The whole team is having a down year, JG while not getting points is one guy that shows up every game and is a positive for them. And Lou is not going to trade someone he moved all those assets for, i.e. Palmeri who has been horrible.

I think we can get a 3rd for Cogliano. If not, it's worth keeping him even without the playoffs as his work ethic is good for our young players to see.

From the Flames perspective, I like these deals. I think they are pretty fair for both sides.
Well done!

How are you going to pick Paul up and then not put him back with Mangiapane?? Haha
I’d do that late Florida second. That gets accepted.

I hope Paul is extended by the Sens but that's about his current value, maybe with a depth prospect on top of it.
If he is traded I hope he comes back to sign as a UFA. Ottawa needs solid vets and Paul now 26 y/o is developing into that

Lineup
(Im assuming you did not set the lines here which is ironic to the title, might want to edit that)
Oddly enough I made a post the other day about what I thought the best line combo's were based on underlying numbers (<a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/544082">here</a>) and outside of the 4th line (I had Ruzicka over Lewis) that is what was ran last night. I think these current lines should be kept up until the TDL then we acquire a winger for the Monahan line and move Lucic back to the 4th

I think Ottawa pulls the trigger on that if they can’t find a 2nd elsewhere. Not the ideal return for Paul but not terrible either.

I've seen numerous people suggest that he could be worth as much as a second. Absolute beast and can play anywhere. If he keeps playing like he did last night and get back to the level he was at last season he could most definitely fetch a second.

If Nick Paul is asking Ottawa for more than $2.5M to extend then Ottawa should be shopping him and I would say this is a realistic return.

Never even thought of this. It’s not bad. I think Calgary adds but not much just cause of the extra year and they have almost the same cap hit. But I think the pens much rather pay that much for a 3C than a guy playing on their 3LW

Pens dont want that extra year on Backlund, so they pass. The idea wasnt bad though.

Drop the KO retention, and maybe it would be a deal. With the retention you’ve made Monahan effectively a 9M player for next season (I know it doesn’t actually work that way, but my brain can’t switch that off)...</div></div> Great conversation, none of us can predict the future but we can look at the past to give us a clue.
Prior to this season Sean was playing with Gaudreau up to 70% of the time.
Now he is paired with Pitlick, Dube, Lucic, Lewis, Richardson who have a total of 17 goals among them YTD, contrast that with Gaudreau who has 15 on his own.
Add in that his ice time has been reduced every year since 2017-'18 from 19:01 19;03 18:06, 17:41 to 14:43 this year.
So inferior line mates coupled with a 25% reduction in his ice time has certainly handcuffed his offensive output (does this sound like Skinner?)
Those are certainly factors to consider why he could easily rebound in Buffalo.
No onto the trade, Over all IMO the trade favors Calgary even if Girgensons was excluded as Calgary is saving $3,000,000 while getting a player who could replace Sean and is a solid locker room guy.
On the other hand I think management will show respect to Okposo and not trade him.
He moved his family here when he was traded and silently suffered through 2 years of fourth line minutes playing for Krueger
Girgensons and Okposo should not be considered fourth line players this year.
They are both on pace to 17 goals. and each have as many goals as top line forwards as Suzuki, Kane and Hall.
Only 107 forwards have more goals than they YTD.
I think Monahan would be a good player to pick up, management may not want to move Okposo.
If Calgary was considering this and Buffalo was considering trading Okposo, then take Girgensons out of the deal.
Alternatively, trade Hinostroza for Monahan and Pitlick, as he has more goals than Monahan and Pitlick combined and this would save Calgary nearly $7,000,000 salary.
Bottom line, getting Monahan would be a great move, Okposo may take a home town contract in two years and retire a Sabre.
Well that is my tome for the day.
