My final projection before opening night
Regardless of the opening lineup, the bjorkstrand's and milano's and werenski's will need to learn quickly and play way over their head. The other "experienced" players we have are average at best (Foligno, Dubinsky, Calvert, Atkinson, etc) compared to other teams. We lost last night with our opening night lineup against A Boston team that didn't even have half their starters in. Looking attheschedule the opening first 20 games are going to be an uphill battle.

If rangers are full youth movement
The reality for Winnipeg is that there are so many suitors for Trouba, they will be able to trade him for an established player, pick and/or prospect without having to take a salary dump from the team they trade with.

Torts is watching
Gagner is solidifying his spot... while Campbell is earning his bus ticket out of town. I like the idea of slotting Gagner in the #2 spot and move Wennberg down to #3 and Karlsson to #4. Not a bad opening lineup. Hartnell is definitely leading by example so far, we know he is conditioned.

Columbus Blue Jackets 2017/2018
this must be a Detroit fan post, wanting to see CBJ in the proverbial basement for years to come. Calvert & Atkinson both for a 2nd round pick? Jenner, Wennberg, 1st round & 2nd round for Buff? And why in the world would CBJ trade for Howard? He is beyond bad and the Red Wings haven't been able to unload his no talent/horrible contract in the last 6 months!. And Brent Burns slotted in on the right wing? really? his value is in the top D pairing. I can't believe I wasted 5 minutes of my life reading this stupid trade/lineup and actually posting to it.

Trouba?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Architect</b></div><div><i>What r u all talking about?Trouba is a RD and Johnson and Murray are LD. Jones or Savard are gonna have to go. BTW Johnson is pretty good for the cash me makes.</i></div></div>
What are you talking about??? Think about this for a moment, please. Trouba is stuck on his off side (left) In Winnipeg. That is the need that Winnipeg has, and they refuse to play him on the right ahead of buff & Myers. Hence the trade above trading a left sided jack Johnson. Johnson is a puck mover, minute eater and can actually play the right side effectively if needed. It makes sense. This offer would definitely deserve serious consideration. Ultimately Boston, Pittsburgh or Detroit will probably win out in the Trouba sweepstakes.

Ask for the moon and you might get the stars instead.
I bet the CBJ would be ok with all but Wennberg in this deal if this came to be. I would want to keep Bjorkstrand and offer a 1st rounder instead. Either way, I think the value is still there substituting a 1st round pick for either Wennberg or bjorkstrand...any thoughts on this?

Unless they each take a value contract like stamkos did, they would each probably be looking closer to around $6m per year elsewhere...18m+ total.

It's time to make Canada great again!
Why not try to offer sheet lindholm. It is fairly clear he wants the money he thinks he deserves and the ducks can't afford the price above unless they make some other moves. I agree that the Vegas crapshooters will not take an aging vet with a $7M plus price tag. There will be too many skilled but value players available in the $3m-$5m range.

This is what lines should look like right now
Just a follow up. It does make me nervous with Dubi in the 1C slot. I really like him, but don't believe he will be able to carry the weight of that position for 82 games. The Jackets will need to roll and score consistently with all 4 lines if he is to be successful there.

They definitely have options. How about flipping bjorkstrand with Atkinson. That gives Dubois 2 experienced wingers to play with. Or Flip Bjorkstrand with Saad. This gives 4 lines with only 1 rookie (or young player in the case of Weinberg & karlsson)) in each.
I can't remember who Foligno was paired with 2 years ago when he had 31 goals, just curious.

Hopefully this will help facilitate the end of Clarkson as an active roster player sooner rather than later. I just heard a video clip of Davidson in which he said the Clarkson contract is insured...because we all know theHorton contract was not insured.

More & more teams are now rolling 4 lines that can score and still play responsibly in the D zone. I do agree with Hartnell and Dubois together with another experienced player like Foligno. Put Gagner with the 4th line Karlsson & Anderson.

What Could and Should have happened
Edmonton has had defensive issues for awhile now. It is too bad they did not trade Eberle & yak away and keep hall. Edmonton has had similar draft positions as both Florida and Columbus over the last 6-8 years, but look at the success of Florida now, with drafted and developed talent like barkov, trochek, bjugstad, & ekblad. Edmonton and Columbus have both mismanaged their personnel & contracts miserably.

If possible, Crosby is EVEN BETTER w/ Bergeron & Marchand
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div><i>Even if technically the trade value is fair I still wouldn't do it if I were the Pens. Its not even about value anymore when your talking about superstars like Crosby. Even if some team offered 10 1st rounders for Mario Lemieux at age 20, I'd still not do it. Even if it would defy logic. I'd rather keep Crosby just out of spite that no one else could have him except for me than to trade him.
That's why these fantasy trades for superstars like Crosby, etc can never be plausible and will forever just be for fun but without any substance.</i></div></div>
Agreed. The merchandising and franchise value is too great. Ironically Boston traded away probably the 2 biggest since the blockbuster Gretzky trade...Thornton and Seguin.

I'm with Viqsi. The Edmonton trade is slanted heavily toward Edmonton. Columbus will wait until closer to trade deadline if needed to get a value pick for Hartnell. If not, he will waive his NMC for the expansion draft, as will several others. The player Oilers should unload is Yakupov. If they could keep center depth with RNH, McDavid and Draisatl, they would be set up the middle for years to come.

Yes, Karlsson has improved a great deal. He's also a #3C and can be replaced trivially. That's less true of Hartnell's combination of production and proven mentoring ability.</i></div></div>
Don't get me wrong, I love what Hartnell is doing, and i don't want him traded. I have been saying all along to the Haters that Hartsy has 109 points in the last 2 years on a line with rookies and sophomores. This will be a fun year when they clean house of the likes of Campbell and Clarkson and we see some Fast & skilled rookies playing up this year.
As for the comment above, i don't get caught up on the line # that is played. With future talent such as Dubois, karlsson and Wennberg, when they are fully developed,I envision them being interchangeable and the team rolling 4 solid 2-way lines like many teams are doing now.

In the end, all I see is stoner, draisaitl & a 3rd coming in and Savard, Hartnell, Milano, a 2nd, and $1.25M going out. Draisaitl will be very good someday, I don't know enough about Stoner, I'm just not convinced this makes the Jackets a better team now or in the future on the ice. It did cut over $4M in Payroll, that's a good thing.

Sorry jackets man but this isn't one of your better deals, from a Jackets perspective. When you break this down, the Jackets give up savard & fowler and receive draisaitl & a 3rd? And giving up Hartnell & Milano for Stoner? Not sure this really helps them at all.

I like Saad & Jenner too much to trade either of them. I know they prefer Jenner on the wing, but he may thrive in the Center role. He could actually be a top center with some development. The jackets are only a #1 center and a #1 goaltender from winning the CUP.
