How about adding Ty Nelson to that Olofsson deal, especially if we are Retaining half.

Hard no on Anderson. He's a stud and getting rid of markstrom isn't worth that. Id rather just let markstrom rebound a bit and then trade him.

OK, how about something that actually helps the Sabres? The Sabres will send Olofsson and retain half his contract, and they’ll include a draft pick if they have to, to get Borgen back. If that deal goes through you can ignore the other two. They aren’t really good for Buffalo anyway.

If the Sabres contemplate trading UPL, I don't see it happening until sometime during next season once Levi is a proven commodity like he looks like he will be. It's not happening at the draft........

Interesting ideas, though I doubt Seattle will be interested in either. The Kraken already have Sprong as an offense-minded depth winger, so I don't think Olofsson will be enough of a trade target for them to warrant giving up their second pair RHD or a solid prospect at a position where the team doesn't have much prospect depth.

Andersson isn't going anywhere, Markstrom won't waive to go to Buffalo. And i seriously doubt Martinez does either.

He's an RFA this offseason, but with his performance this season and how well he has fit with the team since landing in Seattle, I don't think he's going anywhere.

You're all good, it can be tricky to figure out who's a pending RFA and who's a pending UFA sometimes

IMO UPL is worth more than a third especially at that cap number for a team like Vegas. So in this scenario they aren't "paying" to move Martinez

Can't see how these deals would not be good for Buffalo. Anderson would be almost the ideal partner for Power and Buffalo's system. He is on a great contract for 3 years and Markstrom provides insurance in case Levi cannot handle the full work load. Martinez is a great veteran presence to add on the third pair that can elevate into the top 4 if there are injuries and should be able to handle that without getting run over

Maybe Markstrom won't waive maybe he will. May decide he would rather go to an up and coming young team with a great young d core rather than going through a rebuild/retool in Calgary. Especially when it appears they are ready to give the net to Wolf. As for Anderson this is a solid return and if Calgary wants to rebuild he again may be a guy who says he doesn't want to be a part of that

You’re missing the point that Calgary isn’t parting with Anderson, and Markstrom has a no trade clause, so that deal may as well be Null and void. Martinez is an incredibly expensive third pairing left defender on a team that simply doesn’t need more left defenders.

Further to the post above, CGY is nowhere close to needing a rebuild/retool or giving Wolf the net

The Flames are much closer to contending than BUF is as well, so we not tearing it down or moving key pieces. It was just an unlucky year. We only missed the playoffs by 2 points 🤦‍♂️

Hard to say Calgary is closer to contending than the Sabres. Buffalo missed the playoffs by only 1 point with the youngest team in the nhl and lots of cap space going into next year. Also Calgary just fired their coaching staff. Not usually a move you make if you feel your team was simply "unlucky"

It’s generally the move you make when you’re going to have a new GM and want to give them a fresh start and let them choose their own Coaching staff

It also happens when a bunch of snowflake Professional Hockey Players whine & complain and push the Coach out

In any event, CGY’s got a much better Team, specifically with their Defence and Goaltending and it’s a substantially nicer City and better place to live too

If that is the mentality of many of their teams players it sounds like they would need a significant shake up of the core to prevent that from repeating itself moving forward. Have you lived in both Buffalo and Calgary?

Yeah, I wish we wouldn’t have signed Kadri, but it is what it is and once we’re winning and back on Top our Division, it won’t be a problem anymore

I’ve been to BUF and it wasn’t the nicest City or Experience tbh. CGY on the other hand is Beautiful and close to the Mountains

Seems to be a difficult task to hop over Vegas,, Edmonton,, LA at this point. None of them showing signs of fading back to the pack anytime soon..
not to mention Seattle.. Where in Buffalo were you? What did you do there?

I’m telling you we have a really good team and can shut all those Teams down. Just need a bounce back season

I don’t remember. I think we went to Buffalo looking for Wings and ended up in a real dive. Driving the highway it looked like parts were just empty and abandoned

Probably 18 years ago now already. We were in Mississauga/Toronto for a conference and decided to drive down to Niagara Falls and got hungry, so we said “Buffalo isn’t that far and they make good wings” and so on we went. The US Border Officer just laughed when we told them where we were going and why
