'd want more for Sutter, idk. Maybe a 3rd round pick or a lottery ticket prospect?

Tyler Johnson and Palat bridged for 3.5M. I wouldn't put it out of the realm Saad wants to help the team out. It wouldn't let me put Reilly at 925k. Rundblad just because Paliotta has no real professional experience and could use AHL time. Pokka and Rundblad are interchangeable. I don't think it changes the composition of the team too much. Just wanted to see how the $ would work.
