Timmins is still caught with concussion symptoms so nothing is certain in his case. And Meloche must win a place in the top 6 at the training camp otherwise I think they send him to the Eagles to play as much games as possible. If he had to play just 15-20 games as 7th or 8th defenseman for Avs I'm not sure it's good for him. Don't forget that you get a solid 2nd line C (Draisaitl) in the Barrie deal. Benning has an honest game but no WOW I agree. Let's compare it to Barberio, but right-handed. I wanted a right-handed defender absolutly in the trade. I honestly prefer a guy with more upside like Ethan Bear but Edm probably said no...

Take Greiss is you have to but I wouldnt even think he would back up, they are pretty high so far on the guy from the KHL they signed, Francouz...goalie of the year .946 and .953 back to back seasons...thats crazy</div></div>
Yep, having Greiss as back-up for 1 year is not bad if it allows you to get a good prospect (Bellows) for Varlamov. Francouz is the clear-cut # 3 right away and is the one who will get the callup in case of injury.

Think more about Varlamov for Neuvirth + a prospect like Pascal Laberge. Neuvirth is the perfect backup to Grubauer this year with Francouz being the #1 in the AHL.
Kamenev will be special and will have the chance to be an important part of the puzzle this year. You keep him.

Gimme that Karlsson
Sakic is comfortably seated in the boss's chair. If OTT absolutely want their 1st rounder back, they will have to pay a king ransom. This pick is worth gold, especially because OTT may be the worst team in 2019 and that #1 prospect will be Jack Hugues. No way I give anything more. For me it would be like: You want the pick back? It's Karlsson with a contract extension agreement. Or it's Mark Stone plus the 22nd pick overall (from PIT). That's king ransom. Sakic doesn't have to move. In the worst case, OTT will choose to leave the 4th overall this year to close the Duchene deal immediately. Or it may be Jack Hugues next year :-)

Yes maybe it will be available at 16th, because there are many good players, lots of "safe picks" in the first round. On the other hand if you see Kravtsov as a home run, a move-up may be worth considering. I looked at the lists of some websites and saw him ranked as high as 6th. There will always be the "Russian factor" to scare some GM but I have the impression that Kravtsov could be the hidden card of this draft.

There is also the fact that how bad Shaw is and his contract with how that would diminish any trade value. Value isn there for the Habs regardless, but Shaw is basically colin wilson in terms of production with 4 times the term left</div></div>
Shaw did not work at all in MTL plus he had several injuries. But he's only 26 so I'll take a chance with him. I would like to see again the Andrew Shaw version who was so effective in Chicago a few years ago. When he's healthy, this guy can be a real killer especially in the Playoffs.

Yeah Nemeth and Wilson AHL guys,,, lol. Nemeth would have been one of your top LHD this year in MTL. Big guy and only 26 year old. Just check his stats. Better than Schlemko, Benn and Alzner. I agree that Wilson did not have a great season in COL but he's an effective 3rd line center and he can play on both wings as well. Soderberg is your replacement for Plekanec. So 2 centers (what is sorely lacking in MTL) and a good LHD are not worth Hudon and Shaw? Ask Claude Julien and he will tell you that he takes this players tomorrow morning at the first hour.

Ok take off the 3rd maybe but I think Chiarelli would do this fast enough. It's shocking to see how Barrie is constantly undervalued. Guy is in the league Top 10 best d-men for years. He has 0.83 PPG production this year, only next to Karlsson among NHL all d-men. Come on... Barrie will become the Oilers #1 d-man instantly. No need to say Chiarelli has already done a lot much much worse in his dealings... (Seguin to Dallas, Hall for Larsson straight up, Eberle for Strome or that 16th overall pick from 2015 (Matt Barzal) for Griffin Reinhart... ok ok I'm stopping)

Except that I would play Kamenev instead of Kerfoot. Kerf looks emptied, litteraly out of gas. Only 6G 2A in his last 30 games played. I would give a fair shot at Kamenev on the Soda line.

Way too Early Avs 2018 opening
No need to spend big $$$ on Stastny when you have Kamenev waiting and ready for the show. Kamenev is the most natural 2C for AVS in the forseeable future. He has good vision, strong passing skills and can shoot too. Also has a good defensive game and can win faceoffs. I think Bednar should slot Kamy straight into the 2C spot at the end of his AHL conditionning stint. Don't spend a 1st round pick on a goalie. You just have to sign a good FA backup to Varlamov (maybe Antti Raanta) and sign a couple NCAA FA projects (Cale Morris, Jake Kielly, Tanner Jaillet for example) for depth.

