Montreal Canadiens Season Discussion Thread
Well that game was extremely boring. Even when the habs scored, I just felt bad. I think it had something to do with Drouin & Gallagher being out of the lineup, Chiarot being in the lineup, the terrible Flames commentators, Calgary’s ugly jerseys, and way too much red in the Calgary arena. Now time to try to fall asleep with just an overall feeling of disgust.

Should we be excited for Caufield or feel bad for Lindgren?

Who Are You Protecting For The Expansion Draft
So the ones that are obvious:
Drouin
Kotkaniemi
Anderson
Gallagher
Toffoli
Lehkonen
Petry
Price
For the other forward spot, it’d ideally be an extended Danault. If we can’t re-sign Danault by then, then I’d protect Evan’s and re-sign Perry to meet the exposure requirements. (And absolute worst case scenario and we can’t re-sign any good UFAs, Frolík at league minimum would work too)
Edmundson would likely be the number two choice for protection. The third slot is a toss up for me between Kulak and Fleury, but I’ll say Fleury, with the tie going to the cheaper and younger player. However, I have a feeling management will be considering Chiarot/Weber instead.
Although it wouldn’t be the end of the world if the habs protected Weber/Chiarot, because losing Fleury would be much better than losing Allen.

Laval Rocket Game #27
Lines for today:

41-46-14
27-12-22
23-18-11
4-28
6-8
32-29
3 in nets
The first 5 minutes it was all Belleville, then Laval took over the game. It was 5 to 1 with 10 minutes left in the game, when Yannick Veilleux (38), a player I like, took a really dumb penalty and that woke up Belleville, as they scored 3 goals to make it a close game of 5 to 4 for Laval.
McNiven who has played lights out all season, looked shaky in nets, not that any of the goals were his fault or weak ones, just his positioning and crease mouvement. Maybe it was the 11 day off with no games, he should be better next game.
This was Tobie Bisson's first game up on the 1st pair and he looked good with his first goal of the season and an assist. He is also +14 on the season, which ties him with Leskinen. Speaking of Leskinen, I do not understand why Montreal did not give him more games, he is so smart with the puck. Even his shots from the point, he will often take something off, to make sure the puck hits the net. He reminds me of a younger Andrei Markov with his vision and passes.
Up front, Belzile had 3 assists and Vejdemo had 2 goals, but it is not as if they where all over the ice, Belzile played a very smart game and fed Vejdemo on both his goals. Both where back from long injuries, along with Mysak and Ylonen. The last one was average but I did notice he was rolling off his checks. I think he got the message.
Poehling, Blandisi and Teasdale remind me of Tatar, Danault and Gallagher. 5 on 5, they are all over the ice and work so well together. Poehling had a very smart game at both ends of the ice and scored a nice goal, post and in. Poehling played both LW and C. His speed is really good.
Best 3 players:
Belzile
Poehling
Bisson

Sad day today. Mete and Kotkaniemi were one of the better memories I have when watching videos with the Canadiens. Although he wasn't the greatest on-ice player, Mete and Kotkaniemi's "Mint" talk will forever be remembered. Best of luck in Ottawa Mete!

I wouldn’t say likely, but it’s definitely possible. The habs have 2 contract slots (and 3 if Mete is claimed) in addition to $2.5 million in LTIR room that isn’t going to be used anyways. So I think Bergevin is in wait and see mode now.

Laval Rockets Game #25
Some new guy wearing #44 played tonight, not sure his name. I think it is Caufield or something. Anyways he only had two goals and 1 assist in his first professional game. All kidding aside, he gets the puck off his stick so fast and he was much better defensively than I expected. It was back and forth. Xavier Ouellet did not play a whole lot, not sure if he was hurt or something. He did play well on the PK and also got a goal when Caufield stick handled in front of the net and the puck flipped over his stick and Ouellet that was pinching scored a decent goal. I am not a big fan of Lindgren and would have no problem if he is let go at seasons end.

Nobody really had a super amazing game or really stood out, but I will list them anyways

Laval Rockets Game #24
All good things come to an end. Going 12 games undefeated is an incredible accomplishment. McNiven kept them in the game with key saves, too bad he let in an ugly goal from the corner with just over 3 minutes left in the game, then Stockton got an empty net goal. A new D-man played his first game, Jacob LeGuerrier. His last name in English means The Warrior. He did not do anything spectacular but he did not look bad either. I am critical of Xavier Ouellett but I thought he played his best game of the season. Tons of penalties called against Laval, so it was hard for them to get a flow going. Laurent Dauphin, a seasoned veteran does not do a whole lot, he floats up and down the ice.
