<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>Honestly... not a fan of it. I say we don’t rush him, because I don’t think he’s ready for the NHL. I would rather play one of Khaira, or Haas there, and play McLeod one more year in the AHL for more practice and to get better before making the NHL team.</div></div>
McLeod's potential is as a bottom 6 forward. I really don't see him playing in the NHL on the 4th line as rushing him since his ceiling is likely the third line. He had great production in Europe this fall, keeping pace with guys like Puljujarvi and Lavoie in a very good league. I think he'll get a good look in camp but still has to outplay guys like Haas, Khaira and Shore for a roster spot. He'll probably spend the season in the AHL but I don't think it's a stretch to think he's fully capable of contributing in the NHL right now.

RNH-Draisaitl-Yamamoto were so good last year, it's gonna be a real shame when Tippett refuses to play them together this season so that we can have a more "balanced" roster.

Opening Night Lines
Who is the PP replacement for Neal/Chiasson? I think at least one of those two cracks the line up just to play on the PP.
I'd bump Barrie into the top 4 as well. I think the right side is going to be very fluid to start the season to figure out what the pecking order will actually be.
Otherwise pretty damn solid set of lines.

Bear 2Mx2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>uphere</b></div><div>I am not a fan of Russell, but I do think he offers some on-ice value if he is deployed as a 5-6 d-man, where he is less likely to be exposed to higher end opposition.
Neither Chiasson nor Puljujarvi have lived up to expectations that were established for them when they were drafted. However, it seems inaccurate to state both are fringe NHL players. Chiasson has a Stanley Cup ring and has proven to be a strong role player wherever he has played. Although he did not repeat his 20-goal performance, he still made very positive contributions last season and he is exactly the kind of player that is needed for the kind of season we are about to watch unfold. Puljujarvi has already proven himself capable of being a decent NHL 3rd line forward. Time will tell whether he can become a solid top six player.</div></div>
Puljujarvi hasn't proven anything at the NHL level. I think he's earned a shot but I can't say with any confidence that he's better for the team than someone like Archibald, who can kill penalties or Chiasson who can score on the PP.

My bad on the Russell on the second pair. Chiasson and Puljujarvi are fringe NHLers but at least Chiasson has some use on the PP.

Were any of these players on the team for opening night last year? Pretty damn solid offseason for Ottawa and the squad looks to be greatly improved from what they put on the ice last season.

If Klefbom plays this year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>The Oilers buyout window is closed. Klefbom hasn't played on the 1st pair for several years now (and certainly won't be with a bad shoulder)... and Barrie never has.</div></div>
They can be the second pair then.
If there isn't another buyout window, then we are in a rough spot if Klefbom decides to play.

Edmonton Oilers signed Philip Kemp (3 Years / $786,667 AAV)
This is such a relief as an Oilers fan. NCAA players are always a slippery slope and it's nice to no longer have to worry about him just walking away from the Oilers after finishing college. Kemp is a very solid prospect and will immediately contribute in the AHL if they have a season this year.

Then it should only take a paper transaction or two to become cap compliant then day one klef goes on ltir and bring back the paper transactions.</div></div>
As much as I like Bear and would love to see him signed long term, I think a bridge deal is what is going to happen. Oilers don't have enough info on what kind of player Bear is and the tight cap for this season screams bridge deal.

When Klefbom goes on LTIR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>dont the oilers have to make moves to be cap compliant before they are allowed to LTIR Klefbom? Even if they wait to sign Bear and Lagesson after LTIR, money has to be moved out first so they can be cap compliant prior to training camp opening and they can LTIR.
I think if they wait to sign their RFAs once training camp starts, they can be compliant by sending Yamamoto "down to the AHL" since hes waiver exempt. But if they sign noe of their guys then real money has to be moved</div></div>
They will also have one too many forwards so one has to be waived before the season starts. I think in this example Khaira has been waived, so that's an extra $1M in cap space before Klefbom goes on LTIR.

The eventual Russell-Larsson third pair is pure nightmare fuel. Trade them both and just run five forwards for 12 minutes a night.

Paper transactions on Bouchard and Yamamoto to the minors. Expose Nygard and Haas to waivers.

The defense really isn't what it used to be. Morgan Rielly shouldn't even be in the conversation yet here we are with him possibly in the top 4. Our route to winning is through that forward group.

And Vancouver is happy to let him walk. Something smells a bit fishy here... 2.85GAA in the playoffs with a 0.919 SV seems eerily similar to Koskinen this season.
