Why would Tkachuk get 80M? He hasn't earned that. He should not get more than Point.
Im not hoping at all, I think logically</div></div>
Ok, then 1 year 3Mish. That's not really changing how much cap is available next year by much.
Point plays for Tampa. Huge difference in taxes. Tkachuk loses almost half his check in Calgary, while Point only loses 40% playing in Tampa. A 9.5M contract in Tampa is about worth a 10.75M contract in Calgary. Tampa & Florida are always gonna have cheaper player contracts compared to the rest of the league. Not contracts you should look at for comparison, unless you are one of those low tax teams.

JG walking would force the flames to re-tool or re-build in which case they're not paying to move out contracts.
Team is not a playoff team without JG, especially if you're not getting another big FA to replace him.</div></div>
Why would it force a rebuild or retool lol? You'd still have a good team. Plenty of promising young guys like Pelletier to step up. You're still in a weak division too.
Trading Monahan would let you sign an additional FA or trade for someone.

You gave Kylington a horrible contract. Give him 2.5M for 1 year then he can prove he is worth more while Calgary retains his rights. You also overpaid Gudbranson a bit and Tkachuk could also be paid less too</div></div>
How is 3.5M horrible lol? Maybe he'll get a little less, but he's got arbitration. Ethan Bear got 2M last year and he's had a better year than him. Same with Fabbro who got 2.4M & Bean who got 2.3M. I'd say around 3M.
I doubt Tkachuk gets less than 10M. His brother just got 8.3M and he's not nearly as good as Matt. You're gonna be buying up a lot of UFA years too.
It seems like you're just hoping everyone signs hometown discounts with your team.

If they didn't move him they'd actually be over the cap right now by a little bit. I think they'd try to keep that cap flexibility before the season starts.
It's a bit harder to move a 6M contract in-season compared to off season also.

So you're not cap strapped and have space to make moves if necessary during the season.

Who is even talking about a goalie? McCabe is a defenceman. Leddy is a defenceman.

Pens have 29M in cap space next year lol. Fifth most in the league.
If Pettersson is avaliable for that cheap there will be more teams interested in a young d man with term. I doubt it would be only a 3rd.

Leddy was a 30 year old d man with a 5.5M cap hit you traded futures for

He did. He said McCabe had no value and then edited his comment.
What do you think Pettersson is gonna go for? Can't imagine you are going to get him cheap. D men with term are valuable.

Of course the 3 team trade list is a big deal. Only 3 teams can trade for him instead of multiple teams. What the Sharks would get would be limited to what those teams would be offering. Just like when the Sabres traded Hall last year. The return was weaker because Hall could decide where he wanted to go.

Hertl? Maybe a 3rd team to flip him to if he's 100% not resigning in San Jose.

It's only 2.5M for a guy that was at .53 PPG last season. Had 17 points in 28 games under Granato too. I don't really see how that's "committing this much". Seems pretty fair to me. Close to the Chytil deal. It's not like he's making 4.4M.
2.5M is a pretty easy contract to bury anyways.

Ducks decline.</div></div>
How do you not understand what 5 years mean? Why do you think you have to be contending for the cup right away?
You're giving up Drysdale, Comtois, and probably a pick around 8-16. You could even have it protected top 8. Getting Eichel while keeping Zegras/McTavish would be a huge win.
Think you're overrating what you're giving up a bit.

We're currently almost as crummy, but we've already started assembling the roster (Comtois, Tracey, Lundestrom, Zegras, McTavish, Perreault, Colangelo, Drysdale, etc.) that will be very good in the not-too-distant future.
Having "Eichel for five years though" is meaningless because the first two years we wouldn't be anywhere close to a playoff spot having given up these prime young players (incl the 2022 first-round draft pick) and there's no assurance we'd be better off in years 3-5 with players chosen in later drafts.</div></div>
Having Eichel for five years is meaningless? Lol ok. Ducks are in a crappy division. You'd probably be contending for a spot with him immediately.

Anaheim probably won't get another opportunity to get a player like Eichel in a trade.
