Also, while I agree that NJD will push for the playoffs, if Jack Hughes goes down again or they go on a skid I can see them selling Toffoli, better than losing him for nothing.</div></div>
Flames are asking for a 1st or 2nd plus prospect to take Tanev. Cole could be flipped for another asset but would still need to compensate flames for taking the cap back.

Not for the devil's or the flames IMO.
Devil's are going to try to make the playoffs and flames will want more for Tanev especially if they need to eat Cole's contract.

He played just 4 games in the playoffs last year and was a healthy scratch for the rest, so how would he be "huge" this season? Has he gotten better as he aged?</div></div>
I think it was Eichel who specifically called out how important Kessel was despite only getting in 4 games. He played 82 during the season and was pretty good in thier bottom 6.

The Canucks shouldn't even consider signing him!</div></div>
Nah, they just see it as adding depth with low risk & low cost. He's clearly a very smart player and knows Tocchet well, I suspect he'll be in and out of the press box but come playoffs he might be huge.

Guentzel and Tanev
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HCSG</b></div><div>I feel like a lot of Pens fans really overvalue two or three months of Guentzel, and also undervalue the benefits of just getting a deal done, and further undervalue the benefits of using his value to move extra cap space out the door.
The Tane trade needs a 1st but IDK if Edmonton does that (they should tho).</div></div>
It's not Pens fans overvaluing Guentzel, it's just what the market has historically paid for the top rental at deadline day.
Guentzel will go for a first plus if he is moved.
Taking Campbell and Foegles salary is easily another 1st plus in compensation.
Additional 3M retention would be another 2nd at minimum.
Tanev is possibly a first as well if not a 2nd and good prospect.

Tanev, Joshua and Hronek will definitely be more even if Pettersson and Lindstrom take a hair cut those other players will get a lot more on the open market.

Your best prospect, your third best prospect, a young middle six forward, and at least one first round pick.</div></div>
Well the offer was 2 first round picks, arguably our best prospect, our hottest prospect right now and our prospect who has already shown to be a middle 6 NHL but it's questionable if he has top 6 upside. Honestly I overpayed but still think it is worth it to get a legitimate difference maker physically like Brady.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vancity2196</b></div><div>Canucks decline.
Kuzmenko is not going anywhere because he didn’t ask for a trade, and he deserves another chance with this team.
Trading a first round pick and couple of prospect players is not good if you’re a Canuck GM.
Brady Tkachuk doesn’t deserve to be a Canuck, and Ottawa should keep him long term.
I can see the second trade happen.</div></div>
Kuzmenko is great but he can't contribute in the same way Brady can.
I think we have at most a 3 year window including this year and IMO this trade puts us over the top in a way few others could. I'm not sure what you mean about Brady not deserving to be a Canuck but while he isn't an offensive force he is probably the most physically dominant player in th NHL and could score 35 playing with Petey while creating a ton of space.
As an incredibly rare player in his prime the cost would be huge despite not being a high end offensive player.

Reward the players
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>Why would the Flames pay to move Coleman?? If Myers and Beauvillier are 2nd round picks in your mind, Calgary would significantly prefer the picks. The Flames aren't adding a good piece of their bottom 6 to a deal with Tanev to diminish Tanev's value, that's just not the way that works.</div></div>
They would move him because it sounds like they want to retool and his contract is likely the hardest to move outside of Huberdeau.
I don't think Beauvillier and Myers recoup a 2nd each but do think between them, they would replace or improve upon the 2nd round pick.
I like Tanev but he's still one shot block away from being on LTIR and being worth nothing when TDL comes around and his value is at its highest. I'm sure he could fetch a late first especially if retained at TDL but it is a risk and IMO getting rid of Coleman's contract is going to cost a lot more than a late first.
I don't expect flames fans to get on board and I definitely get that my reasoning isn't what we usually see in these AGMs but appreciate the comment.

I think they both have roughly a 2nd round pick value. Timmins has actually shown well when healthy and IMO is a solid bet to be a top 4 Damn assuming his injuries were just bad luck (concussion, then Knee) and he's recovered.
It is a big gamble though but one I would be willing to take for a team that needs a puck moving RD now. Podkolzin could very well go on to be a top 6 forward but his window is fading and if he doesn't step up soon, his value is going to disappear.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>It's called context.
Any player on the verge of free agency is a capdump for a rebuilding team like Montreal. Even more for a small winger which they have plenty of.
Anderson is worth a 1st+ because many contenders would overpay for a rare power foward, thus why Lebrun and Dreger reported last season more than 10 teams were interested in him and Hughes rejected a 1st already.
"The more you know" 🌈</div></div>
If Hughes could get another first + in one of the deepest drafts and didn't, he's more out of touch than you. Regardless of if he likes Anderson or not.
Anderson is universally regarded as a player on a bad contract, I'll take the majority on this one over a GM who is likely trying to use the media to help his negotiating position (what all smart GM's do).

You are straight up crazy my friend all the players are essentially cap dumps other than Desmith but his value is low. Montreal gets paid to move out significant long term salary at the expense of backup.

I think the point being, this was his first year being good. If he can replicate it, the Canucks will look smart.
Typically though when a team develops a player for years and then sell the player despite needing players in that position, it means they don't think the player can replicate their success.
Time will tell on this one but historically the team selling knows the player a whole lot better than the team buying.

Moving Faksa's salary and improving defense seems like incentive along with a couple of mid picks. While I agree Myers isn't 3x the player he is a definite improvement.
