I don't see how the Minn trade is even close to fair. I think you might be over valuing the Bruins players. Minnesota would be giving up the better goalie and players by far.

DK + Mrazek = OVER CAP
Even though its tough to see how Mantha would be used, he will crack the lineup next year. The end of the year & Playoffs show how much Detroit needed him in rather then a scratch. More then Likely Mrazek will come in around $4-4.25M. That puts them under the CAP. Also, Detroit will attempt to show that Danny D. is similar to Ericsson and push to sign him at $4.5. It is still possible that either Nyquist or Tatar gets put on the end of the fishing pole.

That doesn't get you Shattenkirk... It definitely does not even come close to their 2nd round pick and Shattenkirk. Ericsson wont be bought out... but we all wish he would be.

Trading dead weight with bottom pickes for higher picks
The header itself says everything for this "idea" you have. Your trading dead weight and bad picks for better picks... tell me how any team wants to do this... IF Detroit offers you Howard, Franzen and Ericcson with the next 3 years of 7th round picks for your next 3 years of 3rd round picks, are you taking that? Its stupid and your header alone points out how stupid this is.

I'm not going to lie, if I were Colorado and you offered me this, I would ask you to make the 2017 2nd rounder into a 2017 first rounder and probably take the deal... in a video game. If we are talking real life, I would tell you to get lost. Your only offering picks up with this trade. Not a ton of value here. Washington's pick will probably end up being around the 60th in the draft. Montreal should actually be decent next season so I would see that 1st pick being around 20th overall at best. making their 2nd round pick around 50th. Picks 15-30 are easily 1-2 years of development and pick 50 or higher could take a few more years on that. Unless you get one of those rare gems that falls through other teams cracks. Chances of replacing Duchene with one of those picks is very minimal. Not worth it.

Calgary Flames with Kucherov
Not too bad. I don't think Wideman is really going to get you a 3rd round pick, but dumping him is probably the right idea. If I were Tampa (with a little more research), I would be interested in the trade. I don't know if they have the room though to let Kucherov go and take on a big contract. Tampa will probably attempt to move Bishop, which would give them enough room to sign Kucherov. However, a first round pick and a Top 10 in the league Dman last season seems to be a good idea for a team that already has a pretty good offense. Gio could really assist the Tampa blueline.

"If Only" is so right here. If Only Colorado wanted to give up a player to Detroit and get basically nothing in return... If Only Toronto wanted to unload a bad goalie contract in Bernier just to take on another bad goalie contract... Not bad for an "if only" though

Lineup Prediction
I think you have the guys dressing every night correct, but the lines are not what Blashill will have. Marchenko is not a first pair guy... more like 5-6. I think Larkin, Zetterberg and Abdelkader will be a line for the fact that they were each at their best last year when together. The Wings have too many natural Centers, which isn't a problem, but Helm, Sheahan and Vanek will probably make up the 3rd line. Youll see Glendening, Miller, Ott, Jurco and AA sharing 4th line play. With AA probably getting moved around within lines depending on situational needs.

DRW More Messing Around
You would protect Pulkinnen and Smith in an expansion draft? Really? Why? Smith will be a free agent next year and I don't even see Detroit resigning him. They seem to have a hard time even putting him in the lineup. Green might not be amazing, but the Wings would lose him and he is one of their top defenseman. Your over valuing Pulkinnen. He has 20 points in 70 NHL games. He might be great in the AHL, but he just cant hang in the NHL with regards to his expectations.

