Deadline Swap

Canucks fan and Sabres sympathizer. Who else could possibly relate to decades of suffering?
Friedman reported we were interested in Greenway. Figured this could be a decent landing spot for Mik, who needs a fresh start. Toughness always carries value at the deadline though, so I could see an overpay for Greenway from someone.

Boeser
Doubt the Canucks would be interested in making this type of deal with Boeser unless NYI was adding more.
Garland, however, could work IMO. Isles get their scoring winger and the Canucks get their 3C as basically equal cap hits.

What’s your guys opinion?</div></div>
You think Garland and Myers alone is worth Sanheim and a first? Even taking out the swap of picks that's skewed heavily to the Vancouver side.

Interesting trade idea, could potentially work for both sides. Philly may want more though.
Sanheim/Hronek would be a really good pairing.

Canucks probably take that. Less offensive upside with Jarnkrok, but a better fit for the bottom-6 and a significant cap savings.

That's probably fair value for Boeser, I'd strongly consider that.
Management seems to be committed to working with him though, not sure if they would pull the trigger.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>You cant nitpick whom is a good fit at 3C, Granlund isnt even my idea in this thread but i agree with it because its not the real issue here. I think the priority for the Canucks is cap flexibility not finding a temp solution in the 3 hole. No trade fixes every issue in the org which a lot ppl here have a hard time understanding otherwise that other Nucks fan in here wouldnt reject every trade which he laughably does time in and time out. Its a piece of the puzzle. Its generally said as taking a loss now for a win later on.</div></div>
Agreed on most of your points, a lot of people are very short sighted and don't look 2, 3, 4 moves down the road. This trade doesn't immediately solve our main issues? Bad trade.
That said, flexibility is still one of the goals for the Canucks going into free agency, but it's far less critical now after the OEL buyout. Prior to that, I could see giving up Garland for peanuts. Pens may not be a great fit now that the Canucks aren't over the barrel and no longer need to dump a winger for nothing.

I don't think Granlund has much value for the Canucks, Pens would have to add more than they would be comfortable with IMO. I think he could still produce in a sheltered offensive role, but he wouldn't be a good fit for 3C in Vancouver.

I figured a 2nd rather than a pair of 3rds would be somewhere in the ballpark, but Vancouver doesn't have one until 2025. Maybe some retention on Garland could even things out. I don't think there's a huge gap in value here, but only if Dubas thinks Garland can get some top-6/PP time.

Canucks take that deal after adding a sweetener. And Myers probably looks decent as a 3rd pairing, 15-minute a night guy.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bogdown</b></div><div>Like the ideas but don’t like the free agent signings. Think this team needs to spend less and trust the young guys more. Maybe one of two depth PK guys like Motte or Hathaway for cheap, but Aman and Joshua have been good. Mikkola is no better than Wolanin, Rathbone, or Brisebois. Garland would probably get dealt before Boeser.</div></div>
Appreciate the response. I'm not 100% sold on these FA's being the solution and wouldn't be opposed to having some of the younger guys take bigger roles.
We have a huge hole to plug at 3C, and there aren't many attractive options available. Maybe we could go the trade route there.
We're also in desperate need of upgrades in the top-4 at LD and RD. Thankfully there are actually several FA options there who would be a huge upgrade over Myers and OEL. Gavrikov, Graves, Mayfield, Severson, Soucy, etc. Lots of combinations that could work.

Is this dumb
I should probably clarify my reasoning for this one.
The latest Friedman rumor was that Horvat could go to the Bruins "long term", so this wouldn't be a rental. To be able to re-sign Horvat, the B's would need to shed cap. Guys like Grzelcyk, Coyle, Forbort, Reilly, etc would have to be on the chopping block. Can't see the Canucks having any interest in those guys, Carlo is about the only one who would make sense from their side.
Schenn fills his spot for this year's cup run, but it leaves a big hole next year. Is it dumb? Yeah probably, but who knows.

Probably no too far off value-wise, maybe swap Gurianov for Faksa and bump it up to a 2024 1st. Harley would be a good get, Canucks would probably want a young C or RD though.
Is Dellandrea a non-starter? I feel like he could be a centerpiece in a Horvat trade.