Blockbuster
If you want a 22 years old center Hart Trophy candidate like MacKinnon, you have to give a ton of quality young players and draft picks. Absolutely no interest in Pacioretty. Even I'm not sure that the Avs will ever think of trading their franchise player here, if you try and just want a chance they don't hang up the phone violently you're better off submitting a STUNNING offer. And takes note that they want your ticket for the Dahlin lotto. Concretely it means MTL would sent prospects Ryan Poehling, Joni Ikonen, Cale Fleury plus roster players like Galchenyuk and Hudon, the 2018 lotto pick, plus a 2018 2nd rounder and another 1st rounder in 2020. It's the kind of price to pay for a MacKinnon. You can take Yakupov and Greer back if you want :-)

Continue Rebuild at Deadline
Like the Barrie proposal but I think the Isles must add a 1st rounder to achieve this deal. HUGE overpayment on Burakovsky. If you trade EJ in order to continue the rebuild, you must make sure you have at least 3 good pieces in return. I mean Burakovsky, a 1st rounder, plus a defender who can play immediately on the right side. I think of Madison Bowey.

Just to remember Bergevin gave only Sergachev for Drouin. Fair deal. Who in hell would be crazy enough to give 3 prospects + a 1st rounder for Drouin now that he's on pace for a 13g and 47pts season for MTL ?
Maybe Druuuu will explode with MacK in COL but wait... MAYBE ! Definitely worth a 1st rounder + maybe one prospect like Bigras or Meloche or Greer, but not the whole package.

Pens and Caps trades
I said no. Ian Cole is very meh. Guy in the same class as Barberio or Holden but with a bigger paycheck. No need for that. Soderberg play like a beast this year. No way I take Hagelin in return. Plus a 3rd pick vs a 5th ? NO. If Avs goes that way with Pens the return is better to be worth it and fits the new philisophy here: younger and faster. That means PROSPECTS. Better look at Zach Aston-Reese, Dan Sprong, Dominik Simon, Tom DiPauli or Filip Gustavsson.

look at the 7 pieces trade for Duchene if you want Tavares: 2 goods F prospects (Kamenev + Bowers), 1 D (Girard), 1 G (Hammond) + 3 picks (1st, 2nd, 3rd)... and Tavares value is better than Duchene. It would be a robbery from Bergevin if Garth Snow says yes to that proposal. Maybe you should find a 3rd partner for that deal.

Yeah... but Holland is screwed with the cap and unable to sign AA at is fair value. If he can get rid of that stupid $4M cap hit for Mrazek, add a decent player plus a pick... I think
it will be worth thinking about it for Kenny. In fact I don't understand why no team has yet signed AA to an offer sheet. 3 years at $3.33M/per and Holland will have no choice but to take the 2nd rounder. :-)

a Colorado trade for a C
Yeah, think Soda is no longer a fit for COL. But a guy like him could be really effective as 3rd center on a team like Pens. Maybe back to a 40-45 points rate. If I was in Sakic shoes I would not hesitate to retain part of his salary (maybe $1M - $1.5M) if I can get a prospect and/or a pick in return. This is dead money anyway... way better than a buyout!

It's pretty clear that Butcher wants to play for a contender, not for COL. So he may agree to sign with Hawks before the trade takes place (COL gives permission to speak with) It's a win-win. For sure COL will have to eat half of Duchene salary in that scenario. Otherwise it doesn't work.

do not like your hires. Franson is meh, often injured. Nesterov was playing s***** hockey in MTL last winter. Pretty sure he will go back to KHL soon. Of what remains on UFA D
I might give Jyrki Jokipakka a chance to prove himself , but not more. Let's play Chris Bigras, Andrei Mironov and Duncan Siemens. Don't spend money on Stafford. If you want a vet player you better have a Jagr for 1 year and at least it will help the ticket sales. Vanek is also availaible for cheap. Bringing Dan Winnik back to the CO could be a better idea.

Maatta is not so good and he's almost always hurt. Big time regression since his rookie year. Good offer but maybe COL will want PIT to add a Sheary to close that deal. DAL trade for the 3rd overall
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vanderm</b></div><div>Duchene + Barrie + 4th + Grigorenko for 3rd OA + Johns + Lehtonen?
How much do you think that 3rd OA pick is worth? COL could get much more value separating those two players into different deals. Besides, that Lehtonen piece is basically another cost to COL, not a "gained asset" to them.
That Pageau deal is also a long ways off; OTT values him very highly.
Agree that LV probably takes Pickard. Best value trade chip they can snag off the COL roster in my view.</div></div>
I think you forgot that Valeri Nichushkin to COL in that deal. The opportunity for COL to select 2 defensive stud is a big deal for me. This will solve the "D" problem for the long term. Makar is a young general a la Erik Karlsson. Heiskanen best comparison is probably Roman Josi or Cam Fowler. So yes the 3rd overall pick is BIG in my opinion. COL must take dollars to realize that deal. It's Lethonen. He will be the backup for Varlamov, but it's just 1 year.
