If gaudreau wanted to go east, he would choose a team that could at least make it out of the first round of the playoffs.

Blues Hockey on WB11
It's a shame St. Louis has to give up on Shattenkirk due to cap issues. The biggest hurdle is the Stasny contract. If St Loius can trade Stasny to, say Arizona with a high pick, they could afford to sign Shattenkirk to a long term and retain some of their other RFAs too

The value of trade above is actually very good, as Atkinson is a 25 goal scorer (21, 22, 27) in the last 3 years. A 1st is always valuable but cannot control where it falls. I would suggest holding back Milano and offering Korpisalo or Forsberg since both are on a rapid rise (korpi posted very good numbers in his rookie year and forsberg carried Lake Erie to Calder cup last spring). Plus Calgary needs to find a young franchise goalie, jackets may have 2 in the stable now. Or send Bob in the deal with the 1st and a prospect.

There is quite a catch22 situation here. If talking about a 2016 move, then yes St Louis has leverage. Shattenkirk is UFA in 2017, so waiting a year for him, from Ranger standpoint makes sense. All they would need to do is work to clear cap space for him to slot right in. Knowing this, from Blues perspective, reduces their leverage, especially if they know he wants to leave. Very complex.

There also is no guarantee Las Vegas would want Weber solely due to his age & contract (they have a salary cap too ya know).

Easy enough, trading Prout for a box of pucks and a 7th would get the needed Mil to make it happen. Problem solved, thanks!

Last year, we basically forgot that we had no defense and were relying on Bourque to be a real contributor. Different story this year. Bjorkstrand brings in some real optimistic expectations. Korpisalo and Forsberg give give Bob a chance to not carry the load.</i></div></div>
Ok, thanks for the pep talk, I feel a lot better now. Agree defense needs to step up. Here is hoping we have like 3 rookies pushing each other for the Calder trophy.

Pardon the inquiry, but if he can't finish, and he can't take a faceoff, and he can't enter the zone all that well, and he isn't a shut down center, how can you say he's extremely talented?

Clearing for Cap Room
The whole of Manitoba has spoken on this issue many times in these quote replies...and they are absolutely NOT interested in anybody's has-been goaltenders and bloated contracts.
They are going with their home-grown G talent and will not serve as a salary dump for other teams' desperate GMs.
And you really have the nerve to send Howard straight up for Pavelec? With no incentive to take your garbage (contract) from you???
Click (for the hearing impaired, CHEVELDYOFF just hung up the phone on Holland).

Why would Vermette play 2nd LW? He is a center and not a top 6 scorer. Vermette would play 3C and Kruger would continue his 4th line shutdown role. Motte and Schmaltz would play wing.</i></div></div>
Disagree. At Columbus (and probably Phoenix too, I really didn't follow him there) Vermette played mostly Center, but some occasional wing. I'm not familiar with Kruger, so not sure if he would be ok on a wing or move Anisimov to LW. I was just pointing out that as a depth player, Vermette could probably be well served for LW duty to cover a little less ice/territory (as he is advancing in age), yet still be there to take a draw or two when needed in key situation, and playing on a line with both Anisimov & Kane, Vermette will get his point totals up considerably.

Now your talkin. What a great strategy putting Hartsy with Wennburg who has the positioning and vision (but not yet has the hands of the face off skills or the shot) and speedster like Bjorkstrand.
How about D pairings of Murray Savard / Johnson jones / werenski & golobeuf.

Gagner in the fold
Starting to worry about you, jacketsman61, hadn't seen you post for a day or two. Scary good, not sure.
I think seriously that Torts will say just the opposite. This lineup is NOTHING until you go out there and show them how scary good you are.
I got so tired last summer of hearing how good they were going to be in 2015-16, all in the name of selling tickets. The exact quote (I think) was "I cant wait to get them out there to see what is under the hood". The media hype was disgusting. We found out what was under the hood, a blown head gasket, going 0-8?
I like to dream that they will light it up, charge out of the gate, lay waste to the other teams by Thanksgiving, and Bob is the Bob of old, and Foligno will find his voice, and Bjorkstrand will win rookie of the year honors, and they will find a waste receptacle large enough for the Clarkson contract. But I then wake up and realize it is just too dangerous to dream these things.

Everyone undervalues aging veterans. You didn't put Jagr on here, why? Hartnell has 109 points in last 2 years. everyone fears his age, but at 34 he is going stronger than most. And probably will right through the end of his contract.

The coyotes bought out Vermette? I get it, They need to get a few mil down to reach the cap floor. Youth Movement
The fans must be so excited to shell out huge sums of their hard-earned money to not watch their 2 biggest salary players not play. What a travesty that this is allowed to happen, bailing out other teams' horrible contracts for the sake of draft picks & cash. Just curious, does the team buy up all unsold seats using the big market profit sharing revenue and revenue from dumped contracts and "donate" the tickets to charity so the "underprivileged" of the community can watch hockey (and a nice big tax write-off)? If so, wouldn't that be like some sort of Ponzi scheme or shell game?

Sabres- In Season Blockbuster
I agree. Lehner is solid, but inconsistent. He has played behind a team that gives up way too many quality scoring chances (a little too wide open). Howard has been behind a team more disciplined but put up some bad numbers. Focus for the Sabres should be to shore up the defensive zone more and if Lehner continues to struggle, trade for a franchise guy, like BOBROVSKY. Maybe send Eichel & a 1st round pick (you know, Bobs don't grow on trees), so ya got to spend a little.
Ok, maybe that's a little high, Ristolainen & O'Reilly?
