If the Ducks Move On from Zegras
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>The fact that you see three firsts here, and the fact that you think all firsts are the same, are emblematic of the myopia that afflicts many Habs fans.</div></div>
I never said all firsts are the same, but a low 1st is still a 1st and 3 first round prospects are still 3x1st.
Don't blame me for what others said.

Nobody but Gretzky is worth 3x1st+. Certainly not Zegras.

Necas
Makes a lot of sense (MTL has only Slaf in the whole organization as a tall top 6 winger), but it will cost more for a RFA 30 goals scorer.
A top 10 protected 2025 MTL 1st would be a good start.

Necas and Zegras with comps

Zegras: None of that. Still not fully healthy recovering from a broken ankle and playing point per game hockey as a.. center.
Is Zegras Eichel? Not even a little bit. But you’re comp to eichel is a bad one. It’s really as straightforward as why the heck ANA would trade their most offensively gifted forward for a bunch of mid value picks that are unlikely to land a single top 6 player. His comment may have been exaggerated, but this offer is terrible</div></div>
Zegras is a defensive blackhole and everybody not in denial knows it. This is why Verbeek didnt signed him long term but on a capfriendly deal to make him a trade bait.

Ken Hughes magic once again to make sure he doesn't lose precious NCAA prospects to free agency.
Montreal doesn't have a big top 9 winger in the pipeline, making Xhekaj and now Tuch overly important.

Obviously 14th overall isnt scrap and makes it hard to take you seriously.
You just sound like all the Buffalo fans claimimg Eichel was worth 3x1st+, and Eichel was worth more than Zegras. At least he a center ;)

Deny shopping him doesnt means he wouldnt consider an offer LOL.

Thanks for the suggestions, of course there can be more than one comp.
The result of using those would be pretty close though. Not gonna argue about adding /taking out a low pick here and there.

One was drafted 5h and the other one 14th
One is a RD, the most coveted position, and the other one is a winger, the less coveted position.
One is signed and the other ... well....

Look what Wennberg was traded for before calling Dvo a capdump.
Also, MTL has more than enough capspace, so motivation to shred salary is none.

Would MTL prefer Dach at wing or at center
On a contending team, he would be 1RW and Caufield would be sheltered on a 2nd line against easier opposition. Dach is just a better fit on a 1st line: a monster along the boards, good distributor and reliable defensively. Also Suzuki loves to play with another center, mainly to do permutation plays... and cheat on faceoffs.
In general the whole organisation just craves big top 9 wingers (only Slaf and... Anderson, no prospect).
But for now MTL doesnt have enough center depth (at least until the draft) making him the only decent 2C option. He did improve on faceoffs last season, so that can work until they find better.
