I think the value is more than fair on this deal. Just depends on whether the Sabres brass like the player. If they do, I think they would part with a 2023 3rd in a heartbeat

That's not that easy a comparison. Hoffman is 6 years older and has not reached 20 goals since before the pandemic. One would expect he might be ready to fall even further off the cliff while Oloffson should be able to keep the same level of production over the next 4 years, maybe even increase if he is given more than a bottom 6 / 2nd PP role

Hardly a gamble the guy has been not good for a few years and is not suited to be anymore than a 6th or 7th dman at this point. Sabres would be better off just keeping Jokiharju in that role if they see this as the best option outside the organization that 6 million cap number would allow

Gtcha, lol. Much different city than it was 18 years ago especially when you talk about the waterfront downtown area. A big part of the reason the city hosts the combine every year now and all of the players seem to rave about it

If that is the mentality of many of their teams players it sounds like they would need a significant shake up of the core to prevent that from repeating itself moving forward. Have you lived in both Buffalo and Calgary?

Hard to say Calgary is closer to contending than the Sabres. Buffalo missed the playoffs by only 1 point with the youngest team in the nhl and lots of cap space going into next year. Also Calgary just fired their coaching staff. Not usually a move you make if you feel your team was simply "unlucky"

Maybe Markstrom won't waive maybe he will. May decide he would rather go to an up and coming young team with a great young d core rather than going through a rebuild/retool in Calgary. Especially when it appears they are ready to give the net to Wolf. As for Anderson this is a solid return and if Calgary wants to rebuild he again may be a guy who says he doesn't want to be a part of that

Can't see how these deals would not be good for Buffalo. Anderson would be almost the ideal partner for Power and Buffalo's system. He is on a great contract for 3 years and Markstrom provides insurance in case Levi cannot handle the full work load. Martinez is a great veteran presence to add on the third pair that can elevate into the top 4 if there are injuries and should be able to handle that without getting run over

He won't be getting the PP minutes in Buffalo so that should help in that aspect. And yes his Cap hit could hurt in 24-25, but the Sabres also have a very good chance of having atleast 6 guys on ELC's or 1st contracts that year. Plus if the bonus is paid Pegula will actually be paying him almost 2mill under his Cap hit for the last 2yrs. Like I have stated not my 1st choice and would only do this around FA when I know what my D situation is. If things haven't fallen the way we hoped and we weren't able to land something we wanted. Then this wouldn't be a bad backup option short term.</div></div>
1.5 under his cap number on average 1.75 and 1.25 respectively. I don't think with the building likely being full in the next couple of years their will be the same kind of squeeze on actual cash being paid out anymore, but obviously the cap number is fixed each year.

Petry is better but not free. He has a significant cap number and very possibly could have his game fall off a cliff at any point at his age especially if he is logging top 4 minutes. His cap number would not likely be an issue in 23-24, but in 24-25 when Power, Dahlin, Mitts, and Krebs will all be under new deals that # could really be a problem

Hell maybe in a year he steady's his game and becomes the 22-23min muncher, but he's not ready for it yet.</div></div>
Believe me I am no fan of Hank, but as you can tell I am no fan of Petry either. Hits don't matter to me nor do blocked shots that much either. I prefer someone who is better at simply preventing the other team from getting shots off. Preventing zone entries and excelling at zone exits and maintaining puck possession

Petry averaged more ice time due to running PP2 for Pittsburgh. He averaged 2.2 minutes per game more on the Pp than Pettersson which equals their difference 8n ice time. He would not be getting any of that PP time in Buffalo behind Dahls and Power. Their done start percentage is negligible about 1.5 percent. Both had slightly higher dzone starts than ozone. I am more interested in what the players did relative to their deployments rather than how the pens chose to use them

We can afford his cap hit, however I don't see him as a good partner for Power. Power at this point struggles defensively and that is the weakest part of Petry's game. He is terrible at zone entry denials and he has struggled recently with zone exits as well. We need a strong defensively minded partner for Power and that is not Petry

Making Trades with BUF
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>I think we’re both biased and perhaps over value our own players. This proposal really comes down to needs and I see BUF Fans looking to turf Olofsson & Luukkonen on here all the time to make room for the next guys
BUF could use a Big Physical 3LD since Stillman isn’t that good. BUF Fans are always calling for help at RD, so DeSimone might offer something. He had a great year for the Wranglers. Vladar is far better and starter ready than I think you want to give him credit for
As for Krebs, he’s no better than Ruzicka and the other two guys are just replacement players for our prospect pipeline in exchange for better prospects.
You’d be getting a recent 3rd Round Picked Russian Centre (ps Centres typically play all 3 forward positions) and a Huge Czech Right Shot RW, something you don’t have and need. Besides that, both would be a great fits with/for the rest of your Russian & Czech Prospects
Both Trades are closer and fit each Team’s needs better than you think, but we can always agree to disagree if you want</div></div>
Sabres already have top 3 centers in place with Tage, Cozens, and Middlestadt. RFA in Jost who will likely be back.Prospects coming in Kulich, Savoie, and Oustlund, who are all playing center and all progressing quite nicely. Also Stillman played quite well for the Sabres down the stretch. He is clearly a 3rd pair or 7th defenseman on a strong team and does not have upward mobility but none of these players from Calgary add to Buffalos need for a top 4 veteran defense oriented right D

Teams value Anderson's body type and speed. These arent nobodies saying that Anderson is worth a 1st plus an A prospect. This is Pierre Lebrun and Frank Seravelli. The same ppl that nailed the Chiarot price last season among others. I'm not being close to ridiculous or 'wild' if anything this price is low
You need to actually digest what I'm saying before responding. There is a clear disconnect.
The guy that will prevent the Devils from retaining those yougn pieces is Timo Meier with a 10M qualifying offer. Believe it or not Anderson's cost certainty is worth something, Seravelli has said this over and over. Meier's contract talks aren't something teams cherish.</div></div>
I guess a first, young roster player, and a prospect were not enough for Hughes. Anderson must to be to important of a piece on the rebuild to let go of
