<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>You can't really build around a winger though</div></div>
Ovechkin and Kane would have a word, and Lafreniere is meant to be borderline generational.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>You don't trade that many quality prospects for one player, I don't care who it's for.</div></div>
I mean you'd certainly trade those pieces+ for McDavid. Not saying Lafreniere is anywhere near McDavid and it's certainly much more risky since Lafreniere is a prospect himself, but I take quality over quantity any day. There's no way Montreal does this deal irl, since it's way too risky, but this is probably the minimum value needed for a team to give up the 1st overall pick.

For a franchise guy like Lafreniere I feel like it's a reasonable price going to Detroit. Kotkaniemi is gonna be great, but Lafreniere is on another level completely. Everyone is hyping Caufield up a lot, but he's a high-risk prospect and there's a reason he fell in the draft. Add in the fact that the draft is in Montreal, and MTL probably does this trade if whoever gets the 1st pick would accept it.

No way Flyers or Stars take those trades. On the other hand, Gaudreau and Valimaki's values are much higher than that.

Flames - Pens
If I'm the Leafs I don't make that Barrie trade. He'll turn it around. With the Flames trade the value just isn't there for me. Ceci-Hamonic is a massive downgrade, and so is Jankowski-Gauthier. I don't think the difference between Bennett and Kapanen is big enough to turn that around. Also, the Flames like Bennett and need his grit just as much as the Leafs do.

I don't see you guys trading Faulk right after signing him. If I'm the Flames I'm asking for Thomas minimum as a starting point - value could be right if you take that trade and just replace Faulk with Thomas.

We don't need another LHD - Brodie plays RD so we'd take someone like Myers over Hagg. Take our 4th out too and turn one of the 2nds into a 1st and the value could be close.

reportedly available (or at least teams have asked about him) since we aren't doing too good right now

As a Flames fan I like that trade a lot. Monahan, Couturier, and Backlund gives us a 1A/1B down the middle with a great 3C in Backlund. Two shutdown centers in Couturier and Backlund would be great for matchups. If the Flyers actually offered that trade I would take it for sure.

yeah maybe the value is fair but Caufield just doesn't fit CGY's needs imo

Don't like that MTL trade. I'd do it for Kotkaniemi but I wouldn't get rid of Gaudreau just to pick up a scorer even smaller than him.

We aren't going to rebuild with all the veterans we have on the team. Honestly I wouldn't take anything except Malkin - we need an impact forward like him.

I don't think we need Pearson. Seems like a pretty lateral move in any event. Prefer Frolik's chemistry with Tkachuk and Backlund + his defensive ability.

trade with toronto
Maybe take out the 2nd? Schneider and Gawdin are pretty worthless imo so the trade becomes:
Gaudreau for Marner - pretty even in skill, but Gaudreau is on a much more friendly contract
Brodie for Ceci - obvious win for the Leafs
Jankowski for Kapanen - win for the Flames
3 for 3 trade comes out about even imo

I get the asking price has to be high as to sort of protect yourself from underselling a player but I don't think you need to undersell Poehling in the process. He's a legit good prospect. not sure Hanifin could land a more premier prospect like Dach or Hayton or Alex Turcotte, etc</div></div>
I'm just saying I wasn't selling him short. He's just not a 1C and the Flames don't need another middle-6 C. Bad trade needs-wise for both teams.

Point still stands that he's at least as good as Panarin, and won't take anything less contract-wise.

He wants to win. No way he goes to EDM unless they go on a deep run, and he certainly isn't taking a discount to play there. Think 11-12M (like Panarin) and you might have something, but Hall has a Hart while Panarin only has a Calder so he might want even more.

I just don't peg him for a 1C, which leaves middle-6 by default. Either way it seems like it'd be a bad trade for both teams.
