Lucic Dump + Pacioretty Trade

Juulsen would grow into a top pair d before Mete. Juulsen is much better</div></div>
Juulsen is great, but wrong handed unfortunately for our needs anytime soon. He's most likely going to replace Petry as a really good #3. I get that both terms are long. Stastny's is most dangerous, but it's his final contract. I really can't see him taking less than 4, with 5 being the most likely. I think sub 5.5 is possible, but we are looking at 6 or 7 year term for that luxury. De Haan is a middle pairing defender, who's only 26. While the injury is concerning, his age is perfect for a longer term deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jaykegil</b></div><div>You replaced Alzner’s shitty contract for 2 shittier contracts Stastny 5,750,000$ for 5 years seriously? De Hana 6 years at 5,750,000$. You have Lucic at 6,000,000$, Petry’s Shitty contract, Schelmko,Shaw,</div></div>
Stastny's contract is in a position that we are desperately weak at. Even by adding him, we are still short an established top 6 center, barring Drouin growing into the role in his second season. Except a multi-year rebuild, which I just don't see as being a very likely scenario, than we need to pay to get a top 2 center that can put up 50+ points. Stastny is that.
De Haan is the a much better compliment to Weber than Alzner is. He's legitimately a number 3 LD that can move the puck and is significantly more mobile than Alzner. There are no top pairing LD available so he'd be our best bet in my opinion to give us a competent top pair going into next season.. Ideally Mete grows into the top pairing LD role, and De Haan falls back and pairs with Petry to be a solid middle pair.

You're right, it's 8.875 real money, it's 11.5 in Cap Hit.

Col trade could happen.</div></div>
Habs wanted Vilardi. 2 prospects taken in the 2nd round, and a guarenteed mid 1st round pick is a lot differant than an top 10 (11?) pick from last year, and a 1st that could potentially be a lottery pick. I don't believe that Habs would have taken this package at the deadline. LA gets some flexibility in knowing that they are extending Pacioretty also.
Yes, the Oilers have a lot of LD. But getting rid of Lucic is going to have a cost, should they decide to go this route. To fit Alzner they only need to move one defender. Maybe it's Nurse in a package for a quality winger.

Post Draft Reset *including deadline deals*
We have to give up something that will sting a little to get a quality center ala RNH. As much as they need wingers, we desperately need to add a top line center this offseason. Losing Gallagher absolutely hurts, but we need not having a top 6 center is much much worse.
I may be overvaluing Perron a bit, but with Bailey setting the market in NYI with likely a slight hometown discount I think that's the price. After shipping out Pacioretty, we need to hit one of the wingers available on this years free agent market. Perron is a point per game and is a right handed shot, something the team is already lacking. He usurps Scherbak down the 5 on 5 lineup in my roster above, but TOI would be close since I think Scherbak would be on the 2nd PP unit. Still, if a top six 5 on 5 role is a much for Scherbak, either he or Perron could be moved intp Hudon's spot on the left side and Hudon down onto the 3rd with Pleks and Lehkonen.

Changing of the Guard
I think one for one the value is pretty close for Pacioretty vs Skinner, but Skinner gains a bit because of age. Chucky for Necas is tough, but Chucky isn't a perennial 30g 50p player. he's done that once. He's not likely to score 20g this year and isn't on pace to beat 50p. Not saying Necas is any better than that, but he's a blue chip center prospect that will likely be in the NHL as soon as next season. Asking Carolina to add one of their top D-Prospects seems like a lot. Alternatively, maybe a deadline deal (if Skinner really is unhappy with his current situation) of Pacioretty, Galchenyuk, and Plekanec for Skinner, Necas, Kruger, and a conditional 2018 2nd that turns into a 1st should Carolina make the playoffs.

Next season in my plan
I'll give you some credit for not overrating the Habs assets... But Bjugstad is pretty much a winger now, I'm not sure he's played center at all this year. So Bjug and two 2nds for Pacioretty will be a very disappointing return. Doesn't help the center problem and Habs give up by far the better player.
No reason to sell low on Lehk. We still have another year on his ELC. If the best return out there on him is a 2nd round pick than he's a strong hold. From a Habs POV, I'd say no. Now if he was included in a trade for a center as a complimentary piece, I'd be interested.
The Calgary trade is pretty bad for them. Kylington is playing good pro hockey, while Evans was a 7th round pick for a reason. He's had a good year but he's a 4th year college player with zero pro experience. He's still a long shot to make the NHL as a 4th line player albeit with an upside of a 3rd line center. I Don't think Calgary will like that.
Oilers might make the move for cap space. But it's a pretty marginal amount. Not sure on this one, but my guy says Edmonton says no.

