No. That would be the kind of move that would have Nill chased out of Dallas.
You can ask for a prospect, but they won't be named Bourque, Stankoven or Harley. (Stars fans feel free to add to that list).
Tell ya what bud. Do an ACGM where the Habs move Slafs for Suter. See what happens, because that is exactly what you are asking here.

Yes. Yes it is. May wanna look at Bourque's numbers. Had a solid first year of pro hockey. Stars are doing well by him.
Draft position means nothing. Development is everything. Look no further than your head coach. HHOF and WAS NEVER DRAFTED.

Grush is a quality piece. I wouldn’t do it from the Dallas side tbh. I’m not saying Petry retained doesn’t have value, just that I would prefer we kept our d prospects unless getting a substantial upgrade. Grush (and White) is/are the type of player(s) cup winning teams have on their third pair. Vegas had better legs and d depth than we did. I’m not convinced Petry solves the issue

That's what's likely gonna happen. Trade him 50% retained at the deadline to a contender, and he's a sericable bottom 4 guy for a playoff team at $2.3M. Habs aren't ready to compete yet. That being said, I don't think DAL does this one.

Oh yeah I could see them doing this at the deadline, not immediately though IMO. I also don't think DAL does this one either

2023-24 DAL Opening Lineup
Like P said I don’t think Jani will be ready to go for the start of the season. I think they like Miro carrying Suter. I think they feel like Esa can carry a pair and will have him with Nils this year. This isn’t just my opinion it’s what multiple insiders have said the team wants. They’re also not gonna split up Benn-Wyatt-Dado. The only real question mark at forward is whether Stank or Bourque can force Marchment to the fourth line. To be honest I hope they’re patient with the young kids and give Marchment some time with Duchene. Duchene’s play driving and speed should be exactly what Marchment needs to increase his production

Nylander is looking for anywhere from $10,000,000 to $11,000,000 per long term. Pretty sure that Dallas is the last team that can afford him.

Zero reason for Dallas to do this. Adding another high dollar forward is a bad idea moving forward. Makes way more sense to stick with the prospects

I don't think Dallas could realistically run a roster with 6 players earning over 7,5 mil per year long-term, especially with multiple extension awaiting in not-so-distant future. If DAL goes after Nylander, Seguin has to go other way.
Not really stoked about the idea of trading Stankoven either.

Big Trade Thoughts
Even if Benn were to waive his NTC (he wouldn't), Dallas isn't trading Harley, Benn and a 1st for Hanafin.
-Harley was Dallas's 2nd best dman in the playoffs, and is expected to solidify his spot in the Top 4 and run the 2nd PP this season. He's Dallas's top D prospect who's expected to be s a full-time Top 4 guy at and QB the 2PP. Dallas is already weak on D, they're not moving out their second best guy and rising star. Hanafin's better right now, but from a long-term view, this would be a terrible move even if it was a 1-for-1.
Adding in Benn (who had more points than anyone on Calgary last season) AND a 1st? This is a terribad trade.
All the swapping 3rds and AHL-caliber player additions are fluff.

Genuinely not trying to sound condescending, but did you watch the Stars in the postseason? He was Dallas' 2nd best defenseman and it wasn't even close. He will either start the season next to Heiskanen or as the focal point on the Stars 2nd pair. Kid was lights out for Dallas, and looks like the 1st round pick he was drafted as.
Obviously not saying he's better than Hanifin, but the Stars need to add Hanifin to Harley and Heiskanen (lot's of H's) to fill out the top-4.

Benn won't waive for Chicago. I also think Harley + a 1st Round Pick is a bit extreme for a guy that's already stated he's not going to re-sign in Calgary. Not saying Hanifin will be cheap or anything, but this would keep Dallas in pretty much the same position. They really need to ADD to their blue line, not swap a top-4 defenseman for another top-4 defenseman.
If Dallas were to trade for Hanifin, I can't imagine Harley being a part of the return. More likely, they would like try to center the package around Marchment/Faksa & someone like Mavrik Bourque or Christian Kyrou (other pieces added too). They have a surplus of forwards that they'd need to move and can use prospects to boost the trade package a bit.

Harley at 21 just broke into the NHL with 9 points in 19 playoff games. What in that package is worth even close that. Lili lost his spot to Justin Holl after the deadline, Jarnkrok is a solid middle sixer but nothing more, and Nick Robertson can't stay healthy....

The cap his higher today than it was back then. In reality, he should make MORE than what Dickinson got. I'm not sure he does, but it would absolutely be reasonable to see him come in closer to $1.75M. I think Nill is able to get him down off of that number a little bit, but not by $750K.
Stars currently have 14 forwards. How does it work? You move one of the forwards or send one of them to the AHL. Either they get collected via waivers or we are able to bury up to $1.15M of their contract. That's where you get the rest of the cap space for Dellandrea.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>abennett1284</b></div><div>He still isn't getting 1.5. At best, he would get 1. He had 28 points. He's not in the same realm as Otter or Robertson.</div></div>
I'm not saying he's in the same realm, and there is far more to his game than point production. Jason Dickinson got a 2 year deal worth $1.5M per year after the 2018-2019 season where he put up 22 points. If he only put up 22 points, why did he get the contract he did? Because he was far more effective on the ice than his point total showed. He brought value in the defensive end of the ice, in the physical aspect of the game, and he was a Swiss Army Knife that was able to be used at even strength, on the PK, & anywhere up and down the lineup.
Dellandrea is a carbon copy of that kind of player, and he's arguably better offensively. If you only look at his point totals, you're completely missing 75% of his game and what he does for the Stars. He is absolutely worth a short bridge deal worth $1.5M per year.
