A Very Active Draft Day
Don't draft goalies in the 1st round. Ever. Since 08 the only 1st round goalie worth a damn has been Vasilevskiy. And even then, you can't put him right in your lineup. I'm hesitant to be bullish on Knight simply because of who was in front of him. Kurashev won't play with the Hawks this year. His contract can slide a second year. Soderlund will be AHL bound.

Kapanen is 22 and had a 44 point year. Saad will be 27 making 6million and has had more than 53 points. 1 year removed from a 35 point year. Hayden and Sikura have shown absolutely nothing.

2nd round pick in 2017. Played for Canada at the WJC this year. He essentially took over the role left by Will Butcher at Denver.

Swapping picks w CHI
There was another Montreal thread with this scenario. Chicago won't fall back to 15. Maybe 6-8. MAYBE. But as for Drouin....he's a 50 point player that plays almost no defense. The Hawks were 6th in the league in scoring. And 30th in goals against. They don't need or want a player like Drouin.

Byram. None of the current D-prospects other than Jokiharju can defend. Podkolzin other than the Hlinka was just OK and you have no clue when or if he's coming over. I'd be OK with Turcotte or Cozens. Caulfield may be like Debrincat...but they've already got the original. Scoring wasn't an issue for this team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MTLaveragefan</b></div><div>- But you still get to pick third, I understand that NYR are big on russians. So it would be an incentive to pick Pod instead of Kappo.
you would get Suzuki, Teasdale + Pod for Kakko...
Kakko played against men and still produced. Podkolzin is way overrated. Had a good Hlinka, but his numbers after have been meh.
It's not that huge of a gap... not Suzuki (94 pts in 59 gp- OHL) + Teasdale (80pts (43 G)- 66gp- QMJHL) + a15th picks of the 2019 draft.
Kakko is good, but he is not McDavid nor Hugues....</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MTLaveragefan</b></div><div>interesting point of view, thank you.
Primeau would be a replacement for Crawford (in 1-2 years).
it is a big drop, but your core is still good even if they are on the downslope now. CHI hasn't committed to a rebuild yet. So this tride could help then get back into contention... but you are right, if defending was an issue, then Trading Gustafsson is not the solution.</div></div>
Chicago picks 3rd. They absolutely have committed to a rebuild. They traded Hartman last year for a 1st. They traded Wingels as well. They don't have the expiring deals to make further trades a reality. They have a goalie in Russia a few are high on. They have the kid in Halifax, Gravel some are high on. They also have Collin Delia that's been pretty good with a porous defense in front of him.

Absolutely not for Chicago. The move from 3 to 15 is way too big. Primeau does nothing for me. Drouin is way too one dimensional. The Hawks had no problems putting points up. Defending was their issue. If the Hawks move back it would be from 3 to 8 ish.

DETROIT
Rangers proposed trade would put them 2 million over cap.
The Detroit trade is interesting. However, the Wings need to shed salary...as do the Ducks. Ducks have a budget and wings would still be over the cap even after they LTIR Franzen. Player wise it works, dollar wise I don't think it works. I don't think it works for what either team needs to do.
As far as Arizona...Chayka might be new. But he's not that dumb.

Vermette reunion, plus a big addition
Why would you want Zidlicky? They already have Rozsival, Gustafsson, Svedberg, and Pokka. You're going to carry Nick Schmaltz on the roster....but have him as a healthy scratch? Send him down, bank the space and play him in Rockford. Or put him in the top 6 here. Vesey's deal will be the max cap hit of 925k plus 2.825 in bonuses. Kempny has a possible 225k in bonuses. Panarin has roughly 2.5 million. Campbell has 750 for 10 games played. Theres 6.275 in cap space you wouldnt have next year if you exhaust every dollar this year.If you can convince Vermette, who was scratched by Quenneville at times to sign, thats 1 million you wont have next year that you could use to retain Panarin. Schmaltz at least starts in Rockford. Motte may not, especially if Vesey can't be signed.

With Vesey
1. Vesey's hit will be the max at .925 not 900....wherever he lands. And its not only not a sure thing. Its a long shot
2. Schmaltz probably isnt a center...much less a bottom 6 type. Too much skill. IF..big if..he makes the opening night roster itll be on the right side.
3. Dump Svedberg. PLEASE
4. I'd prefer Panik as 4LW with Desjardins playing C and Tootoo on RW. Hossa with Kruger and Motte. Schmaltz at 2lw
5. Mashinter and Tootoo being on the roster are mutually exclusive. Its one or the other.

Simple yet solid
Hossa isn't a first line player anymore. Colin greening never was a 1st line player. Tyler Motte had a 40%faceoff percentage... In college. He's a left wing. Defense doesn't look bad although I'd maybe consider flipping Pokka and TVR. I like keeping Hjalmarsson off the right side. Lots of turnovers.

2016/2017 Hawks
Vesey probably does go to the B's. But I can dream can't I?
Regarding Campbell and Doan. Campbell is probably rich. Was initially thinking 2.5-3. But went heavy just to see the cap implications. Doan has voiced his displeasure with the Coyotes prior to this season starting. He's got one last chance if he wants his name on the cup. Love to see it happen ala Kimmo. It was Doan or Shaw for that slot. I'd prefer Shaw, but realistically his rights are dealt to dump Bickell.
