Ullmark waives for security
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>This trade gets Blake fired, I'd help him pack his bags.</div></div>
Keeping PLD and doing nothing stands a better chance of getting him fired than acquiring a goalie who likely would provide a significant improvement in that system to what you have. It’s a stronger argument than 8.5m to a 3rd line center with a polarizing personality.
It also frees up cap space to keep Roy or Arvidssen. Both if you sign Byfield to a bridge deal.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drambui</b></div><div>so he choose to get traded to avoid being traded?I dont get it.</div></div>
Getting traded in season while being an expiring is different than choosing your location, moving your family, and getting security, Not sure how that isn’t obvious.
He’d likely be living away from his family if traded during the season and have to do the move next year. It’s less change for his kids and less separation. Its why his current no trade clause isn’t as relevant because if a team is willing to extend him, its a significant parameter that could change his mind,
He doesn’t even consider it without an extension with no trade protections (which the Kings seem willing to give).

You need 4 top 4 Ds. No hate to Siegenthaler, but Guhle would be an upgrade and an even bigger one long-term
But honestly, I don't think NJ or MTL does this, since we're keeping our own guys

I think the role for holtz could be anything in the top 9
Depends on fit and performance but maybe a sniper role with Nico or Hughes. Maybe a 3rd line role with vets like Haula and Palat.

Snuggerud isn't worth the 5th overall pick imo, I still take a guy like Demidov or maybe Catton/Iginla over him

I think MTL will have better prospects available at 5 so they’d probably pass. Plus I’m still very excited about the prospect of Thomas feeding snuggerud for a decade. I think he’s setting up for a massive season for the gophers after acknowledging he wasn’t good enough last season

Our D need another 150 games each. Hopefully some of them are like Guhle and you can see the upward trajectory. Harris and Barron REALLY disappointed this season.

Sometimes common knowledge is wrong
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drambui</b></div><div>wanting to be the caps is a weird take out from all of this. dont want my team to be the caps, they barely made the playoff with an aging core.</div></div>
I am not saying I want to be the Caps. I am saying that sometimes people on this site especially, are scared to support a contrarian opinion.
There is not one person who commented on this thread, including me, who thought the Caps would make the playoffs.
I'm sure everyone expects them to lose in the 1st round as well.
The point I'm trying to make is, I think there are reasonable moves the Habs can make which will not sacrifice the future, but get them to a much better present. Giving 5-6 years to one, or even two, 30 year old vets is not a terrible way to build this team.
Handing top 6 minutes or even NHL roles to players who have not earned them, is.
I do not expect us to be the Caps. I expect us to be the Habs and not a failed clone of the Colorado Avalanche.

Also, there's no way Anaheim gives you one of their 1st rounders for him. That pick is still likely a lottery pick and possibly a top 5 pick, something that Necas isn't worth</div></div>
Agreed. I would make that offer as the Anaheim GM without the third (pick #65) and with top-10 protection on the first.

Mailloux called up Bye Barron
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Andy_Dick</b></div><div>Anyone that lived through the 90s and played sports has seen way worse in locker rooms, hell, high school. And, Mailloux was a minor at the time, everyone deserves second chances for something so minor when you are talking about sharing photos. Its was a dumb mistake, he was trying to show off. I remember whole folders of such photos. It was everywhere.
And, I guarantee that Joel Quenneville will be back in the game despite being complicit in covering up actual rape in the Blackhawks organization The problem was that Mailloux left himself open to the trolls and hearsay.</div></div>
This isn't the 90's first off and I doubt the girl he did it to or her family think its "minor". Having said that, I agree everyone deserves a second chance, especially young kids, but lets not act like what he did was a minor infraction of some kind.
