Because McDavid took a discount if he wanted to he could have made the Oilers pay him a lot more

Yay for Dubas not breaking the RFA market
With everything i've seen, which i wont say i watch the jets religiously i would see Kyle Connor should be making more than Laine, or matching deals.

Most Overrated and Underrated and best
Tailing off at the end of their career does not make someone overrated, Marleau, Kronwall, Bouwmeester and methot are all old guys who had very good careers, and are nearing the end. it doesent make them overrated, maybe making a bit too much right now but thats about all.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Davisoc</b></div><div>The idea of Gardiner for another 8 years makes me sick. The steps he has lost already, I cant see the value making sense. As for Petro, this is sacrificing out future for a win now. Those rarely work, I dont like it and I dont think its smart. Washington Forsberg deal comes to mind.</div></div>
i dont know why people hate on gardiner so much, he hasnt been bad this year whatsoever, also you are comparing martin erat who has a career high of 58 points which is good but not close to elite to petro who put up 54 points as a dman. johnson and kappy are fast and good but the big question is if it is because of the situation they are in. i like them both but you you have to give good assets for good assets back, we may be able to swing another prospect but it all depends on fit.

I agree with above as well it is a potential waste of a trade as he seems to get injured quite a bit and leafs need to keep 5.5 M in salary cap to cover bonuses coming at the end of the year.

Cap going up to 83M add EK65
not a bad idea, buf is gonna be good for a while if they keep moving forward, i feel like hayes wouldnt be worth it because mittelstadt is due for a contract the year after and 6.5 M is a lot for a 3C now im not saying Casey is making 10 mil but you definately put your self in a really tough position the next year cap wise as you would have 6-7 players to resign or replace the year after. from what it looks like you have Reinhart, thompson, Mittelstadt, Pilut, Bogo,Girgensons and Sheary not to mention the year after having Nylander and Dahlin. this team would be real good for 1 year then run into some cap troubles like their northern counterparts in toronto. would be fun to see though.

Keep the Core Intact
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>That is actually completely incorrect, taxes are far more complex than that. I can't recall exactly what the numbers are but for Toronto to match a 9.5 million dollar deal with Florida, its only a million or so more. So 6.5 would be about a 7 million dollar deal in TO. TSN made a graph on this in the summer and I was surprised at how close it was. Sure it makes a difference but there are way more factors at play than just money. Facilities, endorsement opportunities etc.</div></div>
you are not wrong, wither way they are in the same position as TO so i doubt they will be able to make it work.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Look how well that idea is going in Toronto and Tampa isn't some magical land where people just accept less because they can. Kucherov was the last player to get a deal like that and it won't likely happen again.</div></div>
thats one of the positives of being in a tax sheltered market, 6.5 in tampa is like 8.5-9 in toronto

unless he takes 6.5 for 3 years and then takes 9-10 (if he keeps getting better and better) for 8 years

I think thats a big pay cut hes taking if he keeps up his pace, however maybe he has a head on his shoulders and would rather have a good chance to win a cup or 2 then when this contract is up go for the big ticket, not like that nylander guy

Nothing wrong with him but how many times do you see a back just have a small good run then crap the bed... look at Hammond a few years back for ottawa. A lot of the back ups play well in their turn but when it gets to try and run they crap the bed. I think they could both use a change of scenery may help could not

Proposed trade between Philly and TO
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tomkinoo</b></div><div>I don't like this trade but I also don't agree with you ^. Ghost is signed at a reasonable price for 3 more years making him way more valuable then Gardiner, and I think Simmonds would definitely reconsider signing in Toronto, a contender for the next five years, and his home city...</div></div>
I think Ghost is a slight upgrade on gards, he put up 65 points last year, i think hes a little better defensively, much better contract and is younger. i think simmonds plying with matthews and kappi would be pretty deadly, i picture him as a better hyman and kappi a slightly worse nylander. i know its not the super sought after stay at home RHD but i think its better than having nylander sit out and lose a season.

I think you are a little high on little, not only a NyQuil for Little straight would be closer but you are throwing in a probable top 3 pick and why you would want to take terry baffles me. either way they are all pretty bad trades.

kadris new line
Not completely against the Braun trade, don't know if that would cut it, i think Toronto would benefit from it and i get what you are mentioning as if SJ wants any chance at resigning Erik Karlsson, they will need the space. i don't think they make the trade unless they are really looking bad at the deadline because i think they would want to keep him for depth defense, unless they pick someone else up to fill in the gap for less money. could potentially see it in the off season. Maybe bracco and 2nd,3rd,6th would entice them a little more but i wouldn't go much further than that. also if Nash wants to win a cup he wont care about making 6 mill a year buddy is loaded enough already and if the leafs wanted to make a couple trades to bring in a couple rentals that cap space would be nice, i could see him sign for like 3 mill or less for a chance to win. I think its the right direction maybe wrong team to fish defense off of. Also i don't think you are getting rid of Gardiner if you are making a run at a cup, unless he really shits the bed.

TAVARES'S GREATEST SEASONS ARE ABOUT TO START
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickC1988</b></div><div>I have a legitimate question. What makes you think this team, with an identical D core to last season's team, is going to go any farther because they added more offense? The same D core that gave up 5+ goals vs Boston in round 1 THREE times. In the playoffs. That's pretty alarming.</div></div>
The thing is that Tavares is a good center in his own zone which will help, Zaitsev had a bad year last year, but don't blame him coming back from mono and losing weight doesn't make it easy, i expect him to bounce back. Gardiner has potential, take away game 7 and he wasn't terrible if he plays with zaitsev and zaitsevs back to full potential could be a good pairing, reilly is real solid on the blue line and dermott should only improve if he stays up with the big club. hainsey is pk d man who will get like 8-10 mins a night and oz and carrick might be able to help take some pk time away from zaitsev to keep him a little more fresh. We will see what happens i know i am excited to see them play they have a long season to figure it out and find something that works.

5 Team Involvement
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>While I like the creativity with this 5-team deal, it seems extremely complex and I cannot see a situation where the Leafs help out the Lightning in any way to make this deal happen. The fact that Karlsson may end up on the team who is arguably the Leafs biggest competition is, I am sure, not something they'd want to be apart of. I can imagine Tampa's feeling is mutual.</div></div>
I agree but i also think that is why toronto is getting more back from tampa for a 4th round pick and a prospect
