Thinking outside the house that is outside of the box
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>If we got Parayko and Thomas for marner I would call that a win... adding two firsts is quite gratuitous.
Also no way Montreal gives up Gallagher.</div></div>
Is that better for the STL trade?
I get the idea that MTL wouldn't want to trade Gally but they are really weak in the middle. Kadri helps fix that quite a bit I think. What would need to be added for Gallagher-Kadri deal to go through?

Just a Theory with Marner being Traded
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Yes, you should but some thought into it. Ottawa who were finishing out of the playoffs had already talked extension with Turris but he turned it down. Turris was being traded by TDL for sure. And as we seen it's been a bad deal for Nashville. Brodie is an important part of a 1st place team, you think it's the same. Leafs certainly don't know what their cap situation is 2019/20 and aren't committing to Brodie.</div></div>
Again. Put forth a suggestion. What would you want them to do?

Anyways that makes more sense, glad you recognize how good Marner is lol
With the right deal involving Marner, I could see him getting parayko, Jones/werenski, literally any top defenseman. That’ll sound ridiculous to people, but a 95 point 21 year old winger could get you just about anyone.</div></div>
Trust me. I don't actually want him to leave I just hate the idea of paying three forward 11mil when the problem is clearly back end and we can't afford to fix anything.

Just a Theory with Marner being Traded
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>"Given an extension?" Why would the Leafs do that? Why Brodie do that? And really so what happens, The Flames tell Brodie "We have tentatively traded to Toronto, Now talk to them and try to work an extension. But if the Leafs and you can't come to an agreeement, hey you are always welcomed back to the Flames for one more year of you contract though we don't really want you on our team."
Most of these extension theories are really just covering up bad trades.</div></div>
The Three way trade between avs, nash and ottawa included Nashville figuring out an extension for turris before the trade happened. Though please, Put forth a suggestion on what you think the leafs should do.

Marner and a bit more could get you almost any defenseman you want.
Wayne Gretzky got traded multiple times. Nashville traded their captain 3 years ago. Everybody is available if you offer enough. Marner is enough.</div></div>
I meant Larsson is not that great. I think Marner is amazing and borderline better then Matthews.
I'll edit this for Ellis. I grabbed Turris purely as a replacement for Kadri and he's also better then people give him credit for.

That Calgary trade is bad for the Leafs. One year or Brodie for three years of Kadri and more.</div></div>
I think Brodie could easily be given an extension, heck even make that part of the deal.

I would accept that without hesitation, I just don't think Nashville would as they traded away PK and it would make their right side much softer.

Sweet. You go tell me how Marner gets on defense? Ellis? After they just traded pk? Larsson? He's not that great. Everyone who says stetcher gets laughed and ridiculed at.
So please tell me which Defenseman should I have gone for that's even remotely available.

Dream come true
While I get the idea of the trade. if the leafs get offer sheeted they get 4 1st round picks. So why would they accept less then that? 2 first 2 seconds a 4th, smith and Trenin feels less then four first round picks. Toronto would rather be after a Defenseman (Ellis-Which I totally understand is a no-go) Or at least Arvidsson to replace Marner. I think Toronto would probably turn down anything that didn't include either of those.
Interesting idea though. If Toronto trades away Kadri I could see them being interested in Turris though potentially.

100% disagree with that and the leafs can easily offer more. they have currently 20mil in capspace Adding the what 8 mil from reimer and LTIR for Lou? That means they have 28mil to sign 10 players and 20+ will be going to Bob and Panarin.
Regardless this is merely just the idea of Marner getting offersheeted and using the four first round picks to pick up players that can replace him for cheaper. If you have better suggestions feel free to make them.

I don't think the leafs want Hoffman so it's huberdeau or they take their business elsewhere and then the panthers are back to finding a buyer elsewhere that offers a first pick swap + a first pick + a B+/A- prospect

Nylander should stay a winger, move Jankowski to center and just don't take Brodziak, goat is cheap and perfectly fine as a 4th line center, that way you can pay kappy over 3 like he's going to demand.

Outside the box
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>I didn't mention the cap savings?
It doesn't make sense to move Zaitsev and Marleau and not re-sign Kapanen and Johnsson. They have enough cap space right now for Marner. If they can move Marleau and Zaitsev the whole intention is to re-sign Kapanen and Johnsson, not make them a part of the deal to move those players. Just doesn't make sense for Toronto</div></div>
We don't have enough right off the bat to pay for marner as we just under 9 in cap space currently. Zaitsev wants out of Toronto, Our defense is in dire need of upgrading. If they keep Johnsson(who I do quite like) they can't get Ellis. I'd rather deal away one of them at that point. If you have a better suggestion besides trading away Marleau and Z and holding pat on the team as it is, I'm all ears but the current team needs fixing, specifically on the back end.

Florida trade makes sense.
For Kadri, I genuinely think that there is no other contract in the market where we have what would be a 1C on terrible teams with no centre depth to a 2C on most teams with a top line centre.
I understand the sentiment behind trading Kadri because of his poor playoff performance, lowered point totals this season and being dropped down the depth chart. If we trade Kadri, I think the only feasible trade must be at least a Top2/4 RHD with possibly a sweetener on either side depending on who's being offered.</div></div>
I edited to give us eaves instead.
Well Kadri getting Barrie meets those requirements. I'm just asking who should we go get as a number 3 center then?
I just see Kadri as a piece that needs to start over somewhere new. I don't know what good #3 centers are out there. I'll look around to see if we can find someone else while waiting for a reply
Vancouver is going all in this offseason so to me this says "Hey we might be doing stupid ****" so I'm going to keep trying to see what options work for stetcher, because he fits our needs near perfectly, especially after this season both sandin/liljegrin are going to come up from the marlies to anchor the bottom pairing.

We keep Naz unless the return is immaculate. Jankowski is in almost every way a downgrade from Naz, except cap space.
In principle I am okay with Johnsson leaving, but the return is too weak.
King Reimer returning would be nice. The deal looks good on the Toronto side of things. Question is whether or not Florida will want to play ball with Sparks. Although they do have Luongo and Montambeault.</div></div>
I don't know about stetcher, i just want him. I don't care what we do with marleau if it's for hossa or eaves, it's just us getting rid of 6.25 cap space.
Florida is trying to get bob + panarin, and it sounds like Luongo might just go on LTIR, and they need cap savings for those two. They could easily just bury sparks without a caphit either.
I think Jankowski is not as bad as people think he is, He is a pk-ing center, very cheap. Who would you rather get instead to replace Kadri?

Kappi has 54 points in 133 games played of which have come from the powerplay
Kappi kills penalty's and is a top 6 player.
Goodrow has 47 in 206 games played.
Goodrow had 76pim's and is not a top 6 player nor does he play the powerplay.
See how evaluation works? Adding a third round pick doesn't make things equal. Any pick after the second round is usually just chucking things on the wall and hoping something sticks.
Unfortunately the don't really see anyone of interest to us from the Sharks that fits their needs outside of Timo Meier but the sharks hang up the phone there and the leafs refuse pretty much everything else.