Stamkos again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>St Louis has a salary cap, and doubt if they would want the 6 million man Plekanec and give up assets too.</i></div></div>
You very well could be right, but if they fail to resign Backes, than they'll have a major drop off from Stastny to Lehtra, whom I don't see as a true 2nd line center. Chances are they clear some cap by moving Shattenkirk this off season, and possibly Bergland. I think they have room and a need.
I just see Plekanec's on ice play as a very good fit in St. Louis. I don' think a 2nd next year, and a former 2nd round pick who's play dropped off significantly this year is an unreasonable return.

Stammer for four just like Lebron in Miami
Stamkos for 4 years will likely be the NHL's first Max Contract (if i'm not mistaken). We are talking 14.8 Million dollars on a 74 Million dollar cap. He's likely getting more than 9 Million for 7 years.

Could the Leafs draft Matthews AND Nylander?
Montreal is the obvious solution here. They need top 6 forwards and JVR would be a perfect fit for their 2nd line. I don't see Bergevin wanting to trade out of the 1st round though, so Toronto would have to really want Nylander because they are probably adding Pitts 1st rounder to get it done.

Anybody at UFA is going to get paid. The Habs need more talent on the left side He has the ability to take away some of Markov's minutes which Emelin can't really be counted on for. Russell - Subban is much better looking than Emelin - Subban when Markov needs some time off.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LobsterMagnet19</b></div><div><i>Iginla..... has a no trade clause and says he doesn't want to leave Colorado. If that changes it would be at the deadline and to a contender. Regardless, Avalanche have less than 0 interest in Emelin</i></div></div>
Obviously he'd have to waive so it takes a bit of a suspension of disbelief to get done. As for Colorado and Emelin. He would provide stability to their middle pair and be a really good 4-5 defensemen for them. Combined with clearing 3 Million in cap space for the Avs, I think they would have some interest.

Stamkos Matthews
That 11M is better spent elsewhere if we win the lottery. a 1 - 2 of Galchenyuk - Matthews for the next 10 years is fantastic. Add a couple of top 6 wingers with that 11M or another top 4 LD, and we are ready to compete.

Next Year Rebuilding
I disagree with a lot of what is going on here... Players like Andrighetto, Lessio, Danault, Carr, and definitely Ellis aren't going to get more than a million. Most will get very short term deals with Ellis being the cheapest. Barberio is listed as RFA, but I believe because of Waivors he's actually UFA. He'll probably get the most of any of our re-signed players this year. Chychrun isn't likely to be in the NHL next season let alone penciled in as a top 4 option. Crazy unnecessary overpayment to bring in Burrows and Higgins.

Habs 2016/2017
Some questionably lineup decisions, but the core is really good. I wouldn't assume Pulijujarvi will be in the top 6 right away. I see him on the 3rd line to start, Carr- Eller - Puljujarvi would be a really good 3rd line, with Puljujarvi likely getting some top 6 opportunities throughout the year. I don't see Scherbak or Lehkonen in the NHL full time next year, although Scherbak being in North America, i'm sure he'll get some games here and there.
Given the basis of your lineup, if Bergevin didn't go out and sign an established top 6 RW, than I think it'll would be McCarron and Andrighetto competing for the open top 6 RW spot. With Skinner in the picture, the line has already given up a lot of size, I could see Andrighetto hypothetically getting packaged to improve the Defence.
Pacioretty - Stamkos - Gallagher
Skinner - Galchenyuk - McCarron (Although Galchenyuk will need to show he can play two way hockey for this to work.)
Carr - Eller - Puljujarvi
Byron - Mitchell - DSP
JDLR - Flynn
4 out of 5 for the trades and the core, but I you lost me with some of the lineup choices.

Fixing Montreal
This does nothing to fix the habs. We get smaller.. We trade our best center and a pick for a goalie??? We trade out 1/3 of our top 6 and get a maybe in Drouin back. Sorry, but I just can't buy this.
