Nice trade for a Timo rental, great way to ruin the near future of the franchise.

Zary was by far Calgary's best prospect at camp and could have made the team but like most smart team management groups they decided to let him develop more in the minors instead of blundering his development in the NHL</div></div>
Then keep him and everyone is happy.

He almost made it this year and if he was age eligible he would have been at Hartford this year. He is a lock to make it next season.

I didn't propose the trade, I said earlier in this thread that he is worth at least a 1st.
FYI you have zero proof that Othmann will be in the NHL at 21, and Zary can still make the NHL at 21, seasons far from over</div></div>
Lets talk about it next season when Othmann is playing on the Rangers.

Go back 10 years and find me a 2nd rounder that NYR drafted that made a difference.
2019 - Matthew Robertson, Karl Henriksson
2018 - Olof Lindbom
2015 - Ryan Gropp
2014 - Branden Halverson
2012 - Boo Nieves
2010 - Christian Thomas
2009 - Ethan Werek
2008 - Yevgeni Grachyov
2007 - Antoine Lafleur
2006 - Artem Anisimov
YOU HAVE TO GO BACK 16 YEARS BEFORE YOU FIND ONE THAT HAD A DECENT CAREER. 2nd rounders are shots in the dark and FYI-- almost every year they say it's a deeper draft. Even if you go back to 2018, 4 of the 30 picks have played in 100 games and no one has more than 51 points. (hint he was one of those 4, next highest is 34). Go the next year in 2019 and only 2 players have played more than 100 games (and the highest point total is 54 points).
anything outside the top 20 picks is a real shot in the dark. it always is. its is exceedingly rare that these players go on to make a difference, and when they do it isn't for YEARS. NYR cup contention is next 3-4 years.</div></div>
LOL. You have too much time on your hands. Still a no thanks from me.

I think that is a good deal for the rangers. You've seen how laf has been playing. Drury easily passes and Laffy isn't going to be a problem to sign, it's will be Miller and/or Chytil. They will get much more than Laffy.

How do you know Zary isn't a bust, he hasn't played a game in the NHL, and if he has such potential, WHY ONLY A 2ND ROUND PICK FOR HIM? If he has so much potential, KEEP HIM and be happy. And FYI, Othmann will be in the NHL at 21.

You got a 2nd for Lias Andersson in a deep draft and he was viewed as drastically worse at the time. Zary is easily worth a 1st still</div></div>
And how did LA like giving up that 2nd round pick for Lias? That's my point. NO THANKS.

Considering we have Brodzinski, Blais, Vesey, Goodrow, Hajek, and the new guy we claimed on waivers all on the NHL roster, Zary could easily make our team. I think CGY is doing the right thing and not rushing him like we did with Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil, Kravtsov, etc. We all saw how those guys have panned out so far. Stunted growth and development.
BTW, that 2nd round pick is 3-4 years away from actually playing a game in a NYR sweater. By that point, Panarin, Trouba, Lindgren, Kreider, are all gone. While Zary has the potential to make a difference this year. Stupid to say no to this trade.</div></div>
That's your opinion and you're welcome to it. Give up a good pick for an AHL player is silliness.

More Messy than Messier Drop trades in the comments
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bogdown</b></div><div>I mean sort of how the Rangers did with their rebuild. As much as I hated Gorton, he turned Nash into Miller, Lindgren, and Strome. He built around Kreider, Zibanejad, Fox, Panarin and Shesterkin. And Drury filled in the cracks with Goodrow, Trocheck, and Vesey.</div></div>
Yeah, sort of, but I don't think the Canucks need to tear it all the way down like the Rangers did. IMO, getting rid of Miller is the key, plus signing Horvat and Kuz. It may be painful to get another team to take Miller's contract, but you remove the cancer in your room. IMO anyway. Once you get out from under his contract, they can address the D issues.

Zary while maybe not a potential top line prospect, has the potential to be a solid 2nd line option where CGY is probably doing the right thing by letting him play in the AHL and develop, rather than rushing him into unrealistic expectations. While he isn't slide eligible, NYR jump on the opportunity to get a decent prospect for a 2nd round pick that may or may not make an impact in the future</div></div>
Keep dreaming. He can't make Calgary's team and you want a 2nd round pick in a deep draft year? Easy NO THANKS.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I never understood all the love for Rutherford when he was hired. And as you suggest had authority in ALL personal decisions.
Kinda reminds of the disastrous situation when the Leafs anointed Brian "The Brain" Burke, who had full authority. Yeah he talked really good on TV, but didn't do any effort into his job as President or GM of the club.
The trouble (in any business), when poor hirings are made, the people who hired them don't want to fire them either. It makes the the "hiring party" seem incompetent.
I'll disagree with on Kuzmenko. He should be traded for the best return. No reason to think he would return to the Canucks next season.</div></div>
IMO, the Canucks should get a new GM before they trade anyone. I know time is short, but Rutherford has lost it, and the way he handled the Miller non-trade and then signing, on top of Horvat now should be all the proof ownership needs to go in a new direction. Let a new GM come in, get a new coach and evaluate the options first. The team has a lot of very good, young players, so to just blow it up makes no sense to me, from the outside looking in anyway.

However, aren't the Rangers running into cap problems soon? Goodrow represents 4.4% of the total cap and he is worth every penny of it. Trading him will not solve their cap issues and only make the team worse.

Yeah, you and few other Buffalo fans keep posting trades for Goodrow giving the Rangers back players they don't need or want. The Rangers are not interested in trading him, for the reasons you posted, and I am guessing these is zero chance he would waive his NMC to play in Buffalo.