Upgrade Defense...no, not Fowler, Lindholm, or Barrie
I have no idea how you create "your" value of a hockey player... but its pretty bad. Don't use it anymore.
1. Marchenko on the first pairing? He has no physical play and no scoring ability... Detroit is still trying to figure out how to keep him as a 5-6 defenseman.
2.Brendan Smith line pairing 2 with Mike Green? Two guys who jump into plays constantly. Let me know who's playing D on that pairing.
3. Kronwall wont play more then 40-50 games on his aged body, so your Defense is basically Ellis and Green and 5 "other" 7th D bodies...
4. Ericsson will never get bought out. Holland is too loyal. Sadly this is probably the only move you have that would actually help the team.
5. Dekeyser is the best shutdown Defenseman the Wings have. I don't see who is killing Penalties for you this year. No one here is blocking a shot.
Overall bad choices

Red Wings with Shatty
LOL St Louis said Shattenkirk for Larkin and a pick during the draft. You think your going to pull this off as is? Drop the third round pick you get from St Louis and add some stuff to what Detroit gives up. I would be willing to bet "IF" Detroit went after Shattenkirk it would be more like *Shattenkirk for Tatar, Jurco, Bertuzzi & 2017 3rd round pick*. Your trade here is way too lopsided even if St Louis wasn't over valuing Shattenkirk.
Ottawa does not want Jimmy Howard for a 2nd round pick. They have Anderson and Hammond locked up for 2 years each at $5.5 together. They might give you a 6th or 7th rounder and ask you to take a bad contract in return, but they don't really have on either. They have no use for Howard so they are not buying him with a 2nd round pick. Its a favor from any team to take Howard for nothing in return.
Lastly, Ericsson is not being bought out. Holland is too loyal. Everyone dreams about Ericsson being bought out, but I am sure Franzen or Howard would happen first. Also, the Wings already had a chance this year to buy him out and didn't do so. It just wont happen.

I don't know how much hockey you watch, but you should watch more.
There aren't many guys in the league who are not an upgrade from what Detroit has. He will definitely eat up first line minutes in most situations. Compare him and Mike Green (who was the best defensemen the Wings had last year). Both had 19:46 of TOI/game over the year. Hamilton had .52 PPG and 27 shifts/game with 190 shots. Mike Green had .47 PPG, 25 shifts/game with 124 shots. Compare Hamilton to any other Wing, he would be on the first line and a good top Dman. Everyone else is trying to trade for Trouba, who again is good, but not really a top Dman. He would be another Dekeyser. More of a shutdown role, not necessarily adding to the offense.
Trade wise though, I think Detroit is giving up a little too much. Id be aiming for Giordono with what Detroit is offering even if you had to throw in one more prospect.

Way over valuing Trouba.... Back it down a notch. Marchenko is a 4th or 5th defenseman in WPG. Sheahan is a 2nd line Center and Nyquist is first line with Wheeler. Then a first round pick to. WPG would be all over this trade in a heartbeat. You really haven't made Detroit any better.

2nd, Pulk wouldnt sign for 800k, ever
3rd, neither would wisnewski, even being bought out, he can get more like 2.5, similar to vanek
no cap space making none of this possible</i></div></div>
I Agree for the first two points for sure. I think Dekeyser for sure can make north of $5M, Mrazek struggled last season and that could hurt his value. However, Detroit has a great contract in Howard so that ends up helping Mrazek's case. Mrazek just has to prove he is similar to Howard in arbitration and he will get atleast $4.5-5M. Pulkkinen probably wants over a million, but also wants a guarantee that he will be in the NHL this year. He has been so good in the AHL that other teams would jump on him. I think he is a player they could move. He would easily play a 2nd or 3rd line roll on a fair share of NHL teams. Not so much in Detroit. As for Wisnewski, he has a lot to prove. You might be able to convince him to play for maybe a 1 year $2M deal (he is already getting paid by another team too). Prove himself again and then move on to another team for more money again.
Overall though, Ericsson isn't going anywhere, even though everyone but Holland, Zetterberg and Kronwall hate his play. so the CAP is basically blown out here.

They just committed to both Nielson and Helm to be Centers. If Helm signed a 5 year deal, that means Detroit gave him what he wanted with regards to position and line. They wont go after a Center if they have already committed to 3 guaranteed centers.
