<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>I agree wiht you htat montreal would want more and could do more in seperate deals

But I wonder why would the Avs do this (not looking the cost of giving up those guys) Petry and Tatar and fine but both older and 1 year left on their deals that arent cheap to begin with. That cap space would be better suited and used in a better investment in UFA that fit the team beyond just the 1 year remaining on their deals.

Combo Keep Jost (1m), Zads (3.5-4m) and go after a Kreider (6.5mi range) vs 10m in Tatar and Petry for 1 year? If Avs did move Jost and Zads its smarter to do it for younger cost controlled guys vs guys on the wrong side of 30 when they need new contracts</div></div>

Whos to say that any UFA they trade for will stay long term. They could trade for Kreider and he could just walk in the summer. Also, in no way do I think giving Kreider a 7x6.5M or 6x6.5M is gonna work out long-term. Thats the stereotypical UFA deal you end up regretting about 1-2 years after he signs it.

Thus, the timelines fit much better with Petry and Tatar as they are with the team for two playoff runs, after which they are probably let go. Not only that but we won't have any cap issues despite their combined deals until the year they leave when Makar, Landy &amp; Grubauer are all up on their deals at that same point.

Petry is a massive upgrade from Z at least for this year, hes getting up there in age. Jost has a lot more trade value than his production indicates, but hes never going to reach his potential so far down the Avs depth chart. Montreal gives him the opportunity to play up the lineup. Tatar should work well within the Avs top 6 and is a better option stylistically than Kreider imo.

Avs can make a big splash this year in the playoffs aswell as next year, especially with the cap space they have. Use that cap space for two impact players on two playoff runs.

If you think the price is a little too short, which I agree it might be, throw in a 1st instead of one of the picks and maybe ask what prospects they like outside of Newhook, Byram, Timmins &amp; Annunnen.
