Dzingel is too bad defensively for me to find a spot to fit him on this team. Hes a good offensive option no doubt, but I like all the top 9 wingers over him and couldn't warrant taking a defensive liability for the 4th line.

Buchnevich was initially on the team, but I took him off to make cap space for Zibenijad. If I had more space he would be on there. Despite having decent production for a player of his ice-time Foegele really isn't that good at pushing the play 5on5. And he's really not good on special teams.

Hathaway might be genuinely one of the forward PKers in the league. In 86 minutes of short-handed play he's been on the ice for only 5 goals against. Additionally, his xGA was 3.73 during that time period. For comparison, Brendan Dillon on the same team was also 3.73 but in only 27 minutes of PK time.
Looking at the player isolate data compiled by Jfresh on twitter he's in the top 1% of all players for WAR on the PK.

This team has a clear top line that I like a lot. The middle 6 is ok, I don't think it would perform quite aswell as expectation. Defense corps is absolutely sexy. Hamilton is the best defensemen in the league and putting him on a pairing with Fox would be unreal in all zones. Slavin and Pesce should help cover for the elite offensive tendencies of Carlson and Deangelo. Goaltending doesn't have proven starters but I believe the capability of those two as a tandem.

Maybe I could switch some money around to put Gavrikov in over Dermott, but its not a big upgrade. Peeke is total nonsense though. Hes played 22 NHL games and hasn't been a significant factor in any area.

But my question is: why the lines like that? Might as well have the better RW on the first line and then stick Bergy with them for the hell of it</div></div>
I was trying to keep one goal scorer/shoot first player per line. Matthews and Pasta being the guys that fill that role.
You are probably going to disagree with me here, but I prefer Matthews to Bergeron.
As a result, I keep Matthews up top and put Marner with him, versus bringing both Pasta and Matthews on the same line. Tbh, the top 6 or this team is relatively interchangeable from a coaching perspective. The Bergeron line could easily be #1, especially if you switch Bjorkstrand and Marchand.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>CBJ has the best defense core of these 3 teams, you took 1 guy.
TOR has the worst you took 3.
I have no words for such "logic"</div></div>
Well this is taking individual players not the whole team defense. Muzzin is objectively one of the best six defensemen on these three teams so that's not controversial at all.
As for the other two, you have to remember that this is including the salary cap. If there is no cap would I have taken Torey Krug over Tyson Barrie and Ryan Murray over Travis Dermott? Yeah I probably would. But that would've costed me way more in salary than would be worth it. Travis Dermott is excellent at shot suppression and Tyson Barrie is one year removed from playing 25 minutes a night and leading the Avs blueline. Furthermore, for my money, Barrie is the best powerplay quarterback for all three teams, regardless of salary.
Thus, I agree that it might look odd that I have 3 leafs on my blueline, but there's strong rationale for each one. Especially considering Barrie + Dermott cost me roughly 3.5 Million combined.
Ultimately, you could make your own team and not take any Leafs defensemen, but that's your opinion. I don't think there's necessarily anything objectively wrong with the way Ive constructed the blueline.

Yea but Anderson is only one year removed from playing quite well so I haven't given up on him yet. I like his play style a lot. Also one of the best PKers in the league.
and I'm pretty meh about Werenski. He's simply not great in his own end and I don't think the offensive boost is enough to make me want to take him over Jones.

TBL-NYI-FLA
TBL - 9 players, FLA - 6 players, NYI - 5 players
Here it is... the best team I have made so far when combining three teams. The forward corps is ridiculously stacked. The third and fourth lines are nuts. Having Barkov as a 3rd centre might sound like a hot take but I like Cirelli as a two-way player a lot more.
The Defense is a bunch of my hipster picks. Toews & Weegar are two of the hidden gems around the league. Elite top-pairing defensemen that are hardly known by anyone. Cernak is an excellent PKer and should be a good balance playing with Pulock. Goaltending is certainly the weakest part of the team, especially in comparison to some of the other tandems Ive made. That being said, it shouldn't be too hard playing behind this team lol.

