Trades with CBJ
Agree. Not sure I buy in to Calvert on 1st line LW and Vermette (while good on draws) being 4th line C. Don't know much about them, but put schmalz or motte in 4C, play Panarin & Vermeer as 1&2 LW and move calvert down to 3

I feel like I just read/watched a hockey version of back to the future. Nice job in pulling it all together through the strands of time.

I'm not sure why you are getting such low ratings with your lineup above.
With the Gagner signing, you have what is most likely going to be the opening lineup (just up in the air as to who plays in the #1, #2, & #3 C slots).
They must be upset that you don't have Milano penciled in above Campbell, but I think he will definitely get a good look in training camp.

Gagner
Clarkson has gotta go either LTIR or trade. There is no way they can keep him, unless they trade away either Hartnell, Calvert, or Campbell.
It doesn't make sense to keep Clarkson if they waive/buy-out next year, as it doesn't save any additional money.
The only other option to keep him is if they think they can get a Phoenix to take his contract next year once the Datsyuk contract ends and the dust settles from expansion draft.
I just noticed the value of Gagner's contract, they got him on a two-way for $650,000? A good low value, low risk contract and he has got a chance to really prove himself. I bet he will be motivated to play well.

Assuming Gagner is signed
I think lineup above would be very close to opening day, with exception of keeping Calvert & Campbell & sending Dubois to juniors for a year. The Gagner signing avoids having to rush Dubois. It gives 7 experienced F and 7 younger F to go after it this year.
Where did McIlhinney go? He wasn't traded, bought out or LTIR???

CLB`S
The purpose for trading Hartnell would be salary cap relief. CBJ would not want to take back a contract valued almost the same.
Otherwise, just keep Hartnell, as he is currently producing more points and mentorship to the younger players than Smith would.
As for Calvert, I really like his play, but he has not yet achieved higher than 3rd line status. Not sure he would garner a player (Prospect?) and 2 draft picks.
I cannot wait for the day Clarkson goes away.
Maybe Phoenix will be kind enough to take him off our hands after 2016-2017 season for a prospect & draft pick when Datsyuk's contract ends.
Clarkson could even play a few shifts/games for them if the team has an absolute need, like an epidemic of food poisoning or flu affects the 15 forwards ahead of him on the depth chart.
Phoenix bailed out Holland, so why not CBJ too?

I'm not so sure that is an overpayment. Both are good solid players. You have to give to get. Subban/Weber?, Johanssen/Jones?

Hawks minus Seabrook
Just curious why you went for 3 players (Morrow must be an AHL prospect since I don't see him in lineup above) rather than go with 2 players & a draft pick (1st, 2nd etc)?
It seems more teams are going to a CAP controlled system where they balance their higher priced vets and youthful entry level (or 2nd) contracts to keep costs in line.
The longer term outlook is questionable for 2017-18 with 6 F , 1 D & 1 G to sign with $17M cap space (not counting losing 1 player to expansion & assuming the cap stays $73M).

Possible opening day lines for 2016
My 2 cents: flip Jenner & Dubi. Jenner has a better chance to handle the #1 center role than Dubi. Also, flip Hartnell & Calvert. Hartnell has thrived on third line with the younger players such as Wennberg, Dano, & Anderson.
Atkinson at #1 RW, try Bjorkstrand at #2, Anderson at #3 and Foligno over in Dubois spot. Dubois should season a year in minors/juniors.

it is not common practice to sign a free agent goaltender away from another team and then trade him away (for a 5th round pick, no less).

Agree. Clarkson & Campbell will be press box buddies. I like Hartnell on the Wennberg & Anderson line. He has always played alongside the kids and thrived. Sedlak & Zaar will get looks too. If Sedlak's camp is like the Calder Cup playoffs, he just might make team in opening night.

Don't they already own Schenn's rights? They would only owe picks for Gaudreau. 2 1st round picks, 1 2nd round, & 1 3rd round.

2017
It should be interesting to see
1) whether Bob stays healthy and carries them into the playoffs. If so his trade value rises
2) who is taken in expansion draft, if many other d men are taken, I could see Calvert or Karlsson being taken
3) CBJ could offer sheet Panarin if Hawks have cap issues, but the trade route is better option so draft picks are not lost.
4) how well the rookies play this year (Bjorkstrand, Werenski, Anderson, Milano, etc)

Duchene and Barrie????
Wow, just read the post above and googled the story. He is really wasting his talent and stock in the NHL. Teams are having less tolerance for this kind of stuff, especially when there are so many more young talented players and they are developing much more quickly than they used to. Just look at Johnny Manziel and his rapid nose-dive in the NFL (not that he really ever established himself). It is so difficult to get the team chemistry right in any sport When someone like Kane comes along with the "me-first" rather than "team-first" mentality, it really does ruin a locker room.

Hoffman
I really like Hoffman. I was in my 1st yahoo fantasy league last year and picked up both Hoffman & Scheifele as FA mid-season and both carried me to victory (It helped that I had Patrick Kane as well). I really like the way Hoffman plays. He & Scheifele (and Trocheck too for that matter) are really good, skilled, young, two-way players. The trade above is a huge amount to give up, but probably worth it. When you break it down: Hartnell you are trying to remove salary anyway (I hate to lose him, i would almost give Foligno instead), Johnson will probably be lost in the 2017 expansion draft, and Milano really hasn't played yet so all you lose is his potential or up-side. I would disagree with giving up the 1st round pick since 3 players are being moved. Maybe insist on sending a 2nd/3rd rounder instead. Oh, I just read the term on Hoffman - 7 yrs. Maybe 5 max or add $500k to reduce it to 4-5 yrs. While Hoffman's 2-yr stats are impressive, you just don't want another Clarkson situation (so much salary & term with only 2 solid years' experience.

I would even argue for Hoffman getting higher than 4.5M for 3. $5M-%5.5M for 5-6 years. He's 26, and he has had 27G 21A 48 pts. & 29G 30A 59 pts. in the last 2 yrs. Team may want to lock him up for longer term than 3 yrs. The risk is that he may turn into a Clarkson...everything I've seen from his game, that probably won't happen.

I especially like the idea of bringing in a #1 center. I hope Wennberg & Karlsson & Dubois develop quickly. The model for success: drafting & developing solid centers. Florida with Barkov Trocheck, & Bjugstad. We need a true #1 until they are ready.
