ristolainen just got traded for a fortune to a contending team, despite being literally awful 24/7 and having zero playoff experience

marner would fetch a haul from another team, he's literally a top 10 winger in the league. Even as a rookie playing on the third line with guys like bozak/kadri he still put up like 60-70 points lol

I still maintain marner would be easy to trade (look at the return ristolainen/jones just got for god's sake, and they suck), Mitch is a top 5 scorer in the regular season lol

However, that contract is looking more and more like a boat anchor. He basically has to be the best winger in the NHL to live up to it lol, a tall task - where-as a guy like willy performs and it's a pleasant surprise because he only makes $7M

still though, after this season, july 1st the leafs pay him a $7.25M signing bonus and then he makes league min salary for the rest of the season, then only makes like $8M aav from there on out. A young team with cap space would take that deal in a heartbeat, use it to hit the cap floor but also not really spend much in real dollars (plus he'd have 3 seasons left, so not a rental)
