Montreal Canadiens signed Brett Kulak (3 Years / $1,850,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>Hell of a deal. His projected contract was 4 Years @4.5 Million. Can slot into the top 4 and is perfect for the 3rd line pairing</div></div>
1.85M is less than I thought he'd make but 4.5M??????

Make me an offer for your cap dumps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>Lucic and Puljujarvi for an LTIR if you want otherwise a mid-late round pick. I think Puljujarvi still has a lot of potential I am just adamant that not in Edmonton</div></div>
There is no way I see Ottawa taking Lucic. Some bad contracts are easier to move than others. That one is not easy to move.
Not only because of his NTC, but also because he's a winger, not exactly a position that's hard to find talent in. It's not like he plays defense where there never seems to be enough players.
He also has a 6 million cap hit for 4 years and has virtually no production. 6 goals in 79 games. That's really hard to move.

Let's say it's Marner that Leafs don't want to match an offer sheet. Then the idea this summer would be to sign Johnsson and Kapanen to more expensive /longer deals.....if you want them.
Get a veteran Dman if only short term that costs more money than Holl, Fill out the roster to 23 players. That takes up most of the this 2019/20 cap,,,,and that's without signing Panarin.
Then you go into 2020/21 with Muzzin/Marleau and their 10 m gone and now the four additional picks start.

Free agency is not where you get good players at a discount price. When a team has to overpay, it's only because that player has enough teams interested to start driving up the price. Not because they just feel like it.
Frankly 9M isn't all that bad for him in free agency. If he signs long term, that's actually market value. As a Habs fan, I'd pay 9M to get him on my team any day of the week.

5 ways to get cap creative
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>leemos27</b></div><div>I'm really sorry this post has upset you to such a large degree. I was under the impression that teams must be cap compliant by the last day of training camp before they are able to place someone on LTIR. I could be wrong. Again so sorry that I have caused you such discomfort</div></div>
Seems like the general public only found out about this in Aug. 2017 when Brown re-signed. Up to that point, everyone was trying to figure out how the leafs would be able to sign Connor Brown without trading someone else. Then the Leafs just signed him near the end of the summer and the info came out that teams can place a player on LTIR before the start of the season... So with that in mind, the Leafs won't be trading Horton.
In some cases, a team is willing to trade for a guy on LTIR is insurance is also paying his salary...in Horton's case, he didn't qualify for insurance, so the Leafs are footing his entire salary...something that teams looking to hit the cap floor likely aren't excited to take on.
I can definitely see Brown being traded simply to free up some cap space...either for a pick or for a bottom 4 d-man

Well from the lips of dubas they are not moving anyone. I don’t think they are going to be handing out such huge contracts either. Ozhiganov will be much more cost effective than giardi

Players like Rosen Borgman and possibly ozhiganov will take their QO’s. Thinking mathews is under 12 and marner under 10.

Can this work w MTL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>Imo Zaitsev is better than Alzner. Also he plays from the right side. I believe there'd be at least few teams that would take Zaitsev on that contract of his.
Alzner currently is just an overpaid AHL player.</div></div>
it doesnt matter if he's better he signed a worse deal then declined to Alzner's level .
we always knew we were overpaying Alzner but TML thought when Zaitsev had an amazing rookie year that meant big things and signed him to a **** 7 year 4.5 m dollar year and since Zaitsev hasnt produced 1/3rd of his rookie season production and is steadily working himself out of the NHL .
i cannot believe anyone who's seen Zaitsev play and looked at his deal is questioning this . . .

Most are pretty reasonable. There are a few crazies but every fan base has them.
On the flip side i have seen your offers and you have a habit of offering nothing for something. Like Puju, Kassian, Montoya, Safin for Nylander. If you think that is fair value you have nothing to complain about. If Leafs fans gave you a hard time over that...well you earned it. A bust, a 4th liner that they have tried to trade and nobody wants, a 3rd string goalie who should be in the KHL, and a mediocre prospect for a first line talent does not cut it. Not to mention it does not give them the RhD man they are looking for.

I think it looks good on Dubas as a young rookie GM to handle things as he has. He has been patient calm and calculated. Doing something rash with long term consequences would make him a dumbass.

Forget about McJesus, Jesus Christ himself wouldn’t put up as many goals.
There is no realistic trade from the sabres. Matthews even more so than mcdavid is untouchable. We are winning oilers are not.

Makes total sense for Toronto, but I do not know why Minny would trade away Staal. He is a steal at 3.5 mil.
