so your going to pay someone who cant pay the entire season more money then someone who has played every single game?

quick question:
whats the reasoning for Marner getting 10 million?
Marner has lead the team in points the last two years. and his reward for two great season is less pay the guys who got less points then him?

Enhanced Leafs
so you reward your point leader for two years a less salary then Tavares and Matthews? that's a slap in the face to Marner.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JoeForts</b></div><div>You are way overpaying, and undervaluing Johnsson, Kapanen and Nylander. Like seriously? St. Louis gets both Kap and Nylander AND a 1st round pick?</div></div>
That happens when your backed against the wall of the salary cap. teams know you have to trade players.

my shot at the leafs salary cap problem
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Holl isn't an NHLer and I doubt if the Leafs wants both Rosen and Lijegren as NHLers next year. Pretty obvious to me a high to mid cap forward is going to have to be traded.
Horton on is LTIR before the season....it doesn't affect cap at all next seasons. Scott in net as first year pro?</div></div>
when you backed against the salary cap, you start to run out choices you have. Unless they can find players that can compete at a lower pay rate. just my thoughts

Can someone explain to me why marner doesnt get the same as matthews?
Marner led the team in points last year, and in the lead again this season. but the leafs are going to pay someone who play less time more money? Yea he has a higher point per game but has more injuries.

Next Year
just an FYI.
Kapanen is on pace for 55 points this season. He will get more then 2 million per season.
Marner is on pace for 115 points this season. and you want to reward him with 7.5? thats an insult to him.
The smart move here, is Not to separate Marner and Matthews by giving them matching deals. It lets them both know that the club doesnt think one is better than the other.
In my opinion, I think Marner and matthews get 10-11 each and Kapanen is going to get around 4-5.
Brandon Saad was 23 when he got 53 points. He signed a 6 million dollar per year. Kapanen turns 23 on July 23.

year 2
Mathews and Marner will be looking for identical deals.
Mathews will want more than Tavares
Nylander will want 7-8 million. playing sports for toronto, youll have to deal with 32.67% federal tax & 15.08% provincial tax due to income, The athletes have to pay a larger taxes which means less in their actual pockets.
