Ad for the goaltending you could argue CAR and CBJ are close with Korpisalo and Merzlinkins vs Reimer and Mark.
Nashville also developed Suter before he left for Minnesota.</div></div>
Very true, I forgot about Savard. The amount of shots he blocks is ridiculous haha!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boomer125</b></div><div>Yes those Defensive stats your so proud to spew have nothing to with the Nashville and Minnesota Defensive structure at all, it's all Fiala all by himself - both offensive and defensive stats can be skewed to favor players. Here's the main point Fiala is a middle 6 winger (Leafs have those in droves) if the Leafs are going to entertain moving Nylander it will be for a Defense man not a middle 6 winger. The trade makes no sense for the leafs</div></div>
Yes absolutely he has benifited from that, but the thing about non defensive players in strong defensive structure they don't last, Vatrano, Smith, Seguin in Boston, Nylander under Babcock, they still have to be good defensively to be feasible in a strong defensive system. Fiala has 54 in 64 how is that a 'Middle 6' winger??

Weber is a beast, I think i just go with younger players personally. Same goes with Suter. Think, 7 years ago, Suter, Weber, Jones, Josi, Ellis and Ekholm were all on the same team in Nashville....</div></div>
IMO Jones and Werenski are carrying the Columbus team, they don't have much up front, in net, or other then them on the back end. Where as Pietrangelo, has Faulk, Parayko, Dunn, Boumester(Before injury) as does Hamilton With Slavin, Pecese, Van Reisdyke, Fleury.
And it is mind Bogoling how well Nashville develops defenseman... Josi, Ellis, Jones, Weber, Ekholm, Fabbro! crazy

1) I don't want him, I'm not a minny fan.
But, Nylander is an offensive minded player that has a lot of offensive skill something which Minny could use, they have a wealth of well rounded guys and Nylander could complement this even though he is liable defensively, they have players in place to help him defensively while they give him an offensive boost.
as for Toronto wanting Fiala, he is well rounded, he is good in all areas of the ice, and would benefit Toronto a lot in terms of improving their team defense while their other offensive minded players similar to Nylander carry the offensive and boost Fiala's offensive numbers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boomer125</b></div><div>Just to show the difference in Fiala and Nylander and who a comparable to Fiala is:
Kevin Fiala 287 GP 158 pts = .55 PPG
Andreas Johnsson 125 GP 67 Pts = .53 PPG
William Nylander 307 GP 221 pts = .71 PPG
Now all I'm gonna hear is that Johnsson plays with this guy and Nylander plays with this guy and yup they do play with talented and skilled players but you need skill to play with talented of that calibre it's just a fact that elite players don't take a 4th liner and make them a top liner. It takes talent and skill to play with elite players</div></div>
what does 1M in cap space do for you?
Why don't you bring up some defensive stats to try and see how this works out? Or maybe open your eyes and see that Nylander is dog Sh** in his own zone and couldn't win a puck battle to save himself.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boomer125</b></div><div>You are wrong so very wrong, if the Leafs need cap room it's the 10 million in Johnsson/Kerfoot/Kapenen that gets moved, you don't sell Nylander at an insulting price of Fiala to gain 4 million.</div></div>
Insulting? Fiala has 5 less points this year then Nylander? can you even open your eyes? He has played his entire career with less than gifted offensive players and still puts up 40 - 60 pts consistently, while playing strong in 200ft of the ice. Why would they sell the only players on that team on good contracts? Is your plan for the Leafs to find a way to pay everyone 10M a season? LOL It is much more reasonable to gain 4M than your plan on Johnsson, Kappanen and Kerfoot.
Question. How do you plan on replacing these guys in your lineup? Are you planning on only having two lines of forwards? Cause even ELC are roughly 800,000 a piece, but I'm very confident your team would be so much worst then they are now if you do that, if you replace all three at 1M a piece then sure you save 7M but this team is even more garbage then it already is when you can swap one for one save 4M and the team doesn't miss a beat.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ajp_18</b></div><div>Welp... where to start.
Forwards aren’t terrible but probably a few missing names like Panarin.
Defence- Pietranglo is better then Jones Hamilton is likely better then Jones too but it could go either way there. McAvoy is better then Weber. As for the LHD Provorov is better then Suter and might be better then Werenski. Heck I’d almost take Quinn Highes over Suter.
Goalie- price isn’t the best goalie anymore. He’s solid but he isn’t the best in the league and likely not top 5 anymore. Lehner, Rask, Anderson(Freddy) and Bimmington are all better then Price and could easily be 5th on this list. That’s not even mentioning Hart who will be the best goalie in the NHL in less then 5 years.</div></div>
I don't agree with Pietrangelo and Hamilton being better than Jones, they're play IMO is inflated due to the incredible D corps around them.
As much as I love McAvoy I don't agree with putting him there, over Weber, players them selves say Weber is the hardest to play against in the league. As for Hughes, Provorov, Werenski and Sutter I think they are all very equal and the argument could be made for either of them to be there

Toronto needs cap relief it is as simple as that. Is Fiala as gifted offensively as Nylander? No! But does Fiala's all around defensive game make up for that? Yes! Nylander is garbage defensively. He has never won a puck battle in his life, he would turn away from going in the corner with a 6th grader. Fiala's value comes with his contract and and his all around play. This is not a bad trade for either team, as Minny has more all around good players, where as Toronto needs players with an all around game not simply offensive minded.
Not to mention that this shaves 4M off Toronto's cap, what are they going to do when Reilly needs a new contract or especially Andersson after this season? What the Toronto organization and fan base fails to realize is that there are a lot more factors in evaluating players other than skill.

Neither does playing 25 minutes if you are absolute **** in those minutes. If ceci is a better all around defenseman then risto then you know something is wrong. I could go out there and play 25 minutes on any team. I'm 18 so I guess I'm worth at least a 1st in a trade right? Not even close. Theres a very good reason why I'm not near an nhl roster. Trading for a guy who plays 25 minutes is setting the bar so low</div></div>
Have you watched Ristolainen play. Up until they got Dahlin when O'Reilly was there the only time Buffalo was worth watching was with him on the ice. He skates very well, and is a good first pass defenseman, he has had some blunders in his own zone, but overall he is strong and uses his size well. His defensive struggles have a lot to do with the fact that he has had such a bad team, and bad goaltending around him.

Kerfoot, kapanen, dermott, Robertson and marincin>jokiharju and risto.
If you break it down Kapanen is a better winger then risto so the leafs lose that part. The gap between joki and dermott is not Robertson. The leafs lose that by an even bigger margin. It's not even close. Buffalo would have to retain some on Risto and the leafs would have to take out Robertson to make it even remotely close</div></div>
Ristolainen has been averaging 25 minutes a night since he came into the league, consistently puts up 40+ points and is a big stong defenseman. Juolevi is a great piece being 20 years old and already a top 4 defenseman. Kappenen is Toronto's third RW and doesn't even put up as many points as Ristolainen does on defense. You are delusional to think this is at all true. Not to mention Risto is only 25 yrs old.

I've seen a few people signing Hamonic to these 5-6M dollar deals long term, I don't think you'd want that. Would turn out to be a rough contract in 2 -3 years. I think Niku has been pretty good there, definitely a top 4 guy, get a cheaper option, good PK guy to complement on the third pair and I think they'd be better off.

I just think that Eakin and Thornton could occupy the same position if you'd rather Thornton, then it wouldn't be necessary for Eakin. There would be cheaper options for 4C that would complement their PK on a better note. Say Steven Lorentz or Morgan Geeckie could make a push for their lineup.