Was debating bringing him on for that 3rd LW spot. But I think Mikheyev is simply the superior cost-efficient option. As for Bjork, this lineup needs some players to play PK, and I like to make teams where top-line players don't have to fill in. Thus, Bjork being cheaper, a very strong defensive player & a solid PKer was the reason for me keeping him there

Even in comparison to some of the other combined teams Ive made, I would still rank this one highly. Top 6 six is dynamite (and yes Bjorkstrand deserves to be there, he's dominant at even strength) and has a nice balance of two ability, goal scoring and playmaking. Having PLD as a 3rd line centre is amazing and would work fantastic with Kase and Soup on the wings. 4th line is all about strong defensive ability & PK work.
Defense isn't quite as nice as the offense but the Jones-Mcavoy pairing is top notch. Rask and Elvis in net is fantastic.

Offensive L#1, has a bunch of players I really like. O'Rielly is one of the best on both ends of the ice & Ehlers/Tkachuk have complementary playstyles offensively. L#2 might be a defensive black hole but has all the offensive talent in the world. L#3, I tend to like 3rd checking lines, that isn't really the case here. Thomas is a real good player, but is still learning defensively. Lindholm might be my least favourite pick on this entire team as a result of his lacklustre season this past year. The 4th line is composed of players that have great analytics at bargain bin prices.

I think those 2 lines would be electric.</div></div>
I fixed the defense. I don't really know which side the d-men play on so I was just doing it blind. I intentionally switched Fiala and Landy as I was trying to keep a shoot first winger on each line. Boeser, Fiala and Burakovsky all on different lines. Also, Mackinnon and Rantanen can fulfill deep, board forechecking roles and accommodate the loss of Landeskog on their line. I'm not sure the same is true for a Boeser-Pettersson-Fiala line.

I valued analytics heavily when factoring player decisions. Arvidsson is certainly the better goal scorer and hes a decent 5on5 offensive option. However, his defensive isolates are amongst the absolute worst in the league. Also, I tried to make that 3rd line quite strong defensively (Bonino being an excellent shut down forward). Therefore, I chose to keep Smith instead.

A top 4 of Makar-Heiskanen-Dahlin-Hughes would be ridiculous. A pretty talented forward group but lacks some good role players as part of the depth. Goaltending is an issue too but a good defense could go a long way.

BSN Avs Mock Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>I agree wiht you htat montreal would want more and could do more in seperate deals
But I wonder why would the Avs do this (not looking the cost of giving up those guys) Petry and Tatar and fine but both older and 1 year left on their deals that arent cheap to begin with. That cap space would be better suited and used in a better investment in UFA that fit the team beyond just the 1 year remaining on their deals.
Combo Keep Jost (1m), Zads (3.5-4m) and go after a Kreider (6.5mi range) vs 10m in Tatar and Petry for 1 year? If Avs did move Jost and Zads its smarter to do it for younger cost controlled guys vs guys on the wrong side of 30 when they need new contracts</div></div>
Whos to say that any UFA they trade for will stay long term. They could trade for Kreider and he could just walk in the summer. Also, in no way do I think giving Kreider a 7x6.5M or 6x6.5M is gonna work out long-term. Thats the stereotypical UFA deal you end up regretting about 1-2 years after he signs it.
Thus, the timelines fit much better with Petry and Tatar as they are with the team for two playoff runs, after which they are probably let go. Not only that but we won't have any cap issues despite their combined deals until the year they leave when Makar, Landy & Grubauer are all up on their deals at that same point.
Petry is a massive upgrade from Z at least for this year, hes getting up there in age. Jost has a lot more trade value than his production indicates, but hes never going to reach his potential so far down the Avs depth chart. Montreal gives him the opportunity to play up the lineup. Tatar should work well within the Avs top 6 and is a better option stylistically than Kreider imo.
Avs can make a big splash this year in the playoffs aswell as next year, especially with the cap space they have. Use that cap space for two impact players on two playoff runs.
If you think the price is a little too short, which I agree it might be, throw in a 1st instead of one of the picks and maybe ask what prospects they like outside of Newhook, Byram, Timmins & Annunnen.
