Habs Laine Scenario
No shot Columbus does that, they have loads of cap space and no need for defensemen right now. Even removing the retention they easily decline. No reason to sell low on Laine after he missed 80% of the season to injury.

Habs Laine Scenario
I do think it's much more likely they hold Laine (by a wide margin). But I do also think that there is a scenario where the new GM wants to clean house. I am under the impression that this is the scenario that is playing out. It's hard to be certain about what Columbus will do right now when we don't even know who is leading their front office.
As for Harris and Montreal's return. Montreal's former scouting director works in Columbus. Drafted Harris and likes him a lot. Montreal has more picks to turn over to complement. Hard to settle on a sufficient return when Laine has had such a strange playing career.

It is a high risk high reward scenario. Laine, if healthy, is the best player in the deal. Boqvist is also very good but injuries have hampered his development. I just think that Orlov kind of kills the deal bc his term. Just not a fit.

Columbus unlikely to spend assets to acquire a redundant soft RHD. Liljegren has value, just not to the Jackets.

CBJ Is This Enough
They want more than he will ever be worth to another team. It’s best to try to find the similar type of player somewhere else, on a team that would take the assets if you need that guy so badly.

I don't want NSH to trade for Marner. I don't want NSH to trade Evangelista. I think Minten gets vastly overrated by Leafs fans.
Even accounting for all that, TOR is getting ripped off here.

CAR wants Guentzel long term so
Let’s see…Laine that when healthy is nearly a point a game player who is only signed 2 more yrs or a bust player in KK who is signed to a ridiculous term and is maybe half the player Laine is, hmmm…no we are good with Laine. Face it, you ain’t dumping KK without paying some team a ridiculous price.

CAR having cap problems isn't NSH's problem. Preds decline.

Jackets decline. No need for KK. Sillinger is younger, better, and cheaper and fills the same role. Nothing in that package worth retaining on gudbranson and trading laine for

Kuznetsov for provorov would be an awful return.

Would rather trade provorov at the trade deadline and try to get a first for him. Half retained for a second is probably worst case for him at the deadline

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kysovich</b></div><div>In my opinion, Columbus is an overcrowded mess, they need to do something.... to move in the right direction... or they going to lose all those valuable prospects... there are only so many spots on the team... just like the Kings starting to loose their high-valued prospects if they don't move them for the right fit...</div></div>
So they should trade the actual best player on the team for some late picks, a bust, a C-grade-at-best prospect, and a Finnish guy with an approximately .7% chance of coming to North America? And that's ignoring the fact he's got a full NMC and no interest in moving anyway. He's the player you make all the other moves around, not the one you move out. I mean I know you're a Kings fan so you don't understand asset management after watching Blake fumble the bag, but come on. You don't get to be condescending like "Columbus is such a mess and I'm just trying to help them" then propose a trade that makes them actively worse.
Also, Werenski and DuBois do not like each other, and Mr. Dubious is your problem for most of the next decade.

I do think Laine could be a fantastic fit with CAR. If I were CBJ, I’d be exploring making something work, even with retention.
But yes - Fast is an expiring B4 guy, and JK is a B6 with too much term (I.e. the opposite). The 1st is going to be late, so solid but just OK.

I'd rather hold on to Laine in hopes of a rebound for now than to take on the KK anchor. 28OA and a bottom six winger don't make up the difference for me (and I like Fast a lot).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingExLeafs</b></div><div>You realize the owner has to approve an offer sheet and he is still there, right?</div></div>
That's one of the most desperate, uneducated takes I've ever seen. McConnell is completely hands off. If you think he's going to go to the new GM and try to influence him to go after Marner you're just being silly.

You realize the guy who made that offer was fired, right? Plus the aforementioned two high priced wingers that have since joined the roster. $30M on 3 wingers is not good roster construction,
