I think the others have illuded to the same thing I'm about to say. I tend to think this is one of those "lose -lose" trades. Hawks fans don't really want to trade Seth Jones away. Was that a bad trade by Bowman. Yes, absolutely. Is $9.5M too much for what he's provided the last 2 years. Yes to that as well. I think its only by a little, but I'd still agree to it. Agreeing to those two things doesnt mean I HAVE to want to trade Jones. I don't. And that doesn't mean we should be pursuing pending UFAs at all unless potentially a 1 year UFA deal. Even WITH an extension in place...wouldn't that just be Seth Jones 2.0? Hopefully Kyle Davidson isn't pulling a Stan Bowman.
On the VERY off chance Marner says ok to Chicago...I'm open, but everyone would then have to realize it's still going to be better off for TOR to keep him. It would have to get toxic in TOR...His hometown...for it to be worth sending him to CHI.

Marner would probably only say yes to the other big shiny cities; California, Florida and NY, maybe he says yes to reunite with Dubas.</div></div>
Have you ever been to Pittsburgh? Chicago is a GREAT city.

Punishing PLD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>CHI is nowhere near the same point with Reichel as LAK is with Kaliyev. That is a false equivalency, and there is no way to justify that. There is definitely a case to be made for CHI having interest in Kaliyev, though.
PLD will cost significantly more to move. That is still one of the biggest head scratcher trade AND contracts of the last few years. Someone brought up the Flames with Huberdeau, but they were essentially forced to get the best deal possible for Tkachuk, at which point it just made sense to re-sign Huber. LAK's traded too many assets for a mid 2nd line center, that probably won't age very well and already has a history of asking for trades and overplaying his hand.</div></div>
Friedman was discussing the LAK possibly buying him out immediately after the Cup Finals if they end early because he's still only 25 years old so his buyout would be 1/3 the contract vs 2/3.

Hawks aren't interested in PLD and while I'd take a flyer on Kaliyev...it won't be for Reichel. Understood he didn't have a good year, but we're not interested in trading him away. What about Isaak Phillips? Physical LD.

We have the cap space. I'd say the route toward the 2nd is more realistic.

Yeah, but you can't beat that contract. 6 years for what would be one of the best contracts in the league. Also, Johnny could be free to be Johnny in CAR. He's not the main focus like he is with CBJ. He'll have more open ice in CAR to do what he does.

move from the 5 to the 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shanesaw9</b></div><div>You could probably take out the Colorado 2nd and that would still be considered fair value... question is why? There's a legitimate chance Demidov is available at 5, Michkov didn't go until 7th last year.</div></div>
I agree that the real question for both teams is why. It'll be a tough spot. MTL will HAVE to think there's a clear guy a #2 and CHI would have to be indifferent for the guys 2-5. The Hawks need high end talent more than shear picks. We have more picks than MTL right now anyway. I'm talking to other Hawks fans about us possibly being already at the point where were almost forced to move up in the draft because you simply can't draft everyone in a draft.

In all sincerity, if he'd accept a 2 year deal I'd pay him $12M per and give him the same total amount of money for a year less of service. Heck, for a 2 year deal I'd consider more as well.

I hope not. We need physical veterans specifically on the right side because well be icing 3 very young dmen on the left.
Truth be told, I want them to sign another physical veteran on the right...not get rid of one.

I'm not so sure they do. Maybe my "obviously" was a bit harsh, but that's a lot of draft picks and while Raymond is good. It's rushing a rebuild. Raymond is a good player, but I don't think they rush the rebuild unless it's for a great player.

Because of a few reasons. It's ALOT of risk. He hasn't played in over 2 years already and you don't do favors for free. Hawks already have Mrazek for the starter role and three goalies that need NHL ice time.

Because they need the cap space if he's trying to make a comeback. They need to be cap complaint on day 1 of next season. Means they can't use that $5M in cap if he's coming back.
