While I agree that goalies don't have a lot of trade value in general, and there's no way DET trades Bertuzzi for Demko, saying he's a career backup is way too early to call. He might have the same trajectory as Bernier (highly touted prospect that actually became a career backup) or he could still develop into a starter. He's a 24 YO with a whopping 37 NHL games played, and most goalies don't peak until their late 20's. I'm hoping the Canucks hold onto him. Also, the Canucks were one of the worst defensive teams in the league this year, it was their offense and goalies that often got them wins.

Future Canucks
I think the Toffoli and Virtanen AAV's are too low; Toffoli will probably be 5-5.5 and Virtanen on a 2 or 3 year deal will command 2-3 mill.
As for the prospects, I'm excited to see what the two forwards can bring to the table once they make the show. On D, Juolevi should be a lock to be an NHL'er at some point if he can stay healthy, and I'm really hoping Woo can be as well. He's got the edge to his game that the team could use.
Other guys that may surprise if they get a shot in the bigs are Lind and Rafferty, with Rathbone a little farther down the line.

Canucks Much Needed Overhaul
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dboy81</b></div><div>I actually forgot to slot in a prospect there, usually I slide in K.Lind or J.Gadjovich to go along with the second. Would that be close?</div></div>
I honeslty don't think the Canucks can move that contract unless they take a bad one back. If you add Zack Smith to that trade, I'd say maybe.

I doubt it. Leafs had to send a 1st for a single year of a 6mil contract. Eriksson is on the books for three more years. it would take a 1st (that the Canucks don't have anymore) and probably a good prospects like Lockwood or Madden for a team to consider taking him.
If anything, the Canucks should retain 50% of his salary if they move him. 3 mill for 10 goals and a good PKer, there would definitely be a taker.

Fantastic evaluation.
With the evidence available I can assume that OP is...
a) meth-head
b) from Florida
c) an alligator

Trading some young and old pieces and FAs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dboy81</b></div><div>There is so much going on here, its very interesting. I'm guessing that the Luongo acquisition is to avoid cap recapture so I'm ok with that. The Lucic-Eriksson swap is nice since we get Jesse P! I don't know if the PK trade is enough, I'm guessing that we would still have to add. If Aspina25 is a rangers fan and likes this trade then I'm all over it too, just the fact that we get Shattenkirk in the deal makes me like it lol
All in all i think most of these trades excite me and id be interested to see if Benning could make anything like this happen.</div></div>
Right? Most of these guys I signed to 2 years as well except for the obvious Dzingle and Boeser so that the Canucks are able to manage both Pettersson and Hughes post ELC. 9 million available now and freeing up another 10 million. Petey and Hughes will both sign big deals using up a lot of that space, however with the trade for luongo and both Tanev and Spooner those contracts come off the books so there is the ability to trade with retainage on someone if need be. Overall if GMJB could see this and pull off even everything but the Subban deal I would be very pleased.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dboy81</b></div><div>Do you think that swapping K.Lind for O.Juolevi would be enough of an upgrade to make the trade appealing for Ottawa?
Ottawa gets: 1st round pick, 3rd round pick, O.Juolevi, and L.Eriksson?</div></div>
I think you need to either retain a ton on Eriksson (50%), or give up something else, which is why I was thinking Dipietro. Eriksson at $3 mil is an OK player. At $6? Yikes.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MajesticWalrus</b></div><div>This is actually a pretty good deal. Stone is more expensive than eriksson but might have to retain for this to work but ottawa gets a good prospect and a cap dump that can still play and another prospect and a 1st then 3rd. Pretty fair for someone hitting UFA</div></div>
The cost for Stone alone is reported to be a 1st+Roster player+prospect. Taking on Eriksson is going to cost a lot more.

Getting rid of Loui's contract will cost the 1st round pick (at minimum). No way Lind+Brisebois+3rd get you Stone.
I do like the basis of this though. Ottawa is definitely a team that could take his contract, I just see no way the Canucks get this done without giving up one of their top kids.
What about something along the lines of- Loui+1st (To get rid of Loui), +Dipietro+Juolevi+2nd?

A really bad trade with Ottawa

Basically a first for Stone and a first to get rid of Lucic's contract. It's an expensive trade and you'd be heavily gambling on Stone resigning but I think it's a vast upgrade for the Oilers and shaves off several years of digging out from Chiarelli's cap issues.
